    Bama RV Station

    Good For Quick Overnight Stay

Literally right off the interstate at Tuscaloosa. Much lower noise level than I expected. Definitely a parking lot, without trees. We are in site 9, pretty level gravel site, electric and water hookup only. 2 dump stations are available, 2 dog parks. 30 dollars a night. Mostly long term parking. No firepits or picnic tables. Check in by phone, no office.

    Corinth Recreation Area

    Perfectly Designed for RV Newbies!

Loved this park! It was our first trip in our new Travel Trailer and it couldn't have gone better. We stayed at Yellow Hammer site #9 easy pull through with plenty of room. Not only did all the sites have amazing scenery but the roads were well maintained. Full hookups and AT & T cellphone coverage good enough for working from Trailer. Verizon cellphone coverage didn't work here. Each site fully equipped with fire ring, picnic table, and lantern poles. Wood available for purchase from host.

Beach & Bath houses were closed due to COVID-19

We spent a lot of time walking with our kids on the trails and riding scooters around the campsite roads. Nature trails were extremely well kept with great views on the water

Best site is Yellow Hammer #17

    Deerlick Creek

    Awesome little campground

Nice level concrete pads with awesome shade. Bath house stayed clean. Nice 1/2 mile asphalt bike/walking trail. Hiking trail with hills and valleys skirting the lake. Boat ramp with easy access to the lake. Convenient access to Tuscaloosa for supplies, eating or just a change of scenery. Some site are smaller than others and some are pull through. Highly recommend.

Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina

    One and done

The view is fantastic if you are lakeside- but it stops there. Most rentals are along one row and a couple of the lakeside sites. Sites are very unleveled with minimal gravel but almost all have a 6x9 concrete pad. No pool, no fire rings, spotty wifi and frequent brown outs on power. Both shower points smell horrible but appear clean otherwise. Lots of long-term vehicles. People are friendly and pets are welcome.

    Cherokee Campground

More of a Long Term Living Area

Most of the pads were filled with long-term residents. The owners were very nice. The rate was reasonable. Our gravel pad was not wide enough to be a) level and b) slide/awning out at the same time. The electric hook-up was at the opposite end of the pad from the water and sewer hook-ups. Some neighbors were friendly, others were a bit suspicious of us as interlopers based on how many times they walked past our area. Overall, would only stay again in a pinch.

    Clear Creek Cove RV Resort

Long term camping with a family atmosphere

This is a great campground that has ONLY long term camping so you really get to know your neighbors. The power is not included but the prices are very reasonable.

Our lot is spacious, gravel pad with a cement patio.

    Oak Mountain State Park Campground

    Updates please

At the regular campground, there’s only 30amp connections. Some have sewer and some not. There is no camp wifi. Swimming is quit a distance from campground.

The campground at the stables are pull through and 50 amp and full hookups.

    Thousand Trails Hidden Cove

    Bring your boat

This RV park is right on a lake, but a bit away from anything else. If you have any sort of boat, kayak, paddle board, bring it! There is hiking about an hour away at the Bankhead National Forest.

You can pick your spot when you arrive. I like that.

A and B sections are the original sections. C section is brand new with 50 amps hookup. All the big rigs there.

I was on C74 with a great backyard overlooking the hills.

Bathhouse is brand new and squeaky clean. You can see that almost no-one uses the campground shower because one of them doesn’t have a curtain to separate your dry clothes from the water. And neither of them have a caddy or any spot where you can put your soap.

Pool was not open when I was here in April which was a shame. It was hot enough. I would have enjoyed a swim, especially so we there is not much else to do. I don’t have a boat yet. 🙁

    A decent Thousand Trails campground.

I had no reception with Verizon but my AT&T hotspot had good reception.

    Sunset RV

    Bright light and road noise

Stopped for an overnight on our way home to Atlanta from a trip out west. Not much of a park. Most sites are long term or semi permanent. Only 6 available for regular RV. Water, 30/50 amp electric & sewer There is a small laundry room The office wasn’t open but we had reservations and had received an email about our site and directions. WiFi was poor. It is right off of I-20 so there was lots of road noise all night. There was a very bright vapor light above our site that lit up the whole area. There is a small dog walking area.

