According to one camper, "We stayed at a regular pull-thru site. These sites are very close together which was difficult to negotiate into with our fifth wheel." Most RV parks in the region welcome pets but enforce leash requirements and may charge additional pet fees.

    Curt Gowdy State Park Campground

    Beautiful Wyoming Camping

We visited Curt Gowdy when multiple fires were burning nearby, so all our pictures are tainted with smoke. This facility offers campers two lakes and several different types of sites. Some are full hook-up and others are no hook-up. We had the latter, but were so happy with our spot. The park is primarily composed of dirt roads. There are so many different types of sites, from those with several trees, lake side, open, or group spots. Water is available for filling bottles, but not campers. No dump stations are open here, but Wyoming has dump stations at its rest stops along the interstates/highways for free. Cell service is unavailable away from the beautiful visitors center. Our campsite sat by itself, on a ridge next to the furthest away lake. It was beautiful and a worn trail at the campsite ended at the water's edge where we could store our kayak in the trees for the weekend. A small beach allowed for chairs to be set up at this spot as well. The lake offers fishing and kayaking. The real draw, though, is the IMBA mountain biking trail system that weaves throughout the park. The trails are well-marked and maps are easy to follow. Hiking is abundant as well. This park sits near Medicine Bow National Forest and has similar typography with awesome rocks, evergreens, aspen and creeks. Hiking is a pleasure in this environment. Our campsite was pull-through with a fire pit and table. There was a fire ban (for obvious reasons) during our September visit.

North Park Campground — State Forest State Park

    Old KOA turned around!

This used to be a KOA campground that the state took back over and has refurbished. Brand new full hook up connection, connections, picnic tables, fire rings, gravel area with decomposed granite, shower house is BRAND NEW. So quiet and easy on and off the highway. Some highway noise but no semis and little traffic. Very little cell service- like 1 bar on Verizon. Would definitely come back. Little services so bring what you need. Walden is 20 miles down the road. We had a great pull through site with only one neighbor backing up to forest.

    Bellaire Lake Campground

    Peaceful, beautiful getaway!

By far my favorite campground but this is for the “in the woods” not flaming folks. Your rig will get dirty and it’s worth it! Beautiful well spaced and clean sites. Great views and great beginner rock piles for the kids to climb on. Definitely all the good and bad that comes with altitude. We had one night the moon was so bright it was daylight and the next night the fog settled and you couldn’t see your hand infront of you. Nearish to a cute little town but bring your own entertainment, hammock because this is a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors not a parking lot to hold your camper while you seek tourist hotspots. Lots of FFS and we could have fit our big rig (40’ toy hauler) in most of them except site 7 you have to back straight uphill and would be hard to hitch or unhitch anything over 20’ let alone leveling. Camp hosts are great! Bring cash ATM is 40 minutes round trip. It is a dirt road in but very well maintained. One small 20’ section is a good climb on dirt pulling a big rig make sure you have good tires. There’s a beautiful lake but posted no swimming. Fish were jumping out of the water and there’s nice docks to sit on. There is water but no threaded attachment to fill tanks so you must bring buckets or water jugs. Yes there are mosquitoes and humming birds and lots of chipmunks. Absolutely loved it but we do prefer remote non-glamping even with a big rig.

    Curt Gowdy State Park Campground

    Lots of Space Between Sites

As you enter Cheyenne there are plenty of signs directing you to Curt Gowdy State Park. Our GPS agreed with the park instructions to take us out of Cheyenne on I-25 then onto Happy Jack Rd, which leads you up the mountain to the State Park. The signage was less plentiful as we turned left and passed under the big Curt Gowdy State Park sign over the road. We followed the road up to the visitors’ center and registered then proceeded as told down to Tumbleweed pull-through site 24, which was water and electric. As we got into the Tumbleweed area, we realized our door would be facing the road and the utilities by pulling in that direction. So we decided to pull in the opposite direction, which we had to go back up and make a tighter right turn to get us back on the road to put us into the pull-through with utilities on the driver’s side. We were then able to pull into site T24 with no issues. This gravel site is at a bit of a downhill angle, but we were able to auto-level. The pad was plenty long enough for our 40’ 5th wheel and F450. The water and electric(50 and 30 AMP) were more toward the back of this pad, but we had no problem reaching to hookups. The water pressure was around 40 psi. We got 1 bar on Verizon, but there was a clear shot either north or south for satellite. In our case, north for Starlink. We had a cement pad with a concrete picnic table plus a nice-sized fire pit off to the side. We were not too far from the reservoir with a nice lake view from the right/door side of the site. We were here in the middle of the week and the park and campground were about 3/4 full, but by Thursday the CG was filling up and the reservoir much busier with boats and jet skis. We enjoyed our stay here to include some pretty good shore fishing for trout.

