Best RV Parks & Resorts near Lakeside, CA

Several RV parks surround Lakeside, California, providing convenient access to San Diego attractions while offering full hookup options. Oak Creek RV Resort in El Cajon features big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Lake Jennings Park, operated by the local Water District, offers both partial and full hookup RV sites with good separation between spaces. Circle RV Resort provides concrete pads with brick patios and includes 50-amp service, though sites are notably close together. "Sites are concrete with a brick patio. If you have a pull through you get a grill," notes one reviewer, though they mentioned tight spacing between units. Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay stands out with 197 sites including premium "Elite" full hookup spots that feature gas fire BBQ grills and outdoor furniture.

Reservations are essential for most parks in the region, particularly during peak travel seasons. Many RV campgrounds in the area maintain gated access with security codes for added safety. Cell service varies significantly - while Circle RV Resort offers good connectivity, Thousand Trails Pio Pico has limited to no cell reception. Dump stations are available at all parks, though their locations and accessibility differ. One traveler at Circle RV Resort noted, "Laundry is with your debit card, but wicked expensive, $3.75 wash, $3.75 dry." Most parks accommodate pets with designated dog areas, though quality varies from small artificial turf spaces to more substantial runs. Highway noise affects some locations, particularly those near Interstate 8, which runs adjacent to several El Cajon RV parks.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Short and to the point

It’s a nice Rv resort. Big rig friendly pull through sites. Went Veterans Day weekend 2021 and the weather was perfect. Short walk to the water, De Anza Cove. The beach is a dog friendly after 4 p.m.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

Tamarisk Grove Campground — Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    Beautiful desert campground

Cool campground, quiet but busy with day use visitors and hikers, host available with lots of info at kiosk.

A bit pricey at $35/night. No hookups available, no dump station. RV max length is 21 ft. Hike/bike spots $5/per person, day use fee is $10.

No water here for drinking, but there are spigots throughout the campground. Showers available, pay via token.

Just about no cell service here. Very nice short loop trail just across the street, bursting with flowers in the spring.  Plenty of room to park your vehicle (even big rigs) outside the campground along the road.

Guide to Lakeside

RV parks near Lakeside, California sit at elevations between 400-900 feet in the foothills east of San Diego. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through September, while winter nights can drop to the 40s. Cell service varies significantly between campgrounds, with some offering strong connections and others having limited to no reception in canyon areas.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Ramona Oaks RV Resort, the small catch-and-release pond provides easy fishing access. "I did catch a few sun fish" in the on-site pond, notes one camper who stayed in spot 21 near the water.

Beach access: Mission Bay RV Resort offers convenient bay access within walking distance. "There's a path that goes along the bay that is about a mile long," explains a reviewer who appreciated the proximity to water activities.

Local transportation: Several Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay campers mention the excellent bike paths connecting various areas. "Walking, biking, paddle boarding, boating, fishing all within the bay. Pacific, Mission, Ocean Beach areas and Bay Park are easy to get to by bicycle or Uber," writes one visitor.

Water recreation: Fiddlers Cove RV Park provides various water equipment rentals. "Kayak, boat, SUP available for rental. Easy access to all of San Diego," notes a reviewer, making it convenient for exploring San Diego Bay.

What campers like

Security features: Many RV parks maintain controlled access for safety. At Mission Bay RV Resort, "There is security at the front of the campground to wave every car into it. They are super nice and usually have a fire going at night."

Pool amenities: Escondido RV Resort maintains a clean, heated pool area. Despite facing "challenging weather conditions with heavy rain and hail from an atmospheric river, everything continued to function seamlessly- from the electric hookups to the water supply," reports one satisfied guest.

Recreational facilities: Ramona Oaks RV Resort offers multiple on-site activities. "They do have a nice playground for the kids," mentions one visitor, while another notes the availability of "a pool, spa, playground, barn, RV storage, laundry, restrooms with showers, catch & release pond."

Location convenience: Mission Bay provides excellent access to San Diego attractions. "Very close access to all of San Diego. Right off of the 5 for easy access," shares a reviewer who appreciated the central location during their monthly stay.

What you should know

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects sleep quality at some locations. At Ramona Oaks RV Resort, tent sites are "very close to the main road that all night long you hear semi trucks and rice burners with their loud exhaust driving down the windy road."

Utility costs: Laundry expenses vary between parks. At Mission Bay RV Resort, facilities are available but one reviewer noted, "There's a nice basketball court and clean bathrooms. There is a gated pool and hot tub."

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies significantly between parks. At Mission Bay RV Resort, a long-term visitor found that "The phone service was non-existent, and the wifi didn't reach our spot. Apparently after speaking with other residents, it doesn't really reach most of the park. T mobile, ATT, And Verizon's phone service all are very poor throughout the park."

Spacing between sites: Circle RV Resort has compact sites with limited privacy. "Not a lot of room to move around," notes one reviewer, while another explains, "All in all an Ok place if you aren't actually spending your time there."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Ramona Oaks RV Resort offers dedicated children's facilities. "They do have a nice playground for the kids," reports a visitor, though they also noted that "There wasn't a lot of kids out like i thought there would be like when i used to go camping as a kid."

Swimming options: Mission Bay RV Resort provides pool access with security. "There is a gated pool and hot tub, we never used it since we just went to the beach/bay. Every time we walked by, it was empty!"

Wildlife awareness: Keep food secured from local wildlife. At Mission Bay, "Raccoons do come and will go through [trash], so make sure it's closed right!" warns a camper who stayed monthly at the resort.

Activity planning: San Diego RV Resort offers varied recreation options. "Definite parking lot vibe... Good for riding bikes. Also lots of kid friendly activities, like arts and crafts etc.," explains a reviewer who appreciated the programming despite the urban setting.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Vacationer RV Park, site quality varies significantly. "Some sites are nice and others are...not so nice. Pull-thru sites are well kept. Sites closest to entrance on the left are the nicest it seems," advises a full-time resident who stayed for two months.

Extended stays: Several parks offer monthly rates for longer visits. "We did a monthly stay… about $500 less than the campground right next to it," reports a Mission Bay visitor who found value in the extended-stay option.

Security codes: Most RV parks in the area maintain gated access systems. Ramona Oaks RV Resort "has a coded security gate which changes monthly," according to a reviewer familiar with their procedures.

Setup space: Campsite dimensions vary between parks. At Ramona Oaks, one camper in a tent trailer found they "had plenty of room to set up an outdoor sitting and cooking areas" at their assigned spot near the pond.
