Canon Bonito RV & Fisherman's Club offers full hookup sites near Antonito, with 50-amp electrical connections and sewer hookups for motorhomes and travel trailers. The park operates seasonally from May to mid-October at an elevation of 8,100 feet, providing level sites with adequate room for large rigs. Cool Sunshine RV Park in Alamosa, approximately 30 miles north, features paved roads with gravel sites, complete hookups, and gated access. The sites accommodate big rigs but are positioned relatively close together. "Sites are very close to each other" with "green grass between and around park. Flat gravel roads and deep camp sites there are pull through down center of park," according to one camper's experience.

RV travelers should prepare for varying amenities across regional parks. Most offer sanitary dump stations, showers, and restrooms, though several reviews note proximity to train tracks at some locations, causing noise disruption for overnight stays. Cellular service is generally good throughout the area, with parks like Canon Bonito offering WiFi and reliable Verizon coverage. Weather conditions vary significantly by season - summer temperatures reach comfortable mid-70s during the day with cool nights in the 50s at higher elevations, while spring and fall bring greater temperature fluctuations. Many parks accommodate pets, though specific pet areas and restrictions differ by location. For those exploring further, RV sites in nearby Chama, New Mexico provide alternative full-hookup options within a reasonable driving distance.

      Questa Lodge & RV Resort

RV park with a campground feel

Nice park nestled at the foot of the mountains and on the banks of the Red River. Nicely landscaped with two ponds and a river walk. Location is great for visiting Rio Grande del Norte NM and the Wild Rivers Recreation Area. Just north of Taos too. Nicely shaded, level sites with full hookups. Nice picnic table and grill. Might be a little tight for big rigs, but my little Casita was quite happy. Very friendly folks in the office. Clean laundry and restroom. My site backed up to the river and the sound of the rushing water was the perfect lullaby.

      Columbine Campground (NM)

      June 2025

We had a blast staying here. 23 ft travel trailer Water from hydrants only, no connections, no dump, and they clean vault toilets Hiking trails from the campground Host was very knowledgeable and helpful

Some sites are short, very few are level, some have a steep slope. Good shade and sun mix , mature trees, nice creek flows through the campground , it’s very pretty and relaxing. The loop to the left side near the host is more level and can handle bigger RVs but overall this is not a big rig campground. Some rigs could not get level…….

Lots of places to explore nearby.

      We will stay again

      Del Norte City Park

      Only One Night Stay Allowed

This is an interesting spot to stay the night. It is right on the river and there are 1-5 sites with a playground, bathrooms, bbq pit, and a dump station. I'm not sure who takes care of this park but they have done a great job!

It is not pet friendly so keep them on a leash and walk them off property.

It is a free site but you can only stay 1 night max. It is not for tents but it will fit RV's and campervans just fine. Maximum RV length is 35 feet.

The best thing about this site is that it is within walking distance of Three Barrel Brewing Company! Excellent beer and a legit pizza oven!

Canon Bonito RV & Fisherman's Club

      Love the location.

This is my type of park. Located in a beautiful valley giving away to peaceful nights. At an altitude of 8100 feet I enjoyed pleasant days 76° and cool night 56°. Pet friendly park with WiFi and good Verizon cell service. Restrooms are still closed due to Covid 19. Took a day trip to Great Sand Dunes. Pass Port American card got me 50% off one night.

      Alamosa KOA

      Friendly, Beautiful KOA in Alamosa

The Alamosa KOA was chosen by our family because we like to have the option for swimming at the end of a hard day of play in the National Parks. We made our reservation for our site in March, a mere three months before our mid-week, June 7 arrival.

This KOA has a nice sized heated, outdoor pool with reasonable hours, closing around 8:00 PM. The pool temperature was warm enough for even the adults to slip right into it. There is also a fantastic playground with updated equipment, including an elevated tunnel system that ends with safety slides. When you have a small child who loves to play, especially a special needs child, this is a big deal! Other amenities include showers and laundry facilities (we did not use either but they looked nice). Wi-Fi is advertised, and the signal is available, but was not even fast or reliable enough to load photos from Instagram or Twitter. Streaming would be out of the question, but it would probably suffice for checking email.

One of the more unique benefits offered at this KOA include on-site Hunt Brothers Pizza and breadsticks. Not only can you get hot, fresh pizza here, made to order, but they will deliver it to your site! In addition, they deliver wood and ice. This site also offers a weekend pancake breakfast (seasonal).

The RV sites were leveled very well, and they have both 30-amp and 50-amp sites available. There are small shade trees scattered throughout the camping area, but they are still quite young and small. I read some previous reviews that felt the sites were too close together. Although there was little privacy, we have certainly had less room between sites than we had in Alamosa. Perhaps with slide-outs it might be more compact, but our little Starcraft fit in just fine. In addition to RV sites, there are tent sites and camping cabins available.

