    Sugar Sands RV Resort

    Our favorite Orange Beach campground

Very clean. Spacious sites with level concrete pads. Full hook ups. Only 8-10 minutes to the beach.  Very clean bath houses. Easy to navigate campground road with tons of room to back into back-in sites. Pull throughs also easily assessible. Nice pool. Check in easy and quick. Employees very friendly. Will be back next month. Camp store on site. They also have a few rental tiny houses and rv's. Trash pickup at your site each morning. Cable TV and great WIFI.

9/6/20 update: all things mostly the same, bath house closed from 8pm to 8am and WiFi not nearly as good as past visits.

Military Park Pensacola Naval Air Station Oak Grove Park and Cottages

    Quiet

RV sites are concrete pads with full hook up (power, water, sewer, WiFi, and cable). Most sites are a little closer together than we are used to. No fire rings at the RV sites. Tent sites do have fire rings, but no power or water. Bathhouse is large and very clean. Laundry facilities available. There is a community center building with TV, tables, and fire ring that hosted a dirty Santa and nightly BYOB happy hours while we were there, as well as a NYE Party planned. Staff and camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. Walking distance to the Pensacola Lighthouse and National Naval Aviation Museum. Dog friendly beach right at the campground. They do not allow swimming at this beach, but still fun for letting the dog run, fishing, and hanging out. Swimming beach and pool are located at other areas of the base. Reservations are site type, not site specific, but after talking with the staff they said they’d try to accommodate site requests the best they could when making reservation.

    Magnolia Farms RV Park

    Quiet, Friendly RV Park

We are fairly new to the RV life - Andy tried to help us back in, and then decided he would just do it for us. He was so helpful. Everyone has been helpful. The laundry facility has an app that lets you know when your clothes are done, so you can walk back to your camper and wait instead of sitting with it. 3 or 4 activities are planned every month. There are some permanent residents, but enough transient to feel like you are with travelers. We chose it because it was close to our daughter, but would choose it again. Monthly rate is cheaper than daily rate. There is a fire pit for everyone to share, but no fire pits or grills for individual sites. Wooden decks for each site are nice. Grassy back in and some pull through- all level. Someone is always tending to the grounds and doing maintenance on the sites. We’ll be back!

    Gulf State Park Campground

    Beaches and bikes

Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Current camping spot on the canal. Ours is a nice pull thru with electric and water. Almost 500 sites here from tent to big rig friendly. Spacious sites, some with foliage, some with Lake or canal views. Grills but no fire pits. Right now there's a shortage of usable bath houses because of hurricane damage repairs in progress. Good wifi, local TV, and cell service. Close to stores and dining. Free access to adjacent pier. Great coastal access. Free use of bikes. Lots of great paved and boardwalk trails. Gators, snakes, armadillos and birds reside here.

    Sun Outdoors Orange Beach

    Lots of concrete

This is an all Inclusive RV Resort! Lots of spaces, but very few RVs when we were there. Sites are all concrete with easy access hookups. Not much shade. 2 pools, one adult only. Dog Park, laundry, tennis courts, gulf cart rental. They even have a business center. Walking trails connect to Gulf State Park. They do a lot of planned activities which can be annoying. Long term or short term sites available.

Military Park Pensacola Naval Air Station Oak Grove Park and Cottages

    Our First FAMCAMP Stay

To get to Oak Grove use the West Gate via Blue Angel PKWY. If you come in the main gate, and don’t thoroughly know your way through the base, you can easily end up at the old Seabees gate area where there are blockade weaves that are not RV friendly.
We checked in at the little campground(CG) office at the entrance then backed in to site 25 with FHUs. We couldn’t find the cable connection so checked with the office. The nice lady working the office came over and looked all around the utilities post where the newly run cable is supposed to reside. She finally found it out front by the cement pad. We ran the cable under the trailer and the very wide variety of channels worked fine. This is an older CG with lots of trees so satellite would be iffy. This CG has it own entrance to the beach that did not have a lot of people traffic during our 5 nights stay. There are a combination of back-in and pull through sites with 50& 30 AMP service. The sites tend to be fairly close to each other. Several reviews state spacious sites, but compared to campgrounds we’ve stayed in, only a handful of sites such as deluxe sites 46-51 come close to spacious. The water pressure was very good plus we got 4 bars on Verizon. A bonus is that the CG is close to the Naval Aviation Museum and flight line where the Blue Angels launch and practice. We went out to the beach where we could see the Blue Angels practice on Tuesdays& Wednesdays when they are in town. After the regular duty day and on weekends the park was quiet. There are multiple trails and areas to walk your dog or ride your bike.

    Luxury RV Resort

    Great level spots

The park great and very easy to get into (35’ 5th wheel). It was very full while we were there but the spots were set up to feel like you still had your own space from your neighbors. Room to park 2 cars. 2 separate spots to tie into the sewer which was nice. Level concrete pads with picnic tables. Hosts where very helpful. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Would stay again.

    Chickasabogue Park - Temporarily Closed

    Perfect for local weekend getaway

Chickasabogue is a bit run down but it’s a great spot to get away from the bustle of daily life. There’s a sports field, water access, and several short, easy paths to hKe. It’s pet friendly and family friendly.

