      Cotton Hill

      Great campground, excellent senior price

It’s not often that I award a campground five stars, but this one is well deserving of those stars. We loved everything about this campground and were content to hang out at our site and hike the park, never wanting to leave. The campsites are well spaced so you don’t feel like you are right on top of your neighbors. We stayed in one of the full hook-up, 50-amp sites. The best thing is the price– only $28/night and just $14 for those holding a senior Interagency Park Pass which is great for a full hook-up site. Roads are easy enough to navigate by any size RV. All sites have a fire, picnic table, small wooden table and a lantern hook. Some sites are sloped and you might scrape the back of your RV. Small laundry which had one wash machine and one dryer. The restroom was clean and showers were free. The campground is not really close to anything- about 30-minutes from the town of Eufaula. About 5-10 minutes away is the Fort Gaines where there are a couple of restaurants, gas station, and small market. We were happy to just hang out at our campsites and enjoy the view. There is a small hiking trail that was a nice walk.

      Kolomoki Mounds State Park Campground

      Summer means gnats

Beautiful spot but the gnats were unbearable. Definitely wouldn’t recommend coming in the summer. The facilities were clean and staff was friendly. Also you will have zero phone service so will not be reachable. Recommend downloading an offline map and sharing park phone numbers with family in case of emergency.

      Robert Fowler Memorial Park

      Rural, Secluded, Peaceful

Great little riverside town park. All the basic necessities and nearby gas, groceries, and a couple of restaurants. Walk the paved mile long path along the levee or the dirt trail along the riverside. Great for a peaceful stopover.

      A-Okay RV Park

Quiet, shaded, full hook-ups, and LONGHORNS!

Great little spot for our overnight trip. Hosts/owners were very friendly and even took us on a golf cart ride to the their beautiful longhorn cattle! Nice store with many of the things you’ll need during your stay. Beautiful Alabama sunset too!

    Guide to Cottondale

Camping opportunities near Cottondale, Alabama extend beyond established RV parks to include state parks with diverse natural features. Most campsites within a 45-minute drive offer year-round availability due to the region's mild winters, though summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity levels. The terrain throughout the region consists primarily of pine forests and creek watersheds, with elevation changes rarely exceeding 200 feet.

    What to do

Explore underground formations: Florida Caverns State Park offers guided tours of limestone caverns with stalactites and stalagmites. A camper shared, "The caverns are a must see in this park. Come early before they open as there is a line. The spring is closed as is the campground and some trails due to hurricane damage" (Jenn B.).

Fishing opportunities: Kelly Creek RV Park maintains a catch-and-release fishing pond with dock access for campers. According to a visitor, "They even have a catch and release pond. Laundromat and private bathrooms were very clean too. Its also a mile off the hwy so it's so quiet" (I'm out).

Nature trails: Take advantage of walking paths at Omussee Creek Park with its creek access and bird watching opportunities. A visitor noted, "From covered hiking trails (do bring a machete!), splendid little canals and streams that eventually connect to the Chattahoochee as well as some pretty splendid bird watching from the Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher and American Goldfinch to the never boring Blue Jay" (Stuart K.).

Swimming: Falling Waters State Park Campground provides a swimming area at its lake with dedicated restroom facilities. One camper mentioned, "The park itself has a small but nice swimming area at the 'lake' with its own restroom house" (Randi P.).

    What campers like

Quiet camping environments: Several campgrounds offer peaceful settings away from highway noise. One camper at Kelly Creek RV Park noted, "Its also a mile off the hwy so it's so quiet. We will make this our go to traveling through ozark/Dothan Alabama" (I'm out).

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathrooms and showers as a highlight. A visitor to A-Okay RV Park shared, "2 Family-Style Bathrooms With Showers, Laundry Facilities, Bagged Ice, Propane, Wi-Fi Accessible, ATM machine on site" (Amanda C.).

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds offer generously sized sites with good separation between neighbors. A camper at Dothan RV Park reported, "Park is clean and growing. Pull thru sites and back-ins with level pads. Sites are a little tight. All sites have FHU" (Mike H.).

Natural water features: Florida Caverns State Park offers unique water experiences beyond typical campground amenities. One visitor recommended, "Highly recommend the 45-minute drive to Econfina creek, we rented a canoe and did the 8-miles to see 7 springs" (Randi P.).

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds have different booking policies. At Rosemont RV Park, a visitor explained, "We had called the day prior to see if they had a Harvest Host spot available and were told yes and the owner explained how it worked. We were asked to call about an hour out" (MickandKarla W.).

Weather considerations: The region experiences high humidity during summer months. One camper at Family Time Campground advised, "If you're out to kayak or canoe, get out either early or late, as the current during the middle of the day can be quite strong" (Stuart K.).

Waterfall conditions: Water features at certain parks are dependent on recent rainfall. At Falling Waters State Park, a camper noted, "Unfortunately, there hadn't been any rain during our visit, so the falls were dry, but the trails were still worth walking" (Randi P.).

Wi-Fi availability: Internet access varies significantly between locations. A visitor to Clean Park RV and Mobile Home Park commented, "Clean, quiet RV park with great amenities, fast WiFi and cable tv. Full hookups with 30/50amp electric and cable tv" (Adam H.).

    Tips for camping with families

A visitor to Ozark-Fort Rucker KOA shared, "FHU, paved and level sights, clean and updated bathhouse and clean pool, playground, dogpark, koi pond, horseshoes, cute general store with necessities and souvenirs" (L&A C.).

Swimming options: Several campgrounds maintain pools or swimming areas. A KOA visitor reported, "The pool came in clutch since it is very humid and hot over there. It was nice, CLEAN and refreshing. My kids are not too big so we had enough space to play backyard games" (Mika).

Educational experiences: Certain parks provide unique learning opportunities. A camper at Florida Caverns State Park shared, "Camping with a scout troop & it was awesome even though it rained. The caverns were just incredible & the amenities were great. Plenty of room to roam & setup camp" (Bridgit L.).

Budget-friendly meals: Some campgrounds offer special meal options. At Family Time Campground, a visitor noted, "On Sunday's this campground offers up 'all-you-can eat' pancake breakfast for $4 – you can't beat this!" (Stuart K.).
