    Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

    Pros:

    ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

    ·        Close to interstate for easy access

    ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

    ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

    ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

    Cons:

    ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

    ·        No trees for shade or privacy

    ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

    ·        Many campers are long-term

    ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

McGinnis Lake Modern Campground — Holly Recreation Area

The State of Michigan has dropped the ball…

No sewer or dumps is available at this campground (April 2022). You will have to dump elsewhere. If there was a memo I missed it. Made reservation in winter 2021. Had great Verizon and ok TMobile service. Site itself was easy to level and adequate for our big rig. It was one of 4 50 amp sites in the park. Nice large grassy site and the park was not very full.

    Frankenmuth Jellystone Park

Fun RV park and very close to downtown

Our site was averaged out to $82.71 a night with the weekly rate discount.

We were in Site# 306 (a deluxe plus RV site - be aware that some of these are back-ins and not clearly labeled on the site map - we had to change sites to a pull-thru). We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with zero trees. We weren’t able to sit outside because of the direct sun until after 8:30pm.
This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The deluxe plus lot comes without a concrete patio but with a picnic table and fire ring. They do sell firewood and will deliver to your site.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are quite a few channel options.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent pedal bikes. They do not provide golf cart rentals.

They do have a heated indoor and heated outdoor Swimming pool and one hot tub.

There is a Playground. They also offer Gaga ball, basketball sport court, and volleyball courts. There is a Game room for kids. They have a Putt putt course and Jumping pad.

They have a great general store. There is a separate Activity Center for kids.
There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like wagon rides, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, etc. Activities are scheduled all day from 9am to 8pm.

There is a snack bar on site from 4pm-9:30pm where you can get hot dogs, brats, pretzels, nachos, ice cream, etc.

The streets are mostly paved and good for riding bikes.

This is an RV park with cabins to rent also. Tent camping is also allowed.

They have two shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine in the arcade room. There are approximately 4washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.75 to wash and $0.75 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Flies were an issue and bug spray was needed.

There were no trails to hike off of the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are Frankenmuth FunShips (chocolate & wine tasting), the Golden Ticket Trolley, the Bavarian Belle (popcorn & sodas) River Place Shops, wineries, and Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland store. This RV park is less than a mile to downtown/River Place Shops where there is tons of shopping.

    Holiday RV Campground

    Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

    Pine Ridge RV Campground

Lots of tall pines and hardwoods providing good cover

Nice pull through sites, some are tight, but none are impossible. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. There’s private land on either side and a dirt bike track that the neighbor owns on the north end, so if you’ve got a light afternoon napper, stay away from that end. Clean facilities, close to attractions and highway. Overall a good spot to stay

    Groveland Oaks County Park

    Kid friendly

This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds. Full hookup area is away from most of the weekend traffic with a short cut to get to where all the kids stuff is located. I think it is a little pricier than most monthly rentals in southeast Michigan. We chose for the convenient location for spending the weekends. Our campsite was a little difficult to get into because it was on a curve and there was a seasonal camper with a Class A right across from our site which didn’t allow for a lot of space to maneuver our 26 ft travel trailer. It was, however, fairly close to the park and restrooms.

    Oaks Campgrounds

    Nice for the Night

Friendly staff. Camp store in office. Pull through full hook up site. Seemed to be more of a permanent campground but everyone was friendly. The campground hosted activities such as a potluck and dj dance party at the pavilion.

Guide to Holly

Holly, Michigan camping areas feature oak and maple woodlands surrounding several glacial lakes at elevations around 1,000 feet. The area receives approximately 32 inches of rainfall annually, creating moderately humid summers and cold winters with reliable snowfall. Most campgrounds in the Holly region remain open from April through October, with select sites at Holly Recreation Area available year-round.

What to do

Hiking trails: Seven Lakes State Park offers extensive hiking paths around multiple lakes. "Seven Lakes has a great hike that takes you all around the lake, as well as smaller loops. You can find challenging hikes or an easy path. Sunrise is stunning here. Do make sure you bring plenty of bug netting/spray/gear if you come in the summer, the bugs are brutal," notes Maggie M. from Seven Lakes State Park Campground.

