Best RV Parks & Resorts near Escanaba, MI

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks near Escanaba cater specifically to motorhome travelers with full hookup capabilities. Island Resort and Casino RV Park provides water/electric sites with paved pull-through spaces large enough for big rigs with towed vehicles. BayRidge RV Park offers full hookup RV sites with gravel pads, though some sites require significant leveling. Whitefish Hill RV Park features long 80-90 foot level pull-through sites with full hookup capability. Indian Lake RV Resort and Campground includes 56 sites with both 50-amp and 30-amp electrical service options. "Have plenty of levelling equipment available! Some are very level, some are not level at all. We were in spot 32 and 4" laterally and 19" longitudinally out of level to start with - at my max hitch jack limit and still 3" nose low."

Seasonal availability varies considerably across the region's RV facilities. Most parks operate from May through October, with Island Resort closing November 30 and Whitefish Hill operating April 30 to October 31. Within 30 miles of Escanaba, RV amenities include sanitary dump stations, showers, and laundry facilities at select locations. Cell service proves inconsistent throughout the area, with one visitor noting, "No Verizon service. Only T-Mobile and AT&T. WIFI only works around the office/facilities building." Pet-friendly policies are standard at most parks, though some charge additional fees. Many parks provide picnic tables and fire rings at individual sites, while others offer convenience stores and shuttle service to nearby attractions. Advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer and fall color seasons.

Island Resort and Casino RV Park

Basic RV park with free shuttle to the casino

We were in Site# 14. We had electric/water with a paved pull-through. We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level but the wheels of our motor home were off of the ground.

Check-in is at the hotel. The RV park is not visible from the hotel (it’s back in the woods). There is a phone at the shower house that can be used to request a free shuttle to the casino.

Our site was not shaded with limited trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a picnic table and fire ring.

There was not any WiFi (we used our Starlink). They do not offer Cable TV.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

They do have an indoor Swimming pool at the hotel with a sauna and steam shower.

There is not a Playground. There are not any additional play areas like Bocce ball, shuffleboard, basketball sport court, horseshoe, or volleyball courts.

They have a general store in the parking lot of the casino where you can also get gas.

There are restaurants on site in the hotel as well as a spa. The closest big town with stores is Escanaba (about 20 minutes away).

This is solely an RV park. They do not have any cabins to rent or any tent areas.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual showers (toilets & sinks are on opposite side of shower house).

The laundry facility is located at the BP gas station (located in the parking lot of the casino/hotel). It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. It is approximately $2 to wash and $2 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs.

Bugs did not seem to be an issue.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are to visit the Sandy Point Lighthouse or Ludington Park in Escanaba.

The casino is smoke-free. It states that the tables are open from 10am to 2am. Not all tables are available though (for instance, roulette wasn’t always available and if they did open up the one roulette table, it wasn’t until 6 or 7pm). The slot machine options are abundant.

    Little Bay De Noc

    AbsolutelyBeautiful

We were by ourselves on the first loop site #6. Short walk to sandy beach. (Less than 25-30Yds). Deer in camp when we arrived. $21/night. 1/2 price for those with senior National park pass. Nice fire ring with grill and picnic table. About 1/3 of the 38 sites are first come, rest reservable. Only 2 other campers in area end of September. Could fish, swim or do boating from the site. Need gen if you want electric. No dump station but private campgrounds close and perhaps would let you dump for a fee. Several trails. Lighthouse at end of peninsula about 11 mi away. Fairly level sites. Tent pads with pine needles. Big rigs likely would fit but very narrow and tight squeeze. Length and slides not an issue as sites are large.

    Dovetail Acres Campground

    Relatively New RV Campground

Convenient to Sister Bay in Door County, Wisconsin. Off of WI Hwy 57. Large open field. 27 pull-through RV sites are equipped to handle the biggest RV’s by providing 34′ x 75′ sites. 33 back-in RV sites. 10 walk in tent sites. Pets welcome - $5/day pet fee. New restrooms & showers. No cell service, but very good free WiFi service. Clean campsites, well maintained. No privacy between sites. Gravel driveways. Picnic table. Fire ring. Convenience store & gas station on site - Dovetail Trading Company & Citgo gas station. Registration in store. Accepts reservations. Campground was still open on Oct 23, 2021, even though it's season ended on Oct 18. This is a good campground for RVs. I camped here when I couldn't find another campground that had available sites. I thought it was overpriced for camping in my camper van with no hookups needed, but it was okay in a pinch.

