Best RV Parks & Resorts near Cleveland National Forest

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV resorts operate near Cleveland National Forest with full hookup services. Pechanga RV Resort provides 50-amp electrical connections, water, and sewer hookups on concrete pads suitable for larger motorhomes. Golden Village Palms RV Resort in Hemet maintains year-round operation with big rig access and full utility connections. Pala Casino RV Resort accommodates travel trailers and fifth wheels with 50-amp service, sewer hookups, and picnic tables at each site. Vail Lake RV Resort offers water and electric hookups but no sewer connections, requiring use of the onsite dump station. "Space 49 is small. The park is hilly. They didn't give us the right spot we needed when we made our reservations," a visitor commented about Escondido RV Resort.

Advance reservations are essential during winter months when snowbirds frequently occupy many parks. Most resorts maintain sanitary dump stations for guest use, though Lilac Oaks Campground and several others have limited pull-through sites that accommodate larger rigs. Cell service remains consistent throughout most park locations, particularly at casino-adjacent properties like Pechanga and Pala. Pet owners should note that all reviewed parks allow pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Sites positioned near Interstate 15 experience road noise, particularly at Escondido RV Resort where highway sounds affect certain sites. Seasonal rate variations occur across most properties, with premium pricing during holiday periods and winter months when northern travelers seek warmer camping conditions.

    Mission Bay RV Resort

    Short and to the point

It’s a nice Rv resort. Big rig friendly pull through sites. Went Veterans Day weekend 2021 and the weather was perfect. Short walk to the water, De Anza Cove. The beach is a dog friendly after 4 p.m.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Thousand Trails Palm Springs

    Lovely TT RV Resort!!!

The is a beautiful Thousand Trails RV Resort in Palm Springs, California! The park is large, very spacious and so clean! The gorgeous Palm trees are a little bit of a parking hazard, but they were here before we were! 😊 And besides, they are so beautiful to look at every day. The park feels like a day on beach with white sand to park on in most spaces, towering Palm trees, and brightly colored tropical flowers. What a treat in the winter! We are here in November and December and daytime high’s are in the low 80’s. The park is split in half with one side 30 amp FHU and the other half 50 amp FHU. For TT members, there is not an additional charge for 50 amp. Quite a deal! There is plenty of room to get out and walk in this park, along with a nice dog park, playground, billiards room, swimming pool and spa, horseshoes, 8 pickle ball courts, many laundry rooms and restrooms, and community recreation room. The surrounding mountains ranges are pretty amazing, too. This park is close to it all in the Palm Springs area and everything is within a short drive. Joshua Tree National Park and the Salton Sea is just over a half hour away. The Thousand Trails Palm Springs RV Resort is perfect and we will definitely be visiting again!

    Shadow Hills RV Resort

    Urban Glamping during Covid

Shadow Hills RV Resort is a stellar urban RV resort with all the amenities. Full hookups, daily trash pickups at each site, cable tv, large level pads with privacy hedge, small dog parks scattered throughout, gated security, nice restrooms w/ showers (free). We were visiting family who were just a short bike ride away. Can be extremely windy here. Desert X environmental art installations are nearby.

    Thousand Trails Palm Springs

    Concrete Condo Camping

A well managed, well-kept park. Plenty of 50-amp sites, which usually means BIG rigs, are all back-in. The mature date palms and tight sites makes parking and manuevering diffecult for big rigs. Very lively community; lots of people out, kid playing. Proximity to Interstate 10 and railroad tracks makes it a bit noisy. But, it's NOT too bad. Plenty of TV stations along with 5G cell service. It's not in the rules so, I believe I'm allowed to wash my rig.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

Guide to Cleveland National Forest

Cleveland National Forest visitors can access multiple RV campgrounds within 40 miles of the forest boundary. The region experiences summer temperatures reaching 90-100°F while winter nights drop to 40-50°F in lower elevations. Campers should prepare for significant elevation changes with certain areas rising above 5,000 feet.

What to do

Pool activities available year-round: The heated pool at Rancho Jurupa RV Park provides swimming options regardless of season. "Beautiful views all around Sunrise, Sunset and Night sky. Sights of all kinds of birds like hawks and herons. Water park and mini golf for kids," reports Xochiquetzal G.

Bird watching opportunities: Many campgrounds feature water features attracting diverse bird species. "Lots of families with children, fishing for catfish in the little lake which is shaded with trees and plenty of tables to picnic by the lake," notes Jody R. about Rancho Jurupa.

Casino entertainment access: Multiple campgrounds offer shuttle services to nearby casinos for evening entertainment. At Pala Casino Spa Resort, "Park guests have full access to everything the casino has to offer, including its pool too," explains Berton M. "Within 30 min of the park, there are plenty of hiking trails and wilderness to explore."

What campers like

Spacious camping sites: Many RV campgrounds feature generously sized spaces. At Pechanga RV Resort, "Pull-through sites have a little room not so close to neighbors. Buddy sites are available," notes Dan M. The concrete pads accommodate larger vehicles comfortably.

Clean facilities: Regular maintenance is common at RV parks near Cleveland National Forest. "Very clean and nice staff. Always a very pleasant stay," Patrick B. shares about Pala Casino RV Resort. "The grounds are layed out great. Its located close to alot of attractions," adds Michael H. about Escondido RV Resort.

Resort-style amenities: Several parks offer amenities beyond basic camping. Wilderness Lakes RV Resort provides "the pool, watching the ducks in the pond, and the kids loved the basketball court," according to Carolina. "They even have cabins to rent," notes Tom W.

What you should know

Reservation requirements vary: Booking policies differ significantly between parks. "We were lucky we didnt have to leave, we got a permanent spot," mentions Julie I. about Lilac Oaks Campground. Other facilities require significant advance notice.

Cellular connectivity considerations: Cell service varies throughout the region. At Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, "We stayed In spot 338 and had absolutely no cell coverage for our Verizon phones," reports Time4Dirt. Similarly at Tucalota Springs, "Limited or no internet service, no cell phone service - so if you need to contact friends or family think about these facts," advises Janice T.

Weather variations: Temperature fluctuations occur seasonally. "Despite facing challenging weather conditions with heavy rain and hail from an atmospheric river, everything continued to function seamlessly- from the electric hookups to the water supply," John H. shares about Escondido RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for children: Several campgrounds feature water recreation options. "Second time here and we're enjoying it. It's hot but a fire haze has blocked the sun a bit also the water pad is so fun even for grown ups," shares Sara H. about Rancho Jurupa RV Park.

Pet-friendly facilities: Most RV parks accommodate pets with dedicated areas. "Nice Pool, kids playground and dog park great!" Milagros B. notes about Pala. For families bringing pets, check specific park policies regarding containment and waste disposal.

Entertainment options: Family-oriented parks provide various recreational facilities. At Vail Lake RV Resort, "You can rent golf carts that make wandering the park really fun! There's three pools, mini golf, activities for kids," mentions Jerusha V.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Prepare with appropriate leveling equipment. "The sites are pretty large, gravel but not level. You better bring your leveling blocks," advises SmallRVLifestyle V. about Vail Lake RV Resort.

Hookup variations: Not all parks offer identical connections. "The spots were very and there was not any grass for our dogs. We moved to Shadowhills RV Resort and loved it," shares Todd C. about Palm Springs Oasis.

Electrical capacity matters: Check amperage availability when booking. At Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, "They don't have enough 50amp sites and not all of them are always working," explains David N. "If you're a 30amp rig, you'll love it here, need 50amp as long as you don't need both A/C's you'll love it too."