    Yellow Pine Campground (Wy)

    Decent Campground with Nice Views

We stayed 2 nights here in site 4. There were only 3 other sites occupied our 1st night (Sunday night.) Our site didn’t have a great spot for a tent but luckily we sleep on a platform in our 4Runner. Our picnic table was in rough shape but the fire ring was good. Some sites are back/pull in and some are pull through which looked to be big enough for campers. Most sites are out in the open with no shade or privacy while the ones on the outer edge have some small trees - more for separation from neighbors than shade or hammocking (we were sad about that, we had brought our hammocks.) The 2 bathrooms looked to be recently constructed and were clean. There are nice views of the hills around and close to a lot of national forest trails. Overall I would recommend.

Timber Creek Campground — Rocky Mountain National Park

    Beautiful campground

Loved this campground in Rocky Mountain NP! Full of new growth pine trees. Elk wondered through on some days. Depending on site, lots of privacy. Not for big rigs, but perfect for vans, tents and smaller trailers. Bathrooms clean, flush toilets. Only drawback to this stay - the dump station was already closed down for the season. Water was available. We found a dump station down the road in Stillwater Recreational area.

    Curt Gowdy State Park Campground

Beautiful park with great access to nature

Curt Gowdy State Park is a beautiful area with a lot to offer. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon, so it took a little time to find a good camping spot, but we eventually found a nice, semi-secluded site near the water. The park has plenty of vault toilets spread throughout, and the main visitor building has access to indoor bathrooms, a water fountain for filling personal bottles, a vending machine with a few soda options, and showers(about 50 cents for 3 minutes, if I remember correctly). We hiked several trails and saw lots of fishing spots definitely a great stop for anyone who loves outdoor activities. It was a little windy during our stay, but thats expected in this area. The campground itself is well maintained, and even though there is no dump station, there are water spouts(although they were turned off during our visit). What really stood out was the helpfulness of the park staff. During a sudden snowstorm that caused I-80 to close, we thought our propane might run out(it didn't), and weren't able to refill on propane because of road closure. We were able to move to an electric site for an extra$10 and the staff even loaned us a space heater just in case. We were very grateful for their kindness and support during an unexpected situation. Overall, a great state park with beautiful views, helpful amenities, and outstanding staff. We camped at Curt Gowdy State Park in a Travel Trailer.

    Glen Echo Resort

    Quite and relaxing

We have stayed here twice, our favorite spot is 43, it is a roomy spot next to the river. Campground is very peaceful at night. There are not that many spots due to long term camping. They are close quarter rv spots, but plenty of room behind campers for campfires. Be prepared there is no phone or TV signal due to mountains. WiFi is available, but you have to go up to the store. We love this place and will make future trips there. Sites are all full hookup.

RJourney Laramie RV Resort (formerly Laramie KOA)

    Nice park but tight spots.

We stayed at The Laramie KOA in August 2021. This is a FHU RV Park which offers a variety of sites including premium extra large pull-thru sites. We opted to save the added expense of the premium sites and stayed at a regular pull thru-site. These sites are very close together which was difficult to negotiate into with our fifth wheel. The sites are so close together that I had my neighbors sewer hose directly in front of my camp chair between my legs. 😳👎🏻 Next time we will opt for a premium site because this is a very nice, well maintained KOA with an excellent staff. There is a nice dog run here and lots of green space to walk dogs. We were able to receive mail here, also. All in all, we would recommend this park and enjoyed our stay here. Guide to Jelm

Dispersed camping options near Jelm, Wyoming extend beyond established RV parks, with several public access areas and forest service campgrounds within driving distance. The region sits at elevations between 7,000-10,000 feet with dramatic temperature fluctuations even in summer months. Nighttime temperatures can drop below freezing at higher elevations well into June.

