Best Cabin Camping near Bayfield, CO

Bayfield's cabin accommodations include well-maintained rentals at Vallecito Resort, Blue Spruce RV Park, and Navajo Lake Resort. Most cabins feature electricity, picnic tables, and fire pits, with varying levels of kitchen facilities ranging from basic to full kitchenettes. Blue Spruce RV Park & Cabins offers standard cabin accommodations with access to shower facilities and picnic areas. Vallecito Resort provides cabins open from May through October, while Oasis RV Resort and Cottages offers cabin options with mountain views. "Cabin was so cute. Had everything we needed. Cold AC and a small fridge inside the cabin," noted one visitor about their experience at a nearby campground.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The Durango North-Riverside KOA offers cabin units equipped with electricity, porch lighting, and outdoor amenities including picnic tables and fire pits. Many cabins accommodate small families with bunk bed configurations, though some larger options exist for groups. Pet policies vary by location, with some properties designating specific pet-friendly cabins. Basic cabin amenities typically include electricity and outdoor seating, while cooking facilities vary significantly between properties. Some cabins provide small refrigerators and air conditioning, while others offer more basic accommodations. Camp stores at facilities like Oasis RV Resort and Durango North-Riverside KOA sell essential supplies, firewood, and limited groceries. For more substantial shopping, Durango provides full grocery options approximately 20-30 minutes from most cabin locations. Bathroom and shower facilities are generally shared community amenities rather than private in-cabin features, with most properties maintaining clean, accessible facilities.

The Last Resort RV Park & Campground

Beautiful views and a relaxing environment.

The Last Resort is a lovely RV Park and campground on the Blanco River off Highway 84 between Chama, New Mexico and Pagosa Springs, Colorado. There are full RV hook ups in the loop and partial hook up by the river. The Bunk House is a small cabin with a queen bed and electricity. Many great tent camping sites. There is a nice Bathhouse with a full kitchen, bathrooms with showers and a coin operated washer/dryer. They are open year round, free wifi and pets welcome. There is a small store with ice, sodas, snacks, fishing tackle, RV supplies, and toiletries.

This is our 3rd summer at the Last Resort. It's a very laid back place with 2 playgrounds and plenty of activities for kids - horse shoes, volleyball, tether ball, etc. They have a nice 4th of July celebration, potluck dinners and camp fires. There are often horses (and a goat) on the property and plenty of space to take a nice walk. This year, we saw a lot of Canada geese and there are also chickens and ducks. We really love watching the many hummingbirds and hanging out by the river. Lots of campers like to fish or float down the river on inner tubes.

Well maintained, beautiful and friendly hosts make for a wonderful place to stay.

    Durango North-Riverside KOA

    Clean KOA

RV sites, some tent sites and cabins. Cabins have a single and a bunk, power, porch light, picnic tables and firepit. Office has firewood. Bathrooms are stall, showers are stall/ curtained. Camp was clean and well kept. We brought a small grill and scavenged rocks to set it on; ate like kings. Great views of star as from this elevation.

Ancient Cedars Mesa Verde RV Park

Rustic resort on the doorstep of Mesa Verde National Park

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights in late July in a 34-foot travel trailer. We made reservations over the phone and found the customer service to be exemplary (I called at the last minute to both cancel and then later to re-instate my reservation when we had car trouble on the way). When we arrived the check-in process was straight forward and easy. The roads are gravel but well-graded and the majority of the sites are pull-thru. We had no trouble getting into ours, however, we found rather quickly that sites are extremely close together. Our back-side neighbors had to move their picnic table back in order to accommodate our driver-side slide (the distance between our extended slide and their trailer is about 8 feet. But... we all made it work. There is a 10 pm lights-out policy to cut down on light pollution and see the stars. And the people who camped next to us were considerate.

The campground has lots of amenities. A log cabin (rec center) with pool, video games, TV with DVD library, books, and board games. Laundry with decent pricing. Mini-golf ($3 per person). A nice pool and hot tub. A dog park with agility obstacles. Nice playground. Wifi signal is strong with decent bandwidth (they discourage streaming). Next door is a horseriding stables ($40 an hour, $25 for a half hour); the horses come up to the fence and love to be petted. The store in the office is small but has the basic amenities. Groceries can be purchased in Cortez, a 15-minute drive away. And, of course, Mesa Verde National Park is right across the road, less than 5 minutes to the visitor center.  The only downside (besides the tightness of the spaces) is that dumpster was very full and near to overflowing.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here, and thought the location to the park and local area was perfect. Would recommend and definitely stay here again.

