Campgrounds near New Carlisle, Indiana range from established RV parks to lakeside camping areas within an hour's drive. Mini Mountain Campground, located directly in New Carlisle, provides electric hookups, sewer connections, and tent sites from April through November. The region includes several notable camping destinations such as Potato Creek State Park Campground in North Liberty and Indiana Dunes National Park, offering opportunities for tent camping, RV sites, cabins, and limited glamping options. Most established campgrounds in the area provide drinking water, electric hookups, and fire rings, with many featuring access to lakes or beach areas.

Many campgrounds in the region require advance reservations, particularly during summer months when beach access points become crowded. The Indiana Dunes area experiences high visitor traffic, especially on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A camper noted, "Unlike the craziness of other Indiana state parks I have visited, this campground although nearly full was relatively calm and quiet." Weather conditions vary seasonally, with campgrounds like Thousand Trails Bear Cave operating only from May through October. Sites near Lake Michigan provide beach access but may have seasonal restrictions or amenity fees. Several campgrounds in the area offer full hookups for RVs while others maintain more primitive tent camping areas with shared facilities.

Campers frequently highlight the proximity to Lake Michigan as a significant draw for the region's campgrounds. Several developed campgrounds within an hour of New Carlisle provide direct or nearby access to beaches and water activities. Visitors to Indiana Dunes National Park mention the convenience of shuttle services between campgrounds and beach areas during peak season. One reviewer wrote, "We visited Indiana Dunes State Park, no overnight stay - the most beautiful state park in Indiana in my opinion." Noise levels vary considerably across camping areas, with some sites affected by nearby highways and train tracks. Potato Creek State Park receives positive reviews for its spacious sites, clean facilities, and recreational opportunities including swimming in Worster Lake, mountain biking trails, and wildlife viewing. Campgrounds closer to Michigan City provide convenient access to Chicago via the South Shore commuter train line.

Hildebrandt Campground — Warren Dunes State Park

      Sand Dunes

We were here over Memorial Day weekend and it was crowded but still nice. Spacing between sites was nice, lots of trees for privacy.

Camp store was nice and stocked with plenty even on a busy weekend.

Dune hikes are amazing and access to Lake Michigan if you climb over the dunes.

      Shamrock Park

      Simple camping

Stayed here over the 4th of July. Very small campground, about 124 sites. Well cared for and friendly staff. Not too many amenities; basketball court, ping pong, and volleyball. No pool and no camp store. Sites were a bit close but it was a very peaceful campground. Would visit again.

      Good campground

Visited Hoffman campground at the end of June. Smaller campground, fairly peaceful, lots of activities, and a nice pool. Sites are level but they are tight. Nice can store with very friendly staff.

      Indiana Dunes State Park Campground

      Amateur hour

Nicely laid out campground with mature trees. Level sites. All with electric hookups. Was greeted by very kind person at the booth. You need to know that on Sundays check-in is until 5 PM as campers from the weekend have until 5 PM to vacate their sites. Of course you can check in early if they leave. The way the campground is laid out, there are no pass that lead to the bathrooms. Therefore, people are constantly cutting through your site to get to their restrooms.

      Indiana Dunes State Park Campground

      Beautiful location and great campground!

Nice sites, well spaced. Campground is well maintained with nice bathrooms and showers (we were there after a massive storm in early June and there had been some flooding in the bathrooms). From the campsite, walk through the forest and Dunes to the beautiful beach. Our dog was in heaven!

      Thousand Trails Bear Cave

      Great location

Although the sites are a bit close, this campground is a great spot if you have a car. I’ve taken day trips to Grand Rapids, Chicago and Indiana Dunes National Park from here.

      Pike Lake County Campground

      Beautiful scenery

We absolutely love the little beach and playground area so close. The bathrooms were very well kept. The people were very friendly to us. My children played with other children & having kids, I appreciated the small/close vibes it had. If you're a loud family, maybe don't stay long but it's a lovely little getaway close to town. The cemetery across the street is such a lovely addition for our little spooky family.