Swimming beaches: Camp Dearborn features multiple swimming areas for families. "Lots of beach area and water to fish or swim. Activities almost every night. Paddle boats, mini golf, golf, and more. Pull behind sites were easy to access. Staff are very helpful and responsive," writes Ryan S. who camped at the park in July 2025.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple lakes throughout Holly Recreation Area provide good fishing spots. "We love this place and so do my 3 dogs. We got a secluded campsite, and it's gorgeous- tucked into the woods and was easy to back into. You're far enough from people to where you don't really see a lot of them or hear them that often besides people walking by," says Ashley F. about Holly State Recreation Area.

What campers like

Private campsites: Many campers appreciate the wooded sites at McGinnis Lake Campground. "Sites were spacious, we loved the national forest," mentions David S. who visited Holly Recreation Area in September 2019. The Trillium loop offers particularly secluded sites.

Clean facilities: Haas Lake Park RV Campground maintains excellent bathrooms and grounds. "The entire campground was well kept; the bathrooms, the grounds, and the laundry facility were all in excellent condition. The fire rings are double insulated with sand, which made for a safer experience. And the picnic tables are in good shape," reports John C. about Haas Lake Park RV Campground.

Family activities: Groveland Oaks County Park offers numerous amenities for children. "We joined a group site and meet up every major holiday at Groveland. We feel like we went up North without the driving four hours. The park is well laid out and includes a ton of fun activities for young and old," writes Mike N.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Holly area campgrounds can experience significant rainfall. At Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA, "After only a few hours of moderate rainfall, we arrived to a completely flooded park... it was completely underwater. When we told him the obvious, he said, 'they all are'," recalls Kara W.

Site selection: Carefully review campground maps when booking. "Some camp sites are squished up to others. Other camp sites have plenty of room. So when you are stuck in a spot that is tight it kind of ruins the experience. Weird thing is, the bigger sites are the same price," advises Kristin T. about Pine Ridge RV Campground.

Seasonal availability: Most rv campgrounds in Holly, Michigan operate seasonally. Haas Lake Park's season runs "Mar 29 - Nov 5," while Pine Ridge RV Campground operates from "May 1 - Oct 31." Always call ahead to verify current operating dates.

Tips for camping with families

Choose a family-focused campground: Groveland Oaks County Park specializes in family camping. "Great for families with young children, lots of activities for children," notes Jack R. who camped there in June 2025.

Visit during Halloween: Camp Dearborn hosts special Halloween events. "The sites were very nice, and so were the bathrooms. Lots of fun activities for the kids for halloween. Lots of rules to follow, but the place has a nice atmosphere overall," reports Mary W. about Camp Dearborn.

Plan for various weather conditions: Pack appropriate gear for changing conditions. "The campsite has a private lake that's good for swimming and fishing. The sites are decently sized with most being easily gotten into with an RV. Plenty of hiking/biking trails easily accessed from the campground," shares Holly S. about Seven Lakes State Park.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling concerns: Many Holly, Michigan RV campgrounds require leveling equipment. "Very pretty pull through sites, some are tight, but none are impossible. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. There's private land on either side and a dirt bike track that the neighbor owns on the north end, so if you've got a light afternoon napper, stay away from that end," suggests Mitchell C. about Pine Ridge RV Campground.

Water and electrical hookups: Camp Dearborn offers full-service RV sites. "Pull behind sites were easy to access. Staff are very helpful and responsive. There is a dump station on site," notes Ryan S., highlighting important amenities for RV campers.

Campsite spacing: Some rv campgrounds near Holly provide more space between sites than others. "Large sites big campground. Rained the whole weekend so couldn't enjoy it like we wanted to. Will go back," shares Dan H. about Haas Lake Park RV Campground, indicating the spacious nature of the sites despite weather challenges.
