    St. Andrews State Park Campground

Great camp spot on the Emerald Coast. Near the city but a world away.

Newly renovated following Hurricane Michael, the camp boasts great shower and laundry facilities, electrical hookups, back in and pull through sites among the quiet of the beach dunes and palmetto swamp... a great natural area minutes from Panama City/Panama City Beach. There’s great opportunities for beachcombing, snorkeling and diving, particularly on the south end of the park on Shell Island, which is accessible by water taxi shuttle during the season. Recent viewing includes the lower mount and traverse rings of gun turrets constructed 1942-43, when the 166th infantry regiment was stationed here to guard Gulf shipping from German U-Boats following the sinking of the Empire Mica.

    Live Oak Landing

    Nice resort RV park

$60 per night. Don't usually stay at resort parks but not much else available last minute. Nice level pads with some space but no privacy or shade. Interspersed with cute cottages. Great bathhouse. Recreation room, boat launch, canoe rentals, laundry. They pick up your bagged trash and will deliver wood. Picnic table, fire pit, grill. Dog park onsite.

    Live Oak Landing

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still conveineant

This campground is off the beaten path near Destin (about a 30 minute drive), but is still very convenient.  It's got all the amenities and then some. Cabin rental, ice, pool, fishing, boat dock, clean bathrooms, playground, etc.  There is a nice gas station/small store just up the road too.  It's on a dead end road, so there is little traffic.  Even saw a couple of small gators by the boat dock! Very nice place, would stay there again!

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

Best destination on the emerald coast!

Great site and beautiful lake view on site 16. Access to the beach was a bonus (most public beach access are closed due to covid19). They have convenient kayak and paddle board rentals at the beach access for the lake. They also have a great nature trail that offers wonderful views of the sand dunes. Very close to seaside and some great restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking. Site had a picnic table and metal fire ring with flip over grill surface for cooking. They sold ice and firewood at the entrance (locked after office closes for the night). Book early and check site availability often this place stays pretty busy. Bathrooms were clean and serviceable.

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

    Amazing Campground

We stayed in site 35 at the end of December. Site was level and had privacy from the neighboring sites, with electric, water and sewer hookups! Easy walk to Western Lake - some sites even back up to the lake. Longer walk to the beach/gulf, but we found the walk to be beautiful and saw quite a few birds along the way. No pets allowed on the beach - if you have a dog, ask the rangers for the brochure listing dog beaches in FL. We drove to Panama City Beach to go to the dog beach at Pier Park, which was a nice alternative. We did the Barrier Dunes Nature Trail - note that this is listed as a loop, but when we were there, it wasn’t a loop and most people we passed on the trail weren’t wearing masks. In its current state, there weren’t any gulf views from this trail. The campground was VERY quiet the whole time we were there.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground

    One of the best.

Great campground with full hookups! Longer hike to the beach than Henderson State Park but everyone seemed to have adapted with beach cart trailers behind their bikes. Beach tram runs when not on COVID shut down. Some sites are close together but the south loop sites had more privacy. Great biking in the park and along 30A. Also has many nice cabin rentals. Beach is absolutely beautiful!

    St. Andrews State Park Campground

    Beautiful well kept state park

Amazing state park on the water. The campground is modern with nice clean bathrooms, laundry machines, vending machines, park store with cart rentals and other items. The spaces are close together but great. Nice level gravel pads, full hookups including sewer, and most have fire pits and picnic table.

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

SO happy we chose a cabin!

So, we are usually tent campers but on this night we decided to try a cabin rental and we were SO happy with the decision. The tent sites had little shade and I think it would have been very hot in the summer sun! The campsites looked to be pretty private which was nice to note. The beach was wonderful- a very enjoyable place to spend time :)

    Torreya State Park Campground

    Mountains of Florida

Great trails in the mountains of Florida. Campsites are narrow but long we had enough space to set our screen room up behind camper. Hurricane michael did extensive damage to the area. Trees and shrubs are growing back. Not much shrubbery between sites. Two super cool yurts for rent and a cabin. Campground is set above the ravine which makes for awesome sunsets. The trails can be accessed from campground. Most of the trails are pretty strenuous especially for Florida. Warning about copperhead snakes at this park so I would not take dogs on any of the trails.

