    Sonoran Desert RV Park

    Well maintained and very friendly

Important: If you plan to arrive after hours you must call ahead so you can get the gate code. They gave us a temporary spot that was pull thru due to the time of our late arrival. Then at noon they escorted us to our site to set up for the duration of our visit. I included an images of daily, weekly, and monthly rates for 2023 and full list of amenities and the winter activities. There are also deluxe sites available. This camp ground is pet friendly with a dog park area and offered daily planned activities. We participated in game night, line dancing classes, aquatic aerobics in the heated pool, and the New Years party. The showers are very clean and the laundry room was immaculate. The sites have full hook up 30/50 amp and sites up to 100'x55'. They offer propane services. There isn't anything to do in the town.

    Sonoran Desert RV Park

    Great Experience

Our RV GPS and Waze took us right to this very nice campground(CG). Check-in was quick, and we were escorted to back-in site 503 with FHUs. The sites here are long and wide enough for our 40’ fifth wheel and F450 truck. The sites in our area were also decently spaced for a private CG. There was also room for an OHV if we’d brought one. The guest WiFi works pretty well with a download of 6.73 and an upload of.92. Water pressure was good at 50 psi, and we got 4 bars on Verizon. There are a few trees in the CG, but we had a clear shot of the northern sky for Starlink. They also have cable, but we didn’t use it. They had a very nice 4000 sq ft, sectioned-off dog park with two of the areas/corrals having grass. Behind the show/laundry/pool facility is where you drop off your propane tank for fills. They do not have a propane service that comes to the site. We were also impressed with their PETHouse sites where you have a private dog run. Their laundry facility was larger than most CGs of this size and it was very clean. There’s also a wash pad where you can wash your OHV or truck. Gilla Bend has a Family Dollar and a couple of small grocery stores plus eating establishments. You’re about 30 minutes from major amenities in Buckeye and an hour from Phoenix. We stayed here with friends for 4 nights and enjoyed ourselves.

    North Ranch

    Good for One Night

North Ranch is an Escapees RV park with large gravel lot and closely spaced sites. Full hook up with only 30 amp available. There is also another area for dry camping. This is a good place if just passing through and need to do some laundry and dump and fill and take a nice long shower. The sites are fairly close as most RV parks are, clean flat gravel sites. Nothing special but nothing much to complain about either.

Road noise was constant as was ATV use as many of the campers had them. Covid restrictions in place and a mask is required.

    Amenities:

2 laundry areas with washer dryers for$1.25/each open 24/7

Dog walk and fenced in dog park near the main road

Showers Cactus garden walking area- very beautiful and well care for

    Propane on site

    Recycling bin- mixed recycling accepted

    Garbage dumpster

Dump station(was closed when we were there)

    Exercise room

Back in sites are$23 for escapee members and$28 for non members. Pull through sites are a few dollars more.

Weak Verizon and AT&T with occasional streaming if you don’t mind waiting for buffering.

    Leaf Verde RV Resort

    Clean RV park

Easy to get to from the 10 freeway, good sized RV park w decent sized sites, park is kept clean, pool, Pickleball courts, cornhole area, dog park, huge laundry room, and the people are nice. Regular pull through spots are kind of like buddy spots as your doors face each other. Back in and deluxe sites are decent sized. Roadways are asphalt and large enough to maneuver bigger rigs through. All sites are full hook up w 30 & 50 amp electrical.

    Sonoran Desert RV Park

Very nice spread out park to relax for the night

We stayed here one night and would recommend it for anyone wanting to enjoy the night skies, having some distance between RV pull in's, and relax while driving cross country.

The staff was welcoming and showed us to our sites and ensured we hooked up with no issues.  Then, let us enjoy the night.

The dog run was great and well maintained.  We thought he pet rock cemetery was touching (passed on pets have rocks with their names on them laid out in a small memorial).

We had a pull through full hook up site.  The site was required minor leveling, but no need to unhook. Wifi worked great.  There was road and rail noise though.

We are not sure if there are really any local attractions.

Old Airstrip Camping & Staging Area

    Free and Beautiful!

We have a 4WD truck, so we were able to get past most of the RVs and toy haulers, but they all seemed like family friendly people! The burros are no joke! You can hear and see them all around you. We also heard a few coyotes right after dusk which was cool. We had our two dogs with us and just kept them on the leash so we had no negative cactus experiences... Overall, a really cool place to be even if you don’t have an OHV. We got in around 6PM and were able to find a secluded spot with a fire ring already there, no problem.

    White Tank Mountain

    Peaceful retreat

This park is so close to town, but far enough to get some quiet night sky! There are standard campsites and a more primitive camping area. The Willow Canyon site is big enough for a full length Sprinter, though the office says 16’ is the length limit.

Lots of trails for hiking, biking and horses. Brand new showers, restrooms and a dishwashing area. Dogs allowed too!

I’m on Verizon and only got a single bar in the park. The library is near the entrance if you need to get your WiFi fix!

    Great sites with great views!

Very quiet! Lots of hiking and bike riding trails with a bike course! Playground. Pet friendly. Very clean and friendly hosts. Close to fountain hills if you need anything in town. Close to town but very much felt like you where away on vacation no hustle bustle in the desert! The views where fantastic. Sites where clean and spacious a lot of space between each site for privacy! Will definitely be back!