Priest Gulch Campground and RV Park Cabins and Lodge

    Perfection at Priest Gulch

Priest Gulch Campground is a privately owned campground/RV park. They have 98 RV sites with full hookups along with tent spaces and 8 cabins available for rent. They also offer free firewood, shower facilities, and laundry along with a camp store. The property is immaculately maintained and all the hosts are kind, warm, and helpful. The RV spaces are quite close together, but there are no generators and the camp strictly enforced quiet hours. We found it to be extremely calm and relaxing with our spot right on the Animas River.

Morefield Campground — Mesa Verde National Park

    Nice campground - High price

Morefield Campground is the only campground in Mesa Verde National Park, but be forewarned, you might just experience a little sticker shot at the price. Cost for a tent site with NO hookups was almost$35 after taxes. The campground does has flush toilets and wifi through out the campground. Next to the camp store are showers and a coin laundry. Each campsite has a picnic table, tent pad and metal fire ring. The campsites really vary in appearance, some are out in the open right next to each other, other are in the trees and bushes which gives you a little more privacy, but most are still right next to another very close site. Some other these are perfectly level areas, others will have you going up of down stairs. The sites with stairs seemed to be slightly more secluded. While it was nice to have restrooms with running water, their was no way to dry your hands, so bring a towel with you as they have no paper towels or air driers for you hands. Water could be found at the restrooms. For you trash you had to find the one dumpster in the middle of the camping loop, but be warned, it could be difficult for some to open. I was a bit disappointed that the campground wasn't kept in better shape, especially for the price they were charging. Several campsites were closed due to needing repair, and the trail from the camp loop to the store was falling apart, it is need of new pavement or just remove it and go to a dirt path. They have Wifi, and said it was better the closer to the restrooms you were, but if a few people are using it, it really slows down. The Wifi was nice as you have no cell service in the campground. All in all this is a nice campground except for the price.

    Oasis RV Resort and Cottages

Oasis RV Resort - Check Satellite View

Very nice RV / Cabin / Tent resort in Durango, CO. Full service, laundry facilities, pickleball court, grills in the public area, pool during summer months. We chose a mountain view site, which does have lovely views, but the reason for the review title is it is directly above the freeway and we needed earplugs for the traffic noise. Amending to note it is a very well-maintained RV=tent/cabin park, clean restrooms, clearly marked laundry, friendly staff.

Morefield Campground — Mesa Verde National Park

    Concession in National Park

This campground inside Mesa Verde National Park is run by Aramark, a major hospitality company, which has its pros and cons. First, it’s more expensive than most national park campgrounds at $36 per night, even for dry tent sites. We were able to get half price with our America the Beautiful senior pass, which also got us into the park for free. Otherwise entry would have been $30 this time of year. (The camping discount didn’t seem to be available online, only upon registration.) There’s a camp store that sells souvenirs and beer. There are endless showers that are free with your camp registration, sanitized after every use. There are paid laundry machines. There are also many dumpsters and drinking water faucets. Toilets with running water are pretty clean, but there was no soap dispenser in the men’s room on the tent loop. We had no trouble getting a walk-up tent site. Some sites have shade trees and tent spots. All have picnic tables and fire rings, although a burn ban is in effect. The combination of Covid and the burn ban led to closure of many trails, the museum, and the visitors center. The beautiful native dwellings and some incredible geological overlooks are less than half an hour’s drive to the south. Also check out Mesa Verde Voices podcast. Very informative.

    Oasis RV Resort and Cottages

Nice site layout; Enjoyable stay! - THIS IS NOT KOA! NOW CALLED OASIS RV

CUSTOMER SERVICE: Friendly staff; shuffled our stay around so we could extend and not relocate during the week.

WIFI/ CELL SERVICE: Camp wifi and speed seemed to work really well! I could use email and stream videos with no delay; however we used a hot spot for work calls to be more clear, but their wifi probably could have been fine to do so. 2 of 4 bars AT&T but calls came in fine throughout the entire park.

SITE: Pretty campground layout. Love the"S" curved pull thru sites. We had an"S" shaped site with nice privacy and ease of arriving and leaving because of design. The sites all seemed to be nicely spaced from one another and private even though you are nearby. There were some views and there were a few pretty fall trees and a vacant pasture to look at while sitting at the picnic table. A small creek flows along the edge of site 23. Full hookup; level site; heated water so didn't have to worry about pipes freezing during stay; fire pit; grill; full sun site; rock roads but well maintained and not too dusty; light road noise. I'm sure the sites closer to the highway are louder near the campground entrance; no bugs in October that we experienced.

