Markham Park Campground offers full hookups for RV campers with pets across spacious sites that provide adequate privacy. Dogs are welcome throughout the designated camping areas with standard leash requirements enforced by park rangers. Both Davie/Fort Lauderdale KOA and Yacht Haven Park & Marina accommodate pets with varying amenities, though site sizes differ considerably between locations. Water access points allow dogs to cool off during warmer months, though owners should watch for posted wildlife warnings about alligators in deeper waters.

Trails surrounding Markham Park provide excellent opportunities for dog exercise, with mountain bike paths doubling as pet-friendly walking routes when less crowded. Sites at Davie KOA remain relatively close together, making it essential for owners to maintain control of pets that may bark at neighboring campers or passing dogs. The campground's location in South Florida's horse country offers unique scenery during morning and evening dog walks. Most campgrounds in the Weston area enforce standard pet policies including waste cleanup requirements and prohibition of unattended pets. Local parks including C.B. Smith and Topeekeegee Yugnee also welcome pets with similar restrictions, creating a network of options for campers with dogs seeking variety during longer stays. Veterinary services are available within short driving distance of most campgrounds.

    Quiet Waters Park

    Worth a Visit

My husband and I rented a campground flat in December. It was on the water, had a grill, electrcitiy, fire pit, tent, running water and was pet friendly. We brought our kayaks and played around. Had a lot of space to walk our dogs. It was really a great time!

    Larry & Penny Thompson Park

Quiet and Peaceful Campground, trees, greenery and option for long term

This is a very nice campground which is part of the Miami-Dade County park system.  It is close to the Encore Everglades park (about 4 miles) so we stayed here after we departed.  The campground is divided into pods and each pod has about 15 or so sites.  We were in pod 4 site 20 (420 lol).  We booked this camp with the intent to stay for a month or longer as my husband had an opportunity to Captain boats in Miami.

The park was very quiet.  Most of the campers were retirees, a few families with kids, but we were there in early January.  The grounds are nicely maintained with lots of places to walk and open space with trees.  They don't allow dogs off-leash and although it is adjacent to the rest of the Larry & Penny park, dogs are not even allowed in the main park, at all.  We did however find a few dog parks within four miles or so which were nice.

They have a very nice pool which was open daily Wed- Sunday 11am - 5pm.  It was raining and rather dreary during our stay so we didn't use the pool.  They have a nice Clubhouse and it looked okay with tables, chairs, books, puzzles, but again very quiet.  Not many activities except for a few and we didn't stay long enough to participate.  After a week, we decided to make moves back home to Lake Tahoe.  It was unseasonably cold, raining so no boat work and not an ideal spot for the dogs.  They don't have WiFi and since we were planning a longer stay, purchased the Starlink system since I work remote during the winter.  Starlink worked great, but costs $500+ to get started and then $120 or so a month.  If you are looking for an affordable long term/monthly stay, it is great.  The rates were $850 a month for full hook-ups.  They had last minute space available, too.

If you are in the area, check out the Miami Zoo.  We were there when they had the "Zoo Lights" a super fun evening event.  They have other events at the Zoo and lots to do nearby.  You are closer to town than Everglades Encore, but still close to the agricultural area.  I recommend but not as fun or as many activities as some other places.

Monument Lake Campground — Big Cypress National Preserve

    Not much but parking

Wide-open spaces surround the lake. Nothing to block the wind! The bathhouse was very clean, and the camp host was nice. Tent sites are just off the main road. This campground is a convenient location to many attractions in the Everglades. Dump Stations are available and conveniently located. NO SWIMMING! There are gators in the lake, and they can be large. Do not leave small pets unattended. All food must be secured at all times due to the proximity of wildlife.

    Southern Comfort RV Resort

    Best Park in Florida City

This park is located right off Route 1 in Florida City. For the area this is a large park. I believe over 150 sites. The sites are decent in size. The park fills up quickly come the winter time with the “ Snow Birds” but the park overall is wonderful. There is a bar/Tiki Hut on premise and a big swimming pool open year round. This is a pet friendly park but with a breed and size restriction, so call ahead if you have Fido with you.