Our take-away from Alamosa KOA: The view from the campsite and the kindness and helpfulness of the hosts, the Martin family, make this a return-trip campground for sure! Any questions for us about this site? Leave them in the comments below!

      Alamosa

      Secluded and clean

Beautiful spot, shared with one other truck a few spots away. Clean enough portapotty. Fire rings and picnic tables at every spot. Gravel road from both directions is choppy but ok. Can only go up to 30mph without bouncing too much. Worth it. Tent and pull through spots. No cell service.

      Mosca Campground

      Nicely planned campground

Mosca was located inside the San Juan Wildlife Refuge, close to Sand Dunes National Park. Loop A has power, loop B was closed for the season, all covered picnic tables to protect from prevailing wind and sunlight in the summer, fire rings, basketball court and toilets with handicap accessibility available. Loop C was open. Dumpsters and dump station available. 2 bars of T-Mobile with LTE

    Guide to Antonito

RV camping near Antonito, Colorado offers access to high-elevation sites typically at 8,000+ feet. The region's summer season runs from May through mid-October with temperatures cooling significantly after sunset, often dropping 30+ degrees from daytime highs. Many campgrounds in the area provide river access, with the Rio Chama and Rio Grande offering fishing opportunities during seasonal stays.

    What to do

Fishing the Rio Chama: Access prime fishing spots from Sky Mountain Resort RV Park in Chama, where "each site is spacious with plenty of room to move around" and the grounds are "nestled in a grove of Cottonwood and Spruce trees next to Rio Chama" according to camper Kathy C.

Soak in natural hot springs: Visit Sand Dunes Recreation in Hooper where "you'll want to stay an extra day" with "discounts for the hotsprings when you camp" as noted by Eli M. The facility includes "a large outdoor pool and a couple of smaller pools" with a special "Greenhouse pool [that] is 21+ for an additional $3."

Explore hiking trails: Stay at Woods & River RV Park in Del Norte where guests enjoy "plenty of trails to walk the dogs" and the campground features "beautiful trees in the fall and great sidewalk that loops around and down by the river" according to reviewer ammon L.

    What campers like

River sounds for sleeping: Campers appreciate riverside accommodations where you can "watch a skyful of stars and then fall asleep to the sound of the river" at Woods & River RV Park, which features "grassy opening a stone's throw away from a bend in the Rio Grande" according to Suzi F.

Wildlife viewing: At Roadrunner RV Resort in Red River, campers enjoy how "deer come in every night" and the park is "tucked in a canyon with a stream running through it" as described by Pamela R., who noted the park "feels like it's deep in nature."

Clean facilities: Cool Sunshine RV Park in Alamosa earns praise for being "a very clean spot with multiple amenities. They even have an exercise room, grill area, dog area, nice covered patio areas for chillin'" according to Teressa J., who called it "brand spanking new!!"

    What you should know

Train noise impacts: Several campgrounds in the area sit near active rail lines. Cool Sunshine RV Park has "active train tracks right next to the park" making it "nice except for the trains" according to Michael M. Similarly, Rio Chama RV Park in Chama is near tracks where "the train whistle is deafening and will rattle your teeth."

Weather variations: High-elevation camping means significant temperature swings. At Canon Bonito RV & Fisherman's Club, camper Joseph W. experienced "pleasant days 76° and cool night 56°" at "an altitude of 8100 feet."

Cell service quality: Connectivity varies by location with Taos Monte Bello RV Park offering "wifi [that] was better than average the entire time, it was a little spotty at times but we were consistently able to stream and upload large videos without fail" according to kristin S.

    Tips for camping with families

Child-friendly pool options: Sand Dunes Recreation offers specialized swimming areas where "the pools are extremely kid friendly, and there are greenhouses with 21+ soaking and bar" as noted by Elizabeth H., who added "we get a weekend away for about 80 bucks for two nights and swimming, and we can bring our kids and dog."

Playground amenities: Woods & River RV Park features a "fun kids area with playground and treehouse with zip line" making it "great place to stay: pretty & kid friendly" according to ammon L.

Budget-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with included amenities like Sand Dunes Recreation where "camping is 20 bucks a night and you get half off camping when you camp here" making it affordable for families.

    Tips from RVers

Level sites for big rigs: Rio Chama RV Park in Chama provides "full bathroom & laundry facilities" with "mostly RV sites, some tent sites" that are "beautiful well maintained campgrounds" according to Joan S., who noted it's "probably one of the best in New Mexico."

Water system considerations: Watch for unusual water systems, especially at natural hot spring locations. At Sand Dunes Recreation, "if you have an rv and hook up to the water, it is fed from the hot springs so the water is always very warm" which meant one camper "didn't get to test out our hot water heater at this location!"

Gate systems and access: Several parks offer security features like Monte Bello which is "gated with a passcode which offers nice assurance" while Cool Sunshine RV Park uses a "gate coded bathroom and showers" system where the staff provides "our welcome packet taped to office door with all others info about park."