    Baileys Woods Campground

    Peaceful and quiet

General: Baileys Woods lives up to its name – it is a very wooded campground, which provides reasonable separation between the sites. I was surprised that it was not full during the week in June, which made it even more quiet and peaceful. When we reserved, we paid for one night and then paid the balance just prior to arrival. We were greeted warmly and given a map of the campground. There is a 5mph speed limit posted throughout and many speed bumps to enforce this. My only concern is that they were not marked and blended into the road and while this should not be a concern if you are driving the 5mph, they did occasionally trip me up while walking (especially at night) or if you are crazy like me, running laps around the campground.

Site Quality/Facilities: Gravel pads that are all level; most are back-in, but a few are pull-through. You will hear road noise at some of the sites on the perimeter, but it was minimal. Our site in the interior was very quiet with the sound of birds chirping the only noise we could hear. There is a small picnic table and fire ring at each site. Some sites are electric only; some water and electric and some are tent sites.

Bathhouse: There are two bathhouses at either end of the campground, and both were very clean. Both have showers and one has laundry. Nice hot water and hubby reported the water pressure was good in his, but I found it a little wimpy in the women’s shower. There are also two porta-potties, one for women and men; they are cleaned weekly on Monday and were clean when we were there (at least the women’s was).

Activities/Amenities: There is a nice playground. Showers and laundry available. Firewood and ice are available on the honor system – you pay when you leave but since we were there for a nearby family reunion, we did not use either of these amenities. As for activities, not much to do at the campground but there is so much to do in Door County from hiking and kayaking to wine tasting and shopping.

When we lived in the area, we used to take day trips here in all seasons and now we enjoy visiting all our favorite haunts when we are back in the area on a road trip. Baileys Woods (on the quiet side of Door) was a nice base place to do this from. The only things keeping this from a five-star review are the unmarked speed bumps and the incredibly thin toilet paper which basically disintegrated in my hands (we are used to this in state and national parks but hoped for better quality in a private campground).

    O. B. Fuller Campground

On the shores of Lake Michigan

You could drive by and miss this little gem. Beautifully kept up county park with clean shower house. Pet friendly, they even have a hitching post for your pet while visiting the bathrooms. On site hosts.

All sites are within a short walking distance of the beach and some are right on the beach. Site L1 had a good mix of beach and woods. Near the beach is a small playground for the kids.

    Manistique Lakeshore Campground

    Amazing small campground

There are a limited number of sites here, 6 for tents and the rest for RVs. We have a travel trailer and this was the easiest set up we’ve ever had. Each site has a long, paved, level pad for your camper and vehicle. The electric and water post is very nice organized. Sewer available at all electric sites. Tons of big rigs here bc the spots are spaced appropriately and easy to maneuver. Bathrooms and showers are the nicest I e ever used at a campground. But the jewel are the lake front campsites. We literally walked out our door to the sand beach. Our fire pit was located so we could chill and watch the lake while the kids jumped the waves in the long shallow sandy areas. Dunes are also behind some sites, which is fun for the kids to roll around in. Super dog friendly. Close to grocery and restaurants if needed, but still feel isolated despite the proximity to the highway. The sounds of the waves on the lake put us to sleep at night. A perfect camping paradise. The only downside is that this campground is always booked, so it’s hard to get a reservation. We booked in December for the following June, and all lakefront spots were booked already. A last minute cancellation meant we could snag the lakefront spot, and it’s amazing. Don’t hesitate if there’s a spot open, just book it!

    Fayette State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

Isolated, quiet park on Lake Michigan. Nicely spaced and shaded sites. Some level, many not so great. Big fire rings. Picnic tables. Electric hookups only. Bath and shower facilities very new and nice. Spotty phone service. Historic ghost town within walking distance of the campground. Many buildings open during the day with displays of what life was like when the town was occupied. Great history lesson and very interesting. Although town buildings were locked at night, you could still walk the streets. Spooky but fun! Sunsets on the lake are spectacular. Many hiking trails around the park. Not strenuous and fairly short. However, trails could use better markings.