    Encore Breezy Hill

    Forced to cancel

This park was rated as pet friendly in the TT system, turns out it isn't.  Now with under 2 weeks to go, we need to make new reservations and may have to be over an hour out from where we need to be.

Phone calls galore trying to find a new site.

    Sawgrass Recreation Park

    This place saved my life!

Sawgrass Recreation area primary businesses are airboat tours and petting zoo, however they have a small primitive campsite at the back as well. I was trying to ride my bicycle from Ft. Laudardale to South Bay, but the head wind was so strong that I was moving at a snail's pace. Luckily, this place is conviniently located just off the state route 27, an oasis of civilization on a 30 mile strech of nothingness. the camground is only open during dry season, which is late winter.

    Paradise Island RV Resort

    Stuck Without Options!

3 campers and two RVs crammed into overflow. NO full hookups as indicated over the phone. Showers NOT in the “bath house” adjacent to these crummy sites. The dumpsite is between the office and the fence. This requires you to back into position or drive down a narrow path and make 3 tight turns. Florida has NO dump sites at rest or service areas! What????

    Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA

    Very unkind management

I am writing this review to shield anyone who is camping & going through a difficult time in life, because no one deserves to be treated as we were. Unfortunately, I would never stay at this KOA ever again. It makes me very sad & upset to know that such unkind, greedy people run this campground- one of the few KOA’s in all of Florida. My family and I are going through a very rough time due to illness. We come here to be at a family wedding, to forget, to be happy & comfortable. We are big travelers all across the continental United States, and have stayed at nearly every KOA in the entire country. This is the first and hopefully last time I have ever had to write a review to protect people from coming to a campground. If you HAVE to stay here do not stay in spot 89. The KOA workers walk dogs they cannot control, that bark VERY loudly at 8AM. And all throughout the day, dogs walking past and barking. Absolute torture. We were charged for having 2 cats, $10. Never been charged for two cats that don’t leave the camper but, okay. When we got to the site, we discovered that we paid $120 for a spot with an enormous pile of dirt & construction on it. Not being dramatic. But honestly, I really didn’t care about that much. What bothered me was how they treated people. I pride myself on always being kind to people because you don’t know what anyone is going through. What bothered me was a man with facial hair on a golf cart telling me (who owns the camper & paid for the spot) to leave immediately because my sisters rental car was “not registered at the office”. He saw us come in and drove all the way back to the office to look at our registered cars. How bored and and angry at life do you have to be to care about that? Just wow. He tried to charge us money to register my pregnant sister coming to visit us for 2 hours because we “didn’t register her rental car at the office?” I have never experienced anything like that. Turns out there was one nice woman who is shorter and has dark brown hair in a ponytail, she was kind enough to tell us the TRUTH that we just had to park it in a designated spot. LOL. Why wouldn’t you tell someone that in the first place? Because you can get money out of them the first way. How cruel and greedy is that? I will never associate myself with this campground ever again. The nasty looks we received from staff during our stay was laughable. I look forward to sending a very accurate depiction of our lovely stay at the Davie KOA to the KOA Owners Association Board of Directors. I hope you desperately unhappy people can heal yourselves and find true happiness & love in this life.

Guide to Weston

Camping options near Weston, Florida offer a mix of Broward County parks and private RV resorts within 30 miles of the city. South Florida's subtropical climate means year-round camping with high humidity in summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 90°F. Winter months (November-April) bring milder temperatures in the 70-80°F range with significantly lower rainfall, making it the preferred camping season for most visitors.

What to do

Water activities at Sawgrass Recreation Park: Located just off state route 27, this park features airboat tours alongside primitive camping. "Sawgrass Recreation area primary businesses are airboat tours and petting zoo, however they have a small primitive campsite at the back as well," notes Pavel T. The campground operates primarily during the dry season in late winter.