Guide to Sumiton

RV campgrounds near Sumiton, Alabama offer convenient access to Smith Lake and Bankhead National Forest. The area sits at the southern edge of the Appalachian foothills with elevations ranging from 300-600 feet above sea level. Cell service varies dramatically throughout the region, with stronger signals closer to Jasper and Birmingham corridors and weaker coverage in forested areas and along lakeshores.

What to do

Hiking in Bankhead National Forest: Located just northwest of Sumiton, the forest features numerous waterfall trails accessible from nearby campgrounds. "The campground has hiking trails on the property if you don't have time to visit Bankhead NF. If you're in the area or wanting to spend time in Bankhead NF I'd recommend checking this Bama Campground & RV Park out," notes Jennifer H.

Boating on Smith Lake: The deep, clear waters of Smith Lake provide excellent boating opportunities. "This RV park is right on a lake, but a bit away from anything else. If you have any sort of boat, kayak, paddle board, bring it!" advises Mara S. about Thousand Trails Hidden Cove.

Stargazing in rural settings: Limited light pollution in the area creates excellent stargazing conditions. "Huge field with little light pollution to stargaze. Very friendly host. Would Recommend," writes Chris about his experience at Bama Campground.

What campers like

Privacy and quiet: Many rv campgrounds in Sumiton and surrounding areas offer peaceful settings away from urban noise. "Great campground if you like peace and quiet. Its in the middle of the country side near Bankhead Forest," says Steve T. about his stay at Bama Campground.

Lakefront access: Direct water access ranks highly among camper priorities. "Nice location on Smith lake. Sites were roomy. Well managed," notes Ronald R. about Togetherness Works RV Park, adding that "Wifi weak cel signal weak."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses and laundry facilities receive consistent positive mentions. "Nice clean laundry and baths. Nice location on Smith lake. Sites were roomy," reports Ronald R. about Hidden Cove.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds have different amenities available depending on time of year. "We were here during winter, so there wasn't a lot going on. This is a nice campground that is adding a lot of new sites," explains Jason E. about his stay at Hidden Cove.

Internet connectivity challenges: Cell and wifi service vary significantly between locations. "I had no reception with Verizon but my AT&T hotspot had good reception," reports Mara S. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Supply access: Grocery stores and camping supplies require advance planning. "Nearest Walmart is Cullman which is 45 mins away. Wouldn't recommend staying here if you prefer to be closer to the city but perfect if you want to be in the middle of the woods," advises Nick & Allyssa S. about Hidden Cove.

Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: Several campgrounds offer dedicated children's areas. "We stayed close to the park, mini golf, and horse shoes since we have a child. The wood on the playground needs to be replaced and the grass really needed cut," notes Kara S. about her experience at Hidden Cove.

Water activities: Swimming and water recreation options vary by location. "This RV campground is in the parking lot of the Hoover Met Complex. Easy to navigate in and out of each site. In addition to the Hoover Met sports complex and sports arena there is a new brewery within walking distance of the campground," writes Ryan P.

Alternative entertainment: Indoor options for rainy days exist at some facilities. "The clubhouse was very nice and had a lot for kids to do as well," mentions Kara S. about Palomino RV Resort, noting that despite some maintenance issues, "everyone is very friendly and it's a nice quite campground."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling needs: Prepare for varying site conditions across rv campgrounds in the Sumiton area. "The pads are very uneven and there are just not many amenities. Very close to sports fields though," notes Chris S. about Hoover Met Complex RV Park.

Overnight considerations: Several locations cater specifically to travelers passing through. "Just a big parking lot but had full hookup and clean," reports Maureen L. about her overnight stay at Hoover Met Complex.

Long-term vs. short-term sites: Availability may be limited for certain site types. "Thought there would be more spaces. Sadly every spot you might be able to see the lake from was already taken by what seems to be someone living there full time," explains Larry T. about Safe Harbor RV Park.
