Fisheating Creek Campground accommodates pets at tent sites, RV spaces, and cabins with designated pet-friendly areas throughout the property. The Glades RV Resort and Uncle Joe's Motel & Campground also welcome dogs with spacious walking areas along their waterfront properties. Most campgrounds near Clewiston maintain standard leash requirements, though several reviewers note that enforcement varies between properties. Torry Island Campground provides water views where campers can walk dogs along shoreline paths, while South Bay RV Campground offers dedicated pet exercise areas. Campers should be aware that Pahokee Beach RV Resort enforces breed restrictions, specifically prohibiting pit bulls and pit mixes regardless of temperament or training.

Wildlife considerations affect where pets can safely explore around Lake Okeechobee campgrounds. Alligators frequent canals and waterways near camping areas, requiring extra vigilance when walking dogs near shorelines or boat ramps. Several campgrounds charge additional pet fees ranging from $5 daily at Lakeport RV Resort to flat-rate charges at others. The primitive camping areas in nearby wildlife management areas allow pets but lack fenced areas for off-leash exercise. Hiking trails at Fisheating Creek provide excellent dog walking opportunities, though the paths require leashed pets due to wildlife encounters. Campers report varying cleanliness of pet waste stations between properties, with KOA Okeechobee maintaining the cleanest dog park facilities in the area. Summer heat requires early morning or evening pet activities, with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F during daytime hours.

Istokpoga Canal Boat Ramp And Campsite

      Very relaxing 5 star review

The place is gorgeous and if you want shade or sun it offers both. Quiet, relaxing, good trails that lead over to Hickory Hammock campground. Audrey is a excellent camp host.

They keep it very clean and is very helpful in showing you the campsites. It is right off the main road so no dirt road to get there though you have some road noise but you can get back away from most of it.  Lots of wildlife in the woods, nothing bothered the campsite.

There are bathrooms but no showers. They are a ways away from the campground. Its still shocking you can camp in Florida like this for free. Hope we can keep it this way for a long time.

Istokpoga Canal Boat Ramp And Campsite

      Florida backcountry

Being from the area I am prepared for the weather. If you aren’t familiar with central Florida summers, which is about 11 1/2 months of the year it’s hot, humid, and loaded with bugs. We also have great wildlife. Use caution around them, especially near the water with small pets.

      KOA Campground Okeechobee

A great place for families and kids...

This is the largest KOA in the country...It's a Great campground for families, although I didn't go with one...There is an adult only pool, and a family pool. The Shanty, a bar is right by the adult pool, with entertainment in season and mostly on weekends. I've been there many times in the past, with my TT and my Coach...The sites are mostly large enough for Big rigs...There are upgrades to deluxe sites with brick patios, barbeques, fire pits and chairs. It's a very busy place on the holidays...If you want quiet those days, I don't suggest you go there...There is also a Golf Course, Golf Cart Rental, A nice updated store, A fenced in Dog park...

      Golden Palms Luxury Motorcoach Resort

      Simply Awful

We had an exceptionally unpleasant experience due to the pet policy being misrepresented. We paid in advance, their policy, for the entire month of February. We had to sign a document stating the payment was not refundable. Before signing, we read through the policies that affected renters, like the pet policy and did not see anything out of line with other RV parks. We set up our exercise pens for the dogs, like we've done at every RV park for the last 30 years. We were informed that exercise pens violated their policy. We had not seen that and asked that it be shown to us. They showed a construction policy that stated owners were not allowed to build a fence on their property. We had not built anything on their property, but they maintained that an exercise pen was a fence and had to be taken down. Our dogs are quiet and love to bask in the warm sun. It felt like a cruel expectation for them to have to stay in our RV 24/7 for a full month. They suggested that we could tie our dogs out on the lawn, but they are escape artists and we could not risk them getting away. We again stated that we were not in any way violating their policy. They were very indifferent. We could not put our pets through being confined to and RV, so we immediately left. They refused to refund our money, offer a stay at another date or even offer any kindness at all. This is truly the worst experience and poorest treatment that we've ever had at an RV resort.