Mountain biking at Markham Park: The park features dedicated mountain bike trails that range from beginner to advanced levels. "Lots of room to roam here. Great mountain bike trails, lakes, woods, disc golf, flora and fauna. Plus amenities you don't often find like a large outdoor shooting range (don't worry, it is quiet at night) and an RC airplane strip," writes Jeffrey W.

Visit observatory at night: Markham Park hosts stargazing sessions at its on-site observatory. "For south florida, its about as good as it gets. Also has a nice observatory on saturday nights to visit," mentions Robert D. The observatory typically opens to visitors on clear Saturday evenings.

What campers like

Accessibility to urban amenities: C.B. Smith Park Campground provides camping with city conveniences. "We stayed here for 5 months last winter. The park is very well maintained. The front area is more for weekenders. We stayed in the back behind the lake and it was very quiet/family friendly," says Kelsey P., who appreciated the park's family-friendly atmosphere.

Site privacy and spacing: Some campgrounds offer more separation between sites than others. "The campground is well-maintained, peaceful, and offers plenty of space between sites, giving a nice sense of privacy," notes Luis V. about his stay at Markham Park. This contrasts with KOA locations where sites tend to be more compact.

Security and safety: Topeekeegee Yugnee Park Campground provides excellent security measures. "Very well lit at night with security. The RV park is located in the back of the county park, so there is plenty to do: water park, outdoor gym and regular play areas for kids," states Amanda, who gave the park a 4-star rating.

What you should know

Train noise affects some parks: Several campgrounds are situated near active rail lines. "The campground does sit next to a train track i believe its a commuter line so there is an early train 4am which is startling," warns Darren F. about Topeekeegee Yugnee Park, a consideration for light sleepers.

Wildlife awareness: Markham Park Campground has water features with resident wildlife. "We've got the water way right behind us with a wide open grassy area. Great for fishing or if you've got a jet ski you can easily get on and off right there. There are gators in the water which is much deeper than one would think," cautions Jamie F.

Park entrance hours: County parks often have restricted access hours. "Park closes at 8, you can still enter through the exit gate until midnight and then have to call security to get in/out," explains Darren F. about Topeekeegee Yugnee Park, an important consideration for campers planning late arrivals or departures.

Tips for camping with families

Water park access: C.B. Smith Park includes a water park facility for family entertainment. "The park is very well maintained. The lake/dock area is beautiful, and there's a massive playground across from the campground in the main park," shares Kelsey P., noting the kid-friendly amenities available.

Renaissance festivals and events: Topeekeegee Yugnee Park hosts special events throughout the year. "We were pleasantly surprised by this park. The sites were level concrete pads, bathrooms air conditioned and clean as were the showers. Park is beautiful and they have events happening- we stumbled on a Renaissance Festival," reports Bernadette P.

Observe local wildlife: Parks near Weston offer opportunities to view native Florida species. "If you go to the park, make sure you see the burrowing owls," recommends Carlton A. about his stay at the Davie/Fort Lauderdale KOA, highlighting one of the unique wildlife viewing opportunities in the area.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for big rigs: Yacht Haven Park & Marina requires careful site selection for larger RVs. "We had high hopes for this campground, as it is a few miles west of our house, and could be a convenient layover when traveling through town... The park is too tight, and the staff too poorly trained to be tolerable," warns Ron M. who experienced difficulties with their 45-foot fifth wheel.

Dog friendly campgrounds near Weston: While most area campgrounds allow pets, accommodations vary significantly. "The campground was very clean with full hookups and sewer directly at our camp site," notes H.M. about C.B. Smith Park, which offers pet-friendly camping with convenient waste disposal options for dog owners.

RV site improvements at KOA: Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA has undergone recent renovations to upgrade their RV sites. "I went there this week and I was amazed at the transformation. It is beautiful, clean and very welcoming. Each site has new outdoor furniture and is clean," shares Elisabeth F., who visited in 2024 after several years away.