Guide to Panama City

Panama City cabin camping options sit along the Gulf of Mexico on Florida's northwestern coast, where white sand beaches meet pine forests. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters rarely dropping below 40°F. Cabin rentals range from rustic waterfront structures to fully equipped vacation units, with availability typically most limited during March spring break season and summer months.

What to do

Beach exploration: St. Andrews State Park offers calm swimming areas perfect for families with young children. According to visitor James M., the park features "trails, paddling access, shelters, concession, food available. CG has back in, and pull thru sites with fire rings, water, electric, pads. Good views of Grand Lagoon. Wildlife viewing is good and park has interpretive center."

Fishing opportunities: Camping cabins around Panama City provide excellent access to both freshwater and saltwater fishing. At Indian Pass Campground, one visitor noted, "Tent camping limited but the 5 tent sites are ON THE WATER and the fishing is spectacular!" Bring appropriate licenses for both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Nature trails: Many cabin camping locations feature hiking paths through coastal forest. At Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground, visitors can access "cool shorter hiking trails to take you to lakes or the gulf," according to Travis D., who added that the "fire pits are great, it looks like all spots have a picnic table."

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Several Panama City cabin rental facilities offer good spacing between units. At St. Andrews State Park Campground, Sara S. mentioned, "The campground was well maintained and not very loud and didnt feel overly busy. Our site was not overly private, but some of the other sites looked more private and some were even on the lagoon!"

Wildlife viewing: The natural habitats around Panama City cabin rentals support diverse wildlife. Vicky E. at St. Andrews State Park Campground shared, "I like to kayak in calm waters. There was plenty of that. I also like to camp on the water. Which was perfect... The deer around were practically tame."

Beach accessibility: Most campers appreciate the proximity to beaches from cabin accommodations. At Camper's Inn, Rick noted, "Good location with boardwalk access to beach. Park amenities were as described. Drawback was traffic on Thomas Drive, except vehicle noise in evening with cyclists and roadster revving it up."

What you should know

Reservation timing: Panama City cabin rentals require advance planning, especially during peak periods. According to Angeline S. at St. Andrews State Park, "Just be sure to book the campsite well in advance, this place is super popular and fills up very quickly."

Weather considerations: The Panama City area experiences occasional severe weather that can impact cabin stays. Jeff T. from Campers Inn reported, "It rained heavy!!! Tornado warning heavy. Yes it is wet and large puddles everywhere but this is Florida. Our site had a huge puddle but everything is solid underneath us."

Site variability: Cabin and site quality varies significantly across properties. One camper at Raccoon River Campground noted, "Small but quaint. They have basketball courts, two swimming pools, laundry, store, fishing (no license necessary), shuffleboard, playground, volleyball and more."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Panama City cabin camping provides numerous options for children. Matt M. at St. Andrews State Park shared, "These sites are perfect for our group to book two or three sites together and for the kids to ride their bikes around the loop. We also have ventured out to Shell Island by boat to swim and play on the back side (calm waters). A special treat for the kids each year is the white tailed deer walking through the sites."

Off-beach entertainment: Several cabin camping facilities offer recreation beyond beach activities. At Raccoon River Campground, Courtney B. mentioned, "About 10min walk to putt putt golf, beach, and water park. Shady, clean, 2 pools are very nice. Can be a little noisy at night from road traffic. Oh, great playground and fort looking structure for people with kiddos."

Safety considerations: Parents should research specific safety features at each cabin location. Sonyia W. noted that at St. Andrews State Park, "There is also a nature trail with a freshwater swamp (featuring gators, of course). We saw lots of other wildlife around, including deer and rabbits."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabin accommodations near Panama City, check site specifications carefully. Cat R. at Panama City Beach RV Resort warned, "We were in site 37. Barely long enough for a 27 ft camper. Room for only one vehicle. The electric hookup box, had a broken cover."

Amenities: Cabins throughout the Panama City area offer varying levels of amenities. At Emerald Coast RV Beach Resort, Corina J. described, "Spent spring break 2021 there. Loved the amenities; two heated pools, clean nice playgrounds for the kids, nice laundry area, great layout to take walks, level clean spots, trash ran twice a day (picked up from your spot!) and nice employees everywhere I met!"