    O. B. Fuller Campground

    Quiet, clean

Nice little county campground on lake Michigan. Sandy Beach. Clean bathrooms and showers, and a small laundry facility. Electric and water on each site. Dump station is available for registered campers. Sites are large, not crowded. Mixture of short term campers and long term locals. On site host, not a party spot.

Guide to Escanaba

Dispersed camping opportunities exist throughout the Hiawatha National Forest near Escanaba, Michigan. Sites along Peninsula Point Lighthouse Access Road offer unobstructed views of Lake Michigan with direct water access. The region experiences average summer temperatures between 65-80°F with higher humidity near the water, requiring proper bug protection during peak summer months.

What to do

Visit Peninsula Point Lighthouse: Located at the southern tip of the Stonington Peninsula, this historic site provides both camping and exploration opportunities. "We stayed one night at the first dispersed site and had a great view of the lake from the site. The sunset was incredible," reports a camper at Peninsula Point Lighthouse Access Road - Dispersed.

Monarch butterfly migration: The peninsula is known for seasonal monarch butterfly migrations. "Would love to be there for the monarch migration," notes one camper, making this a unique wildlife viewing opportunity during late summer months.

Explore local attractions: Many visitors use Escanaba as a home base for UP adventures. "We did go to Oswald's Bear Ranch, Kitch-iti-kipi, and a few other places in one day," mentions a reviewer from BayRidge RV Park, demonstrating how the area serves as a central location for day trips.

What campers like

Casino convenience: Several rv campgrounds near Escanaba offer direct casino access. "There is a phone at the shower house that can be used to request a free shuttle to the casino," notes a camper at Island Resort and Casino RV Park. Another camper at Kewadin Casino states, "It's $15/night to stay in one of these sites. If you don't need any hookups you can stay anywhere in the center of the lot without even going in to register."

Waterfront views: Many campsites provide direct lake access. A visitor to Indian Lake RV Resort and Campground shared: "Every site is close to the lake. We were there for 8 days and would stay there again."

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness is consistently mentioned. "Cleanest campsite bathroom I've been in. Our site looked right over Indian Lake," reports one camper. Another noted the "very clean facilities" at BayRidge RV Park.

What you should know

Limited dispersed camping spots: The most scenic dispersed camping areas fill quickly. "This area is gorgeous, it's surrounded by lake superior... I would have rated 5 stars if there were more sites available, but if you manage to snag one of the permitted ones, lucky you!" explains a camper about Peninsula Point.

Cell service varies widely: Coverage depends on carrier and location. A camper at BayRidge RV Park mentioned: "There was zero cell service on Verizon and although free WiFi was offered, it was weak and we often had to reconnect."

Seasonal operations: Most rv campgrounds in Escanaba, Michigan close during winter months. Kewadin Casino Manistique operates "Apr 15 to Oct 15," while Whitefish Hill RV Park is open "Apr 30 - Oct 31."

Tips for camping with families

Check for bathroom proximity: Some campgrounds have limited facilities. At BayRidge RV Park, a camper noted: "Our site was located near the top of the loop, so it was a bit of a hike to the bath/shower house, but not unreasonable."

Consider site leveling needs: Uneven sites can create challenges. "Have plenty of levelling equipment available! Some are very level, some are not level at all," advises one RVer.

Look for activities: While many Escanaba area campgrounds don't offer extensive on-site recreation, nearby attractions provide family entertainment. At Hy-Land Court RV Park, a camper noted it's "not so far from Washington Island ferry. 3 min driving distance to the lake where you can enjoy beautiful sunsets."

Tips from RVers

Verify site dimensions: Larger rigs require careful planning. At Island Resort and Casino RV Park, a camper shared: "We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep."

Check utility locations: Some sites have inconvenient hookup placement. A visitor noted: "Sites are all full hookup, and no tents are allowed. Most sites are back-in but there are about a half dozen pull-through sites."

Prepare for various surface types: Different parks offer different pad materials. "Most sites are gravel and there is a varying amount of site size and privacy between sites," reports one RVer about BayRidge RV Park, providing practical insight for setup planning.