    Monte Vista RV Resort

This park really lives up to its Name “Resort”

My wife and two mini-Daschunds stayed in a 40 ft Fifth Wheel. All the sites are back-in but all have concrete parking pads and patio. Gravel surrounds each campsite and we have noticed maintenance crews raking the gravel every other day. Close to all the fun stuff on the Superstition Mountains. This park is associated with a very large senior retirement village. All amenities you would expect and meticulously maintained. All the staff that we came in contact with was very nice and helpful. You can’t go wrong staying at this park

Guide to Waddell

RV campgrounds near Waddell, Arizona sit at elevations between 1,100-1,300 feet in the Sonoran Desert, experiencing summer temperatures often exceeding 110°F from June through September. Winter visitors dominate these parks from October through March when daytime temperatures range from 65-80°F. Most parks implement strict quiet hours from 10pm to 7am due to the density of sites.

What to do

Visit Lake Pleasant Regional Park: Pleasant Harbor RV Resort provides waterfront access to Lake Pleasant, with activities ranging from fishing to kayaking. "We stayed in the loop near the entrance. Quite loud with all the cars coming and going. Marina for boat rentals with a shuttle to take you back and forth," notes Bryan S. The resort offers a free shuttle service to transport your watercraft to the boat launch.

Play pickleball: Leaf Verde RV Resort maintains dedicated pickleball courts for guests. "Park is kept clean, pool, Pickleball courts, cornhole area, dog park, huge laundry room, and the people are nice," writes Dawn F. The courts are available on a first-come basis with equipment available at the office.

Golf at El Mirage: Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort features an 18-hole golf course on property. "This is a self described 5 star RV long stay park. It has Almost every amenity you can think of. The park is slowly being converted to all homes. 18 hole golf course on site and a bar and grill," reports Randall Z. Daily green fees range from $35-65 depending on season.

What campers like

Clean shower facilities: Many RV campgrounds in Waddell maintain well-kept bathroom facilities. "Clean bathrooms, great lounge with a library, pool," says Trinity R. about Leaf Verde RV Resort. The shower buildings typically require access codes provided at check-in.

Multiple camping options: Pleasant Harbor RV Resort offers various camping styles to match different preferences. "There are several different RV/Camping options at Pleasant Harbor Marina / RV Resort. 1) In the resort with Full Hookups 2) Out on the 'flat' with just water and power (dump station on site) 3) Out on the 'flat' with no hookups. (can also tent / car camp)," explains Robert G. The dry camping area called "Vista Point" provides more scenic views than the full-hookup section.

Non-age-restricted options: Most RV parks in the Waddell area implement age restrictions. "Simple and affordable RV park. Pretty much the ONLY one we could get ahold of in the phoenix area that isn't 55+," shares Juliet L. about Sundial Mobile & RV Park. Cotton Lane RV Resort also accepts all-age bookings for short-term stays.

What you should know

Age restrictions: Many RV campgrounds in Waddell operate as 55+ communities. "Wanted to camp at a site but you have to be 55, I am 52 and wasn't allowed there. Unbelievable," reports Danielle R. about Pioneer RV Resort. Always confirm age policies when making reservations, especially during winter months.

Pet breed restrictions: Some parks enforce strict pet policies beyond standard size or number limits. "We went through the extensive application to stay a night and then called back and were told we could not have a reservation because our dog was 'mixed'. We were actually going to drop the dog off with family in Phoenix, but were told if we even enter the gates with the dog in our truck they would cancel our reservation," explains Jeff H. about Cotton Lane RV Resort.

Noise considerations: Parks near major roads or facilities may experience consistent noise. "There's a train that goes by at least five times a day and night and a freeway just a few blocks away. So it's not super quiet, however, the noise hasn't really bothered me either," notes Cheri H. about Sundial Mobile & RV Park. Pioneer RV Resort sits near a shooting range, with audible gunfire during daylight hours.

Tips for camping with families

Child policy verification: Verify children are permitted before booking RV campgrounds in Waddell. "When she showed up, she was told she would have to leave as children were not welcome. They should've caught this in the reservation information weeks in advance," warns Nadine A. about Encore Mesa Spirit. Call to confirm family policies even when booking online.

Swimming options: Pools provide relief from desert heat, particularly important for family camping. "The pool is refreshing and if you aren't into swimming there is a pool table, dog park and shuffle board to keep you busy," mentions Jen H. about Leaf Verde. Most park pools operate seasonally, with limited hours during winter months.

Family-friendly amenities: Some parks offer recreational equipment suitable for children. "We stopped here on our way westward and it was just what we needed. Although the sites are a bit close to each other than we prefer, the amenities were very well taken care of. The laundry facility was one of the nicest we've ever used! Pool was a great bonus for our family after a long day of driving," shares Mikki S.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: RV campgrounds in Waddell typically feature close site spacing. "The sites are rustic, they've water and electricity, no sewer. There's a dump station as you leave the park. No store, be sure you're well stocked with everything before you head out," advises Ted S. about Pleasant Harbor RV Resort. Most parks feature gravel pads with limited privacy between sites.

Last-minute options: Overnight parking without reservations exists at some parks. "Having let TT expire, we tried this out- no reservation (I did call ahead, but indeed, curb spots are unreserved), just show up at dusk or later, and this very nice, truly chill but soo ginormous resort let us park right in the front/middle for the night," explains Sara H. about Encore Mesa Spirit. These overflow spaces typically cost $27-35 per night with limited hookups.

Site access challenges: Larger RVs may face positioning difficulties at some parks. "This is a huge park. 1365 sites. Crammed in pretty tight, but fairly clean and very nice staff. Most of the sites are pull thru so that's a bonus," notes Debbie H. When making reservations with big rigs, request specific sections designed for larger units to avoid tight maneuvering.
