Best Campgrounds near Brookville, KS

Kanopolis State Park and surrounding areas near Brookville, Kansas provide multiple camping options within the Smoky Hills region. Established campgrounds include Eagle Point, Sandyshore, and Rockin' K Horse campgrounds at Kanopolis State Park, offering accommodations for tents, RVs, and cabins. The Venango-Kanapolis campgrounds, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, provide additional developed camping along the reservoir shoreline. Most sites feature standard amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, and access to toilets, with many offering electric hookups.

Camping facilities remain available year-round at some locations, though services may be limited during winter months. The region experiences hot summers and cold winters with periodic strong winds coming across the open reservoir. Reservations are recommended during peak season, particularly for waterfront sites which fill quickly on weekends. Many campgrounds offer varying levels of hookups from primitive tent sites to full RV connections with 50-amp service. Cell coverage is generally reliable throughout the area, with Verizon and AT&T providing consistent service. A camper noted, "We stayed at Eagle Point as we do not have horses but this campground had the shower house that we used which was very clean and the water was actually hot! Very well maintained!"

Waterfront camping represents a significant draw for visitors to the Kanopolis Reservoir area. Several campgrounds provide direct lake access with some primitive sites positioned along the shoreline. The reservoir supports fishing, boating, and swimming activities, though water levels may fluctuate seasonally. Multiple hiking trails wind through limestone formations and along bluffs, offering scenic views and occasional cave features. A recent review highlighted, "Trails with cliffs, creeks and caves, campsites with incredible views and Bald Eagles soaring overhead." Campers should be prepared for variable conditions including potential wind exposure, particularly at shoreline sites. The less developed Sandy Shore area provides more primitive camping options with fewer amenities but greater privacy and direct water access compared to the larger, more developed campgrounds.

Buffalo Grass — Wilson State Park

A beautiful, secluded place in North Central Kansas

Are you traveling i-70 in the middle of Kansas and just wanted a place to take a break and enjoy nature and a lake? Perhaps an overnight stay? Then this is a great place to come to relax and unwind. The campsites were spread apart nicely so not crowded with the neighbors.

    Salina Campground

Great stop over on our way west

Very friendly check in. Full hook ups. Clean laundry room. Playground for the little ones. Right off the highway so the noise is expected but it’s a good price for a safe stop.

    COE Wilson Lake Sylvan Park

    A nice pleasant place.

A nice quiet place. No highway noise. No boat noise, as the lake is on the other side of the dam from the campground. The sites are roomy and have concrete picnic tables. There are flush toilets, sinks, and showers.

Indian Grass — Wilson State Park

Middle of the week and we’re looking over the lake

It was a long day driving today and hot outside. We needed a camping spot with electric hookups to run the AC and that’s what we got!!

This campground is very clean and the sites are nicely spaced. The view of the lake was little short of spectacular.