Guide to Bay Minette

Campers visiting Bay Minette, Alabama have access to several outdoor recreation areas within a 30-mile radius. The region features a mix of river systems including the Mobile-Tensaw Delta and Styx River, with elevations rarely exceeding 200 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures often reach 90°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop to the low 40s, allowing for year-round camping opportunities.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The lake at Citronelle Lakeview RV Park offers clear water fishing, especially for bream. "We camped in site 17 in a 40' motor home and had plenty of space. The lake is beautiful and water is clear," notes camper Jd J.

History exploration: Visit the preserved historical areas at Blakeley State Park. "Great park with a ton of historically preserved areas from the 1800's. Bugs are not nearly as bad as I expected. Lots of wildlife including deer that come very close," reports John W.

Golfing excursions: Several campgrounds provide golf course access, making it convenient for RVers who enjoy the sport. "We loved Citronelle and will definitely go back regularly. Whole family enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and walking," shares Lisa N.

River activities: The Styx River offers water recreation options with several access points. "The river bank is gorgeous and we even spent a dinner out next to the river," describes Chloe F. from The Retreat RV Campground, who adds that tubing services are available, though prices can reach $30 per person.

What campers like

Spacious campsites: Apalachee RV Campground at Blakeley State Park offers well-spaced sites with natural surroundings. "Big camping spaces- semi private. Kayaking trails all around in the park and local. Close by to big city life but camping in the wild yonder," notes Christie M.

Clean facilities: The bath facilities at All About Relaxing RV Park receive high praise from campers. "Bathhouse has 4 guest bathrooms like you would find in a house. Each has a sink, vanity, toilet and very large shower. By far the nicest I have ever seen at any campground," shares a visitor.

Family-friendly amenities: Jellystone Park offers activities specifically designed for children. "The kids loved all of the Saturday activities. Campsites have a fire pit, so we made s'mores. They have a store with everything we needed, which was really nice," reports Jaimee D.

Peaceful settings: Many campgrounds near Bay Minette provide quiet surroundings despite their proximity to urban areas. "Very pretty camp ground. Very close to the Styx river where you can get cooled off," says Eugene D. about The Retreat RV Campground.

What you should know

Site leveling requirements: Several rv sites near Bay Minette, Alabama require preparation for uneven terrain. "Make sure you bring leveling blocks, some of the sites are fairly level while other are not. Our site sloped down towards the river and we needed extra blocks to place under our tires and stabilizers," advises Chloe F.

Access considerations: Some campgrounds have tight access roads that may challenge larger rigs. "The sites are VERY close together and there are a lot of trees. They call them 'pull through' sites but there isn't enough room to pull through and turn onto the road," reports Tom about The Retreat.

Reservation timing: Winter months bring "snowbirds" to Gulf Coast camping areas, making advance bookings essential from November through March. "Great campground. Very much a campground and not a boring parking lot. Beautiful area," notes Marsha J., who identifies as a "Snow Bird."

Campground layouts: Riverside RV Resort offers a more organized setting with concrete pads. "Great, friendly staff, very helpful. WiFi good enough to stream. Cell a bit spotty. Close enough to I10 to hear it in the background," explains Kevin H., noting the proximity to highway noise.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park provides multiple water features for children. "3 year old loved the splash pad, pool and seeing Yogi bear make an appearance. Pool was clean and in good shape," shares Joe O.

First-time fishing spots: Several locations offer easy fishing access for beginners. "This was our first campground experience and we thoroughly enjoyed it! The lake is full of bream and each of my kids caught their first fish, definitely a memorable trip," explains Ashley P.

Scheduled activities: Check campground calendars for planned events. "We had a blast taking our kids for the first time camping. This is a great place to go if you do have kids," says Rachel M. about Jellystone Park, which offers crafts, hay rides, and group s'mores events.

Walking trails: For families who enjoy nature walks, Blakeley State Park provides good options. "I camped here for one night in the improved tent campsites at bartram campground. The site had trees to hang my hammock, a fire ring, water, and a picnic table," shares Amy B.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When booking rv camping options near Bay Minette, request specific sites based on your rig size. "Our camper is 35 feet travel trailer, and it was quiet tight getting into our spot, and it will be for most current spots, we would not have been able to park where we were had there been a camper next to us," advises Chloe F.

Hookup verification: Confirm electrical service details before arrival. "The campground website currently that all electric campsites are 50amp which they are not, if you need a 50amp site you will have to call the office to ensure you can secure one," reports a camper at The Retreat.

Cellular connectivity: Signal strength varies significantly between campgrounds. "WiFi good enough to stream. Cell a bit spotty," notes Kevin H. about Deer Creek RV Park, where visitors appreciate the convenience of "very conveniently located off I-65 and the park is very well kept."

Concrete pad availability: For easier leveling, seek out parks with concrete pads. "Nice people, concrete pads, full hookups. The river provides entertainment and a place to cool off on hot days. Several pull thru spots, most are back in," notes Steven about Riverside RV Resort.