What to do

**Fishing opportunities: Access to the North Platte River at Deer Haven RV Park provides excellent angling. "This place is just georgeous, surrounded by rolling hills and a river right out the front door, you can rent a bike and honestly stare at the breathtaking sky. Prone to storms so pack a rain jacket!" notes one visitor.

**Hiking near alpine lakes: Sugarloaf Campground offers access to numerous mountain trails. "Lots of hikes and lakes in walking distance," reports a camper. The Medicine Bow National Forest trail system connects to several small mountain lakes within short hiking distances.

**Horseback riding: Regional stables offer guided trail rides suitable for all experience levels. "The stables are managed separately but are directly across the road. Super friendly and reasonable rates for trail rides. Our 5 & 7 year old granddaughters were able to ride their own horses and had trail riders lead them," mentions a visitor to Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch.

What campers like

**Mountain views: Campers consistently mention the scenic vistas from North Fork Campground. "Very nice campground. As best I could tell, about 70 spots, but don't quote me on that. All of the sites are very clean with picnic tables and fire pits. They do have pit toilets as well. Cost is $10 per night. The Laramie river runs right next to the campground and is nice to listen too," reports a camper.

**Wildlife viewing: Early mornings and evenings offer opportunities to spot pronghorn, deer, and various bird species. At Colorado Cabin Escape and RV Park, one visitor noted, "Horses and pronghorn made for the perfect, quiet neighbors. Verizon 5G service was excellent."

**Stargazing: The minimal light pollution creates exceptional night sky viewing. "We bundled up and stargazed and felt so lucky to have detoured to this spot," shared a visitor to Sugarloaf Campground, highlighting the clear mountain skies common throughout the Jelm area.

What you should know

**Weather variability: Summer thunderstorms develop quickly, particularly in afternoons. "The wind was consistently 25mph+ the whole weekend, but the hiking and alpine lakes just off the campground were great," notes a camper at Sugarloaf Campground.

**Limited services: Many campgrounds have minimal facilities. "No firewood for sale from the hosts," mentions a Sugarloaf visitor, while another notes, "TONS of stumps everywhere, the cut parts and the part still in the ground, swarms of mosquitoes, and as a previous review said — constant strong wind."

**Elevation considerations: Higher elevation rv sites near Jelm, Wyoming require preparation for temperature extremes. "Got below 30 degrees at night so come prepared!" warns a Sugarloaf camper, while at Lake Hattie Public Access Area, campers note "No shade" conditions that can make summer days challenging.

Tips for camping with families

**Pack for temperature swings: Bring layered clothing for all seasons, even in summer. "Amazing location. Good trails. Water and clean toilets. First come first serve. Got there around 1 pm and around 6 out of the 16 spots still available. Filled up fast throughout the evening," reports a visitor to Sugarloaf, highlighting both the appeal and preparedness needed.

**Consider cabin options: For families with young children, alternatives to tent camping provide comfort during cold nights. "We stayed here for a weekend since we were married there the year before. It's a beautiful camping spot close to amenities. Felt like camping in a forest," notes a visitor to Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch.

**Water activities: Lake Hattie offers swimming opportunities in warmer months. "We stayed here at the lake. Camping limit is 5 days. Beautiful Mountain View, swimming and fishing. No cell phone service with Verizon. No running water has restrooms and lots of camp/ picnic tables," shares a visitor.

Tips from RVers

**Site access considerations: For larger RVs, select campgrounds carefully. "Big South is a small and quiet campground right next to the river but only 4 spots so arrive early," advises one camper, indicating the limited availability of suitable rv sites near Jelm, Wyoming for larger rigs.

**Water and dump planning: Many sites have limited or no hookups. At Sentinel Mountain RV, "The sewer receptacle is not threaded, so you'll need to otherwise secure your sewer hose," notes a camper, highlighting the need for proper equipment.

**Seasonal access restrictions: Road closures affect campground availability in higher elevations. "Only open a short window of the year due to being high altitude and road closes in the winter," explains a Sugarloaf visitor about mountain camping options near Jelm.