      La Belle Woods Resort

      Great Inland Florida Park

We spent the winter here after usually being near the beach. It was a fun place to be to experience a different ambience. The city of LaBelle has winter events like their Swamp Cabbage Festival and parade. They have a nice rodeo grounds with impressive events. The RV park itself has tons of activities and pickle ball courts etc. Owners friendly. We don’t have a pet, but everyone seems careful with their dogs. It’s a very seasonal park and pretty new. They just finished a second new laundry and showers building this 2023 year. Very fair prices. But must have a less-than-ten-year-old rig.

      W.P. Franklin N

What you see is what you get...

WP Franklin Campground, Alva, Florida. Army Corp of Engineers Lock

WP Franklin Campground is located fairly close to Fort Myers, FL (west on Rt.80) so you are within 45 minutes to the Gulf Coast beaches (during off-season) and much, much longer during winter months. However, if you enjoy paddling or boating…you are there! Short distance hiking is closeby, as well as MTB trails.

I will begin with the positives

      •Wonderfully nice hosts

•Impeccably clean grounds, sites, docks, restrooms

      •Manicured grassy areas

•On its own boomerang-shaped river island

      •Boater's/Fisherman's paradise

•Charcoal grill ridiculously spotless…along with the fire pit…spaciously situated on clean, raked pea gravel

      •Covered picnic table

•Long, level concrete parking pad, angled for back-in

      •Water hookups/Electric at every site

•7/8 of all sites are on the river

      •Mature, quiet crowd

•Several boat camper docks with electric/water

•Relatively close to Gulf Coast beaches, shopping and nightlife

•Regional park nearby offers trails (but was affected by hurricane Irma)

      •Regional mountain bike trails nearby

•Water is ten feet from your site…slide your paddle craft in and go…or back your power craft down a ramp in the center of the campground

•Multiple docks, shoreline and locks to fish from

The not so positives for tent campers

•Absolutely no privacy…at all. Palm trees are lovely but offer no barrier between neighbors

      •Small campground…no trails…just surrounding water

•Literally on top of your neighbor

•No need for a nightlight. All night Streetlights penetrate tent walls/fly

•Noisy! Air traffic from RSW is nonstop, road traffic from Rt 78 and/or Rt 80 seemed nonstop (and technically it's not season yet), yappy lap dogs

•Expensive for no amenities at $30 a night

•Tent is 4ft. from campground roadway…sounds/feels like vehicles are in the tent with you as they pass

•Staying at site 27, overflow parking is ten feet away…more noise

•Prepare for mosquitos and chiggers (not bad, but just bring your repellent)

I continue to try local Campgrounds in SW Florida…so this is an attempt to see what my state has to offer. I ordinarily seek out the solitude of faraway mountain states and more rustic/primitive/backcountry camping options. This was akin to sleeping in my backyard…correction…my yard is far quieter and less busy…offering more privacy

For the RV/Camper set…this must be popular and enjoyable, even though I wasn't contented. If you are an RV/Camper…and bring your toys…using this as a base camp to launch activities…there are plenty of areas nearby to explore and enjoy the wild…on land and water!

This is purely personal, based on what I like and dislike when I desire to visit campgrounds. I will not return, but only because I am not an RV/Camper type of person.. Plenty of reviewers give this Campground five stars, so take my comments for what they're worth. Regardless, bring your earplugs, noise cancelling headphones or heavily insulated RV/camper…or revel in the noise.

Tomorrow is another day and another Campground!

    Guide to Clewiston

Situated within a critical environmental zone near Lake Okeechobee, Clewiston camping destinations connect visitors to South Florida's wetland ecosystems at an elevation just 16 feet above sea level. The area's subtropical climate creates distinct camping seasons with summer high temperatures typically reaching 92°F and winter lows around 60°F. Camping options range from primitive riverside spots to full-service RV resorts with lake access.