OTHER: Nearby Walmart and shopping center. About 20 min drive from Historic Downtown; about 5 minutes from Anytime Fitness gym. Laundry room was small and they didn't clean our clothes very well, but it was kept clean.

Ranger Review of Banner& Oaks Patriot Navy Blue T-Shirt

I really like this T-shirt. Fit is just right and the shirt is really soft, and has stayed that way after numerous washings. The best thing is that it is American made, hard to find much in the way of clothing that is anymore.

Most Bayfield cabin facilities operate seasonally from May through October due to winter weather conditions. Summer temperatures typically range from 45-85°F with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August.

River relaxation: Pagosa Riverside Campground offers direct access to the San Juan River for fishing and wading. "We had a tent site on the river with our puppy. The staff were very helpful and the facilities including the showers were well maintained," reports a camper who enjoyed riverside accommodations.

Historical exploration: Mesa Verde National Park lies within driving distance of Bayfield cabin accommodations. A camper at Mesa Verde's campground explains, "Staying here makes for an easy morning before some ranger led tours. The park is big. If you have the option to stay here, stay here."

What campers like

River views: Durango North-Riverside KOA offers premium riverside cabin accommodations. "This campground is amazing! As stated before, this is no longer a KOA campground, but it's one of the best I've ever stayed at. Outside of Durango, away from the road, all you hear is the river running by," states one visitor.

Clean facilities: Cabin guests frequently mention shower and bathroom cleanliness as important factors. At HTR Durango Campground, formerly Lightner Creek, guests appreciate "Showers and bathrooms are well maintained. Office hours are a bit quirky, but checking in was easy with our paperwork ready for us outside."

Wooded settings: Cabin locations around Bayfield typically feature pine and aspen groves. A visitor to Blue Spruce RV Park & Cabins shares, "We stayed at blue spruce for a week while working remotely which required good cell coverage. We have Verizon and despite having no service on the drive to blue spruce, once we arrived the bars lit up! This campground was great, nice clean grounds, shaded pines every where."

What you should know

Cell service varies: Connectivity fluctuates significantly in canyon and mountain settings. At Vallecito Resort, "Cell service sucks with Verizon up here and WiFi available near office area only," according to one guest who stayed for three days.

Seasonal operations: Most cabin facilities in the region operate from May through October. A visitor to Blue Spruce RV Park notes, "We enjoyed our nights stay. Quaint. Clean. Easy check in and check out. Wish we could've spent more time in the area."

Winter conditions: Cabins with limited insulation may be uncomfortable during cold weather. A camper at Mesa Verde National Park shared, "There were lots of sites in mid May probably bc it is cold. We left a night early bc we're not prepared for below freezing."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Several cabin locations offer swimming areas for children. At Pagosa Riverside Campground, "We got a great spot by the little lake on the property. You can rent paddle boats, swim & fish in it if you want. There is a nice walking path around it & the river that you can also park near."

Playgrounds available: Some facilities include play areas for children. At Oasis RV Resort and Cottages, a visitor notes, "The campground was relatively small so nothing was too far away. Laundry facilities were nice. Lots of showers that were private stalls. Lots of activities to do."

Bring sleeping bags: Most cabin accommodations require guests to bring their own bedding. At Durango North-Riverside KOA, a guest mentions, "Cabins have a single and a bunk, power, porch light, picnic tables and firepit. Office has firewood."

Tips from RVers

Weather preparedness: Mountain weather can change rapidly, especially at higher elevations. A visitor at Lightner Creek Campground advises, "Great camp sites for pull thru, back in and tents. Several cabins, bathrooms & showers also available. Campground goes dark by 9:00PM."

Kitchen supplies: Pack accordingly for limited cabin kitchen facilities. A camper at Oasis RV Resort observed, "They have so much for you and especially your kids. They had an ice cream station, outdoor movie watching area, pool, playground and other things. You can order breakfast and go to the trailer where it's cooked."

Local provisions: Stock up on supplies in larger towns before arrival. "Nearby Walmart and shopping center. About 20 min drive from Historic Downtown; about 5 minutes from Anytime Fitness gym," explains a guest at Oasis RV Resort regarding Durango shopping options.
