Best RV Parks & Resorts near Boulevard, CA

Several RV parks surround Boulevard, California, offering varied options for motorhome travelers. Stagecoach Trails Resort in nearby Julian provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups including 30/50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Thousand Trails Oakzanita Springs in Descanso operates year-round with partial and full hookup RV sites, featuring 30 amp service and accommodating larger rigs. Ocotillo RV Resort, located northeast of Boulevard, maintains 174 sites with full hookup capabilities and both 30 and 50 amp electrical options. Sites at these parks range from back-in to pull-through configurations with varying pad surfaces. "The sites are good size, clean, with full hookups," noted one RV traveler at Oak Creek RV Resort in El Cajon, where concrete pads and 50 amp service accommodate larger motorhomes.

Cell service varies significantly throughout the region's RV campgrounds. Mountain locations like Sunrise Highway RV Park experience limited connectivity, while valley parks typically offer stronger signals. Most RV parks in the area remain open year-round, though summer temperatures can exceed 100°F in lower elevation locations. Dump stations are available at nearly all parks, with some offering on-site pumping services for an additional fee. Navigation to certain mountain RV parks requires careful planning due to narrow, winding roads with occasional steep grades. Pet-friendly policies are standard across most RV parks near Boulevard, though specific breed restrictions may apply. Propane refill services are limited, with Oak Creek RV Resort and Circle RV Resort in El Cajon among the few offering this convenience. Advance reservations are strongly recommended during winter months when snowbirds frequently fill these parks to capacity.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

Tamarisk Grove Campground — Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

    Beautiful desert campground

Cool campground, quiet but busy with day use visitors and hikers, host available with lots of info at kiosk.

A bit pricey at $35/night. No hookups available, no dump station. RV max length is 21 ft. Hike/bike spots $5/per person, day use fee is $10.

No water here for drinking, but there are spigots throughout the campground. Showers available, pay via token.

Just about no cell service here. Very nice short loop trail just across the street, bursting with flowers in the spring.  Plenty of room to park your vehicle (even big rigs) outside the campground along the road.

    Leapin' Lizard RV Ranch

    Very clean and friendly

Staying here for the fall, winter, spring season. The facilities are very clean with a beautiful pool and spa. The rates are reasonable especially if staying long term. It’s mostly quiet although there are off road vehicles around they’re not too irritating. There are occasional fireworks. It feels very safe here. Lots of shade.

    William Heise County Park

Forest and Mountains just a couple hours from the city

Sweet campground with pines trees and a mountain feel. Table and fire pit at each site.

Hiking available walking distance from camp, trails leading out of camp. Family friendly environment. Can get busy in the summer, so be sure to leave it just as beautiful or better than before you arrived.

Guide to Boulevard

RV parks near Boulevard, California provide diverse camping options within the eastern San Diego County region. This desert landscape sits at elevations ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 feet, creating stark temperature variations between seasons. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing at night while summer days regularly exceed 100°F, particularly in lower elevation campgrounds.

What to do

Hiking nearby trails: Visitors at Thousand Trails Oakzanita Springs can explore multiple hiking paths in the surrounding Cuyamaca mountains. "I love it up in the mountains. Some amenities were closed, but at least the pool was open for 2 hours 4 times a day, you can play mini golf, but bring your own putter and balls," notes one camper.

Water activities: For water enthusiasts, Fiddlers Cove RV Park offers marina access with equipment rentals. "Clean and great views... there is a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from," according to a recent visitor.

Off-road adventure: The Ocotillo area provides off-road vehicle opportunities with rentals available. One camper at Ocotillo RV Resort mentioned, "We were able to rent a quad for the day. It was nice and quiet at night and everything was well maintained."

What campers like

Pool facilities: Multiple campgrounds feature swimming pools, but Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay stands out with additional amenities. "Great pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well," notes one reviewer.

Concrete pads: Level, solid parking surfaces are valued by many campers. A visitor at Circle RV Resort mentioned, "The sites are concrete with a brick patio. If you have a pull through you get a grill."

Secluded options: Campers seeking quieter locations appreciate certain parks. One visitor at Stagecoach Trails Resort commented, "Beautiful location, secluded, lots of space to get a big trailer in. It's off the beaten path, staying here for a few days, really like it!"

What you should know

Cell reception challenges: Connectivity varies significantly across the region. A visitor at Thousand Trails Pio Pico noted, "Cell service is non-existent, though they of course can't control that... You won't have the best cell coverage but if your looking for a quite getaway from society this is the place to be."

Mountain road access: Many campgrounds in higher elevations require careful driving. A reviewer at Thousand Trails Oakzanita Springs warned, "Large rigs, beware. Access roads are narrow, hilly, AND curvy. But, it CAN be done. Coming in from the south on Hwy 79 (the only road in) warns that 40' vehicles and longer, are prohibited."

Distance considerations: Some parks are further from attractions than their descriptions suggest. As one camper at Thousand Trails Pio Pico observed, "If you're coming here to visit San Diego it is quite the trek into the city, to the beach, or to anything of note... Unless you're ok driving a total of 2 hours to something interesting and back."

Tips for camping with families

Activity centers: Choose parks with dedicated recreation areas. Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay offers "an arcade for the kids. There is also a comfort station with a playground and horse shoe pits."

Swimming options: Pools provide essential cooling during hot weather visits. Pio Pico RV Resort features swimming facilities, with one camper noting, "We enjoyed what they had to offer though, the putt putt, pools, hike, store, activity center and youth center!"

Seasonal planning: Family trips require careful timing due to temperature extremes. Summer visits to lower elevation parks can be extremely hot, while mountain locations may experience freezing temperatures in winter.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Not all sites offer complete services. A Pio Pico visitor cautioned, "We were under the impression that the entire campground had full hook ups. Only the south side has full sewer, water, and electric hook ups."

Site selection strategy: Choose sites carefully based on location within each park. At Circle RV Resort, one RVer noted, "Sites (sorry I don't know the numbers) closest to entrance on the left are the nicest it seems. Everyone who stays in those sites have newer, better maintained RVs."

Laundry facilities: Available services vary greatly between parks. One camper at Circle RV Resort mentioned, "Laundry is with your debit card, but wicked expensive, $3.75 wash, $3.75 dry."