    What to do

Hiking the rim trail: Torry Island Campground offers an accessible nature trail with observation deck providing wildlife viewing opportunities. "Great hike around the campground. Much wildlife for sure to see. Holiday festivals, and the end of harvest season festival. Black Gold Jubilee is a must attend," notes Brian C.

Fishing excursions: Fisheating Creek Campground provides prime fishing access along its waterways. According to Jim B., there are "plenty of opportunities for hiking, fishing (not necessarily catching though), and paddling. Good sanitary facilities and a decently stocked store with firewood and snacks."

Boat tours: The waterways around Lake Okeechobee offer unique exploration opportunities. At Torry Island, according to Patricia, "Air boats tend to be very loud and here they go out even during quiet time which woke us up every night. However they do offer tours and the tour is fantastic."

    What campers like

Lake access: Ortona South campground provides direct river viewing with lock system access. Mike Y. shares that it's "very clean and peaceful. Not much around area making this a great place to do some nighttime photography. Little light pollution."

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the generous spacing at Corps of Engineers campgrounds. Janet H. notes that Ortona South has "spacious sites, with level cement pads. Best sites are 21 to 26 back up to small canal with a lock. Fun to watch boats navigate thru. Fishing on canal."

Wildlife viewing: The Glades RV Resort and other area campgrounds offer excellent wildlife observation. According to Christina at Ortona South, the area is "a birders paradise. Also have resident gators. Long entrance road to get in which we took advantage of to run and bike."

    What you should know

Security measures: Most campgrounds implement security systems for visitor safety. At Torry Island, Napunani explains: "Security gate always closed. Must buy keycard to open gate."

Seasonal considerations: Sugar cane harvesting affects air quality during certain seasons. Napunani also notes: "Black ash from nearby sugar cane field burning raining down on everything—what a big mess."

Local amenities: Torry Island Campground has limited nearby services. Dave S. mentions: "The nearby towns left a lot to be desired there were very few decent places to eat, and the surrounding neighborhood was pretty rough."

Power reliability: Several campgrounds experience occasional utility disruptions. Napunani reports: "Two power failures in less than 12 hours. One was 5 hours long."

    Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Uncle Joe's Motel & Campground offers family-friendly fishing options. David K. reports: "Located on the rim canal of Lake Okeechobee, we stayed for two nights to go to the Hendry County Speedway for dirt track racing and basically caught a Bass every time we cast a line."

Beach access: Some campgrounds offer small beach areas for safe water play. Kevin T. at Fisheating Creek notes: "There is a nice little spot with a beach that was popular to pull over and stretch your feet."

Group camping sites: Larger families or groups should seek specific campgrounds. Hunter P. explains: "We gathered our large family with relatives and went up to Fisheating Creek for a camping weekend. Many of the sites are grouped in large clearing and connected to their neighbor sites."

Early morning activities: Schedule outdoor activities during cooler hours. Nancy at Torry Island suggests: "Great lake walk with observation tower" which is best enjoyed during morning hours before heat builds.

    Tips from RVers

Solar power options: Pahokee Marina & Campground and other resorts are adding renewable energy. The Glades RV Resort manager explains: "Our Solar Farm is engineered to power the electric needs of our 400 site park, golf course, and marina."

Site selection for big rigs: Some campgrounds have tight turning areas for larger RVs. Napunani warns at Torry Island: "Very tight roadways. No turn around at end of roadway so plan accordingly. Most larger trailer had the front of their trailer on the roadway edge."

Water and electric quality: Utility connections vary between properties. Jeff T. at Pahokee Marina reports: "Water pressure is great. Electric is perfect. 30amp & 50amp available."

Construction noise: Be aware of working schedules at certain campgrounds. Napunani notes: "Lots of construction workers staying in park who leave in their diesel trucks starting at 5am."
