Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still conveineant

This campground is off the beaten path near Destin (about a 30 minute drive), but is still very convenient.  It's got all the amenities and then some. Cabin rental, ice, pool, fishing, boat dock, clean bathrooms, playground, etc.  There is a nice gas station/small store just up the road too.  It's on a dead end road, so there is little traffic.  Even saw a couple of small gators by the boat dock! Very nice place, would stay there again!

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

Best destination on the emerald coast!

Great site and beautiful lake view on site 16. Access to the beach was a bonus (most public beach access are closed due to covid19). They have convenient kayak and paddle board rentals at the beach access for the lake. They also have a great nature trail that offers wonderful views of the sand dunes. Very close to seaside and some great restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking. Site had a picnic table and metal fire ring with flip over grill surface for cooking. They sold ice and firewood at the entrance (locked after office closes for the night). Book early and check site availability often this place stays pretty busy. Bathrooms were clean and serviceable.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground

    One of the best.

Great campground with full hookups! Longer hike to the beach than Henderson State Park but everyone seemed to have adapted with beach cart trailers behind their bikes. Beach tram runs when not on COVID shut down. Some sites are close together but the south loop sites had more privacy. Great biking in the park and along 30A. Also has many nice cabin rentals. Beach is absolutely beautiful!

    Beautiful well kept state park

Amazing state park on the water. The campground is modern with nice clean bathrooms, laundry machines, vending machines, park store with cart rentals and other items. The spaces are close together but great. Nice level gravel pads, full hookups including sewer, and most have fire pits and picnic table.

SO happy we chose a cabin!

So, we are usually tent campers but on this night we decided to try a cabin rental and we were SO happy with the decision. The tent sites had little shade and I think it would have been very hot in the summer sun! The campsites looked to be pretty private which was nice to note. The beach was wonderful- a very enjoyable place to spend time :)

    Southern Hospitality at its Best!

Staff: once again the entire staff is a living definition of southern hospitality. The moment you step on the property you are greeted with staff that actually want to be there, everyone from office, store, clubhouse and maintenance. They do an amazing job at setting a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere for all patrons. 5 STARS! Accommodations: Grounds: well maintained and clean; Pool Area: Clean and pool is HEATED. Cabins: clean and have a pinterest beach vibe! Pet Area: clean, double gated, lighted with bench poo bags supplied! Pet friendly. Pier and beach area very clean with swings and super comfortable lounge chairs to soak up all the sun and breeze. Pier is great for fishing and benches along the pier provide a great way to view sunrise and sunset. Club house: during our stay they hosted an amazing THANKSGIVING dinner and a paint night; also features a large screen tv and seating areas for those occasional rainy days. On the weekends they have breakfast on the grill, best breakfast I've had in a long time(shout out to the cook and staff:) Playground area is lighted with a box of sand toys and various other toys to keep the kidos busy. Atmosphere: There is NO OTHER campground in the area that beats the atmosphere at this campground. The staff and the care they take to make sure everyone's experience is the best is hands down the best in this area. I honestly can't think of one thing that would have made our stay more enjoyable. This is the second time I've stayed here.

    Henderson Beach State Park Campground

Quiet and secluded for the beach

My family and I stayed here for one night in July 2020 as our midway point from GA to Texas. We stayed in site 44 and it was private and near the bathrooms. All the sites had gravel, a picnic table, and and a fire pit as well as a clothesline. There’s a path to the beach from the bathhouse. The bathhouse was very clean and there were men and women restrooms as well as private bathroom/showers.

We fit 2 tents at our site. It was so humid and muggy I cowboy camped on the gravel with my picnic blanket and sleeping pad. Everyone else slept in the tents without the rain fly’s for some ventilation. It was a nice, clean, and quiet park and we felt very secluded in our site. There was WiFi and cell service (2 bars for Verizon).

Each site has electric and water. There’s a dump station near the entrance/exit of the park. Overall, lovely experience and I would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Miramar Beach

Cabin accommodations near Miramar Beach offer Florida Panhandle coastal access with significantly less rainfall in winter months. The region averages 20 to 30 inches lower in elevation than inland Florida, creating a unique coastal environment. Rental cabins provide structured shelter while maintaining proximity to both the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay waterways.

