Best Campgrounds near Milan, IN

Southeastern Indiana's camping landscape around Milan includes several established campgrounds within a 30-minute drive. Delaware Campground, located directly in Milan, offers tent and RV sites with electric hookups, showers, and dump stations. Nearby Versailles State Park Campground, the second largest state park in Indiana, provides year-round camping with boat-in, drive-in, and walk-in access for tents, RVs, and cabins. The region between Cincinnati and Indianapolis features a mix of state parks, private RV resorts, and water-oriented camping options along the Ohio River and various lakes.

Reservations are essential at most campgrounds, particularly during summer weekends and holidays. Many Indiana state parks charge an entrance fee ($9 in some cases) in addition to camping fees, which visitors should factor into their budgets. Cell service varies considerably throughout the area, with several campers reporting spotty coverage even at developed sites. According to one camper at Clifty Falls State Park, "The sites are extremely spacious and plenty of sites with shade. The shower houses are mediocre but no problems with hot water and water pressure." Road conditions within campgrounds can be challenging, with one visitor noting "roads tight and only 1 dump station for 70+ sites" at Versailles State Park.

Water recreation forms a central feature of camping in this region, with many sites offering access to lakes, reservoirs, and the Ohio River. Thousand Trails Indian Lakes in Batesville provides over 1,000 sites with boat-in access and seasonal operation from April through November. Wildlife encounters are common, particularly raccoons, which one camper described as "horrible here, I'm talking 'walk up to your campfire as you're sitting next to it and steal food that's on the burner' bad." Families appreciate the recreational amenities, with one visitor noting that Indiana campgrounds "revolve more around family fun than a rugged outdoor experience" with "easy day hikes with rewarding views."

    Jim Terrell Park

    Looks Good!

    8/13/2025

NOTE: I did NOT stay here. I was going to, but decided to drive a little farther than I had initially planned. I did want to check it out though because there aren't many reviews.

This looks like a solid option to tent for a night though. The town looks very nice and quiet, and the park seems well-kempt. If the sites are on the river, just know there's a restaurant on the opposite bank that might be a source of noise/light at night, and the park itself is kind of close to the road. I'm not exactly sure where one would tent, but there did seem to be some flat space behind a rafting/kayaking shack to the left as you pull in.

    Clifty Falls State Park Campground

    High quality state park

My only few gripes with this place. One all though the dnr staff is friendly I got pointed in the wrong direction 2 times about where to check in for camping. It is a very clean park. Just be sure if tent camping to hide your trash as wildlife is very brave to get up close and personal with your things

    Indian Springs Campground

    Nice campground, well cared for

The spaces are gravel and level. The campground is mostly RV with a few private apartments/houseboat.

Quiet, most all of the waterfront sites were taken. We took a chance on last minute reservations and there were plenty of pull through spots. Easy to setup.

Checkin/out no problem. They have a code for gate entry.

Bathhouse bathrooms are date but clean. A bit on small side, not very comfortable.

There is not much common area for grass/waterside…kinda feel like your in someone’s spot/yard area.

There is a playground for young kids.

About 30 minutes from downtown Cincinnati…easy to get to a game.

    Heflen Park

    Heflin Park

Very Quiet. You can float down the river. There's a kids playground. Blu Canoes right next door. Fast food not far off. The bugs are a little overwhelming. They spray tomorrow so it may be different.

    General Butler State Resort Park

Been going there for years. Sites are tight, but well ran park.

Clean, professional campground. Sites loops are tight but people with big fifth wheels were able to manage just fine. The fish were biting the weekend I was there!

    Thousand Trails Indian Lakes

    Needs new management

Terrible management. Pics are outdated and most everything is run down. Only one pool open during short hours. No gas station, no slide, nasty lake water & nobody takes the trash/dumpsters out. Completely inundated with annual spots being reserved by weekend warriors meaning minimal availability for people who want to be here during the week. There are SEVERAL dozen spots available and we were told if the spot we got didn’t work we could pick something else. At 8pm during dinner we were disturbed by a park ranger and forced to move to a spot half the size with no hookups. She literally brought us to an overflow area that our rig doesn’t fit in. She made us pack up our entire camp site to move so someone else could have the spot, even though there were MULTIPLE spots available. Had to be extremely persistent to get a FHU spot only to see dozens continue to be available for the rest of our 2 week stay.

They also charge you $5 per package to pick up your own mail from the building and $10 for a key card to access the park. Management is certainly skimming off of customers here. Will travel further to another TT campground to avoid this place in the future.

    Seasonal camper

We stay here from April to November and love it. Plenty for the kids to do. And fun activities for the adults as well. Also can’t forget the lakeside bar with live music every weekend!
