Stayed at site 201 at the Hildebrandt campground. Sites are smallish. Most sites have some shade, but little privacy in between. The scenery wasnt that great, mostly vine like trees you'd see in a flood plain. The water pump was out during our stay and needed to go to the station near the modern campground.
We were scheduled to stay for 3d/2n but plans changed due to weather from hurricane beryl. It started to rain in the first evening and we had a mini creek running through our site. With the amount of rain projected to be on its way we could only imagine it being completely flooded.
Mosquitoes were awful even before the rain. Vault toilets were well taken care of.
If you want quite or the sound of nature, this campground is not for you. You can hear road traffic and trains at all times, especially at night. The general store near the campground entrance is a nice convenience if you forgot something or need ice/fire wood.
It is wonderful though how close the Campground are to Lake Michigan/warren dunes, which is why we stayed.

I stayed August 15th-18th, 2023. We were in Hildebrandt campsite 210. Very spacious, respectful neighbors, and the pit toilets were not atrocious, maybe just slightly smelly at times. Overall worth the time and trip.

The dull roar of I-94 traffic was constant at all hours, and the louder/closer traffic of cars speeding down Red Arrow Highway directly behind the campground made even earplugs insufficient to get much sleep. A few sites seemed to have a bit more grass coverage, but the one I stayed at and the majority of others in the Hildebrandt loop were basically just dusty dirt lots. Sites are directly next to each other, no privacy between sites. Trees were scarce at my site, and there was nowhere to hang a hammock.
Hildebrandt Campground--
The campground itself was great. The sites were pretty close together and not and tree barrier between them. It was super close to the beach and tons of things to do in the area. We stayed Sunday through Thursday and it was pretty empty. However it POURED down rain 2/4 of those nights. I don't just mean a steady drizzle, it almost blew our tent down. It got pretty crazy. There were lots of sites completely under water the next morning. We got pretty lucky to not have any standing water in ours. Now the mosquitos! Insane! I've never seen more mosquitos in my life. You literally couldn't even walk out of your tent without being swarmed. The woman at the campstore said it wasn't usual to be that bad. We kept a fire going and it seemed to help a bit. I'd definitely recommend visiting the produce stand right down the road. They had every vegetable and fruit you could imagine. The strawberries were the best I've had. I'd probably stay there again and pay attention to the weather a bit more.
Great park with lots to do, all the MI state park amenities, and natural beauty. However, you can hear the highway traffic from the campgrounds and the sites are pretty open with little privacy from your neighbors.

Lots of campers packed in, but we enjoyed the brief stay