What to do

Beach access at Henderson Beach: Short walking paths connect campers to pristine Gulf shores at Henderson Beach State Park Campground. "You are in the middle of Destin but this place is gorgeous and quiet. The sites are luscious and private. Walking path to a beautiful beach. Very clean," notes visitor Lynn A.

Fishing from private piers: Cast lines directly from campground docks at Emerald Beach RV Park where dedicated fishing areas provide convenient water access. According to James R., "Park located on small white sand beach. Site 50 is level with full hookups."

Wildlife viewing: Multiple parks feature natural habitats with observable wildlife. At Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground, one visitor encountered "beautiful sites happy people on earth day last Saturday I took many pics talked to interesting people, received face paint bee for me and butterfly for my Margaret."

Hiking coastal trails: Preserve areas maintain walking paths through dunes and coastal forests. James M. explains Topsail Hill offers "Good trails, coastal dunes with lakes, fishing, paddling, beach, cabins, and tent camping including Glamping!"

What campers like

Private beach sections: Many campgrounds maintain their own shorelines separate from public beaches. At Navarre Beach Camping Resort, visitors appreciate the dedicated waterfront. As Katie N. describes, "This campground has its own sweet little beach and pier. Also has a small hot tub and a 4 foot deep heated pool."

Camp store conveniences: On-site shopping provides essentials without leaving the grounds. A Topsail Hill camper noted, "Clean showers, friendly staff at the camp store," highlighting practical amenities that enhance cabin stays.

Clean bathroom facilities: Consistently maintained facilities receive high marks from travelers. At Twin Lakes Camp Resort, visitors find "one of the best campgrounds we've ever stayed! Beautiful, picturesque campsites. A lot of them have lake views. Bathrooms/showers are gorgeous," according to Cynthia K.

Private site layouts: Space between accommodations varies by location. Henderson Beach offers "sites are luscious and private" while another visitor mentions it's "right in the heart of Destin but the best beach on the coast if you're not looking for crowds but if you are looking for space to spread out."

What you should know

Reservation timing: Advanced planning is essential for securing cabin rentals during peak seasons. Henderson Beach State Park requires early booking as "Book well in advance it's very popular!" according to Larry.

Military access options: Service members have dedicated facilities with restricted access. At Mid Bay Shores Maxwell, a visitor describes "28 RV spaces with full hook-ups– water, electrical and sewer, and six overflow sites with just water and electrical hook-ups."

Site variability: Cabin conditions and amenities differ substantially between locations. At St. Andrews State Park Campground, "The sites are all VERY different. Some are tiny, some are huge. Some have waterfront and many don't."

Pet policies: Most cabin accommodations permit pets with specific guidelines. Navarre Beach Camping Resort offers "pet-friendly cabins with a Pinterest beach vibe" according to previous visitors, though individual pet fees and restrictions apply.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly swimming areas: Protected swimming zones provide safer water access. One Topsail Hill visitor recommends "the 'Kiddie Pool' at the jetties" as a special destination for children to enjoy calmer water conditions.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds maintain dedicated play equipment. Live Oak Landing offers "nice campground with easy access to Seaside and Sandestin, FL" with family-friendly amenities including "playground, etc."

Separate sleeping spaces: When booking cabins, consider floor plans that accommodate family dynamics. At Camp On The Gulf, a visitor noted their accommodations had "2 nice pools and all other amenities like Wi-Fi, laundry, sewer, etc. Easy access to local shopping and dining."

Organized activities: Some facilities schedule regular programming. One Camp On The Gulf visitor mentioned "the week we were there they had a different activity for the kids each day. They had painting sand dollars, bubba the alligator show, face painting and even an Easter egg hunt."

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Review exact measurements when booking. At Henderson Beach, "Sites are huge and shaded. The campgrounds are clean. You can walk to one of the best beaches in the United States."

Beach transport options: Consider equipment for moving gear to waterfront areas. A Camp On The Gulf visitor mentioned "We also rented a cart buggy to haul our stuff to and from the beach for $5 a day and it came in handy taking laundry to the laundry area."

Hookup variations: Services differ between cabin types and locations. At Twin Lakes Camp Resort, "Surrounded by 2 lakes this is a nice clean camp ground. Concert pads with full hook ups... A little close to your neighbors for me. They have fishing docks and a nice little store."

Wi-Fi accessibility: Internet service varies substantially between facilities. A Navarre Beach Camping Resort visitor notes "The ATT service was also excellent for cell and data coverage" while at other locations connectivity may be limited to common areas.
