Best Campgrounds near Camp Creek, WV

Camp Creek State Park in West Virginia anchors the regional camping landscape with three distinct campgrounds offering varied accommodation styles. Mash Fork Campground provides 26 developed sites including full hookup options for RVs, while Blue Jay Campground offers 12 primitive sites along a creek for tent campers seeking a more rustic experience. Nearby options include Pipestem Resort State Park Campground, Brushcreek Falls RV Resort, and Little Beaver State Park Campground, all within reasonable driving distance. The region supports a mix of developed facilities with electrical hookups, tent-only areas, and cabin rentals.

Seasonal operations vary significantly across the area's campgrounds, with some facilities operating year-round while others close during winter months. Little Beaver State Park Campground operates from April through October, while Blue Jay Campground at Camp Creek is open mid-April through mid-October. "Camp Creek State Park is well-managed and beautifully-maintained with an active foundation that raises money for cool stuff like the conversation fire pit with swings," noted one visitor on The Dyrt. Cell service can be limited in some areas, with reviewers mentioning Verizon coverage gaps at Mash Fork, though WiFi is available at some campgrounds. Bathhouse availability may be restricted in the off-season, making advance research essential for winter camping plans.

Water features prominently in the camping experience throughout the area, with many sites positioned along creeks. Campers frequently mention the soothing sounds of flowing water as a highlight at Blue Jay Campground, where most sites border a medium-sized creek. Several campgrounds provide access to waterfalls, with both Mash Fork Falls and Campbell Falls within short walking or driving distance from Camp Creek State Park campsites. Hiking opportunities abound on over 33 miles of trails within Camp Creek State Park alone. One reviewer described the experience: "The sites were very spacious and relatively private from other campers but the road was a few feet away with light traffic on the weekday." Fishing is popular, particularly in spring when Camp Creek is stocked with trout, making this an attractive destination for anglers.

    Babcock State Park Campground

Spacious campground. Near RiverGorge National Park

The facilities were clean and well maintained. Babcock State Park has access to trails, a scenic drive, grist mill, and souvenir store. WIFI is slow but there is a WiFi lounge at park store. No food store or restaurants nearby. Limited large rig sites and roadways are very narrow.

    Pioneer Village

    Convenient but Hilly

We only stayed for one night and this location is very convenient for this area when traveling Interstate 81. Easy access to pull through sites, needed one inch block on one side to level off. Rest rooms were so so, men’s room has one stall out of order. Grounds are clean and fair amount of spacing between sites. Needed extra hose to reach water spigot. But it is a hilly location. The access road in and out of the campground is a hill. Stopping at the office and you’re on a pretty steep incline. It’s on my list of repeat stops for this area.

Grandview Sandbar Campground — New River Gorge National Park and Preserve

    Great area!

This was near the water with pit toilets available but not in good condition. Areas to fish and good camping areas spaced apart. Friday night and there was only a few campers. If it’s full glade creek is four miles up the road and our personal favorite. So plenty of options and both great spots!

Glade Creek Campground — New River Gorge National Park and Preserve

    New favorite!

This area is our favorite we have been in all of the eastern states. So the sites all have fire pits and picnic tables and there’s tons of wood around to burn. There’s two pit toilet restrooms on both sides of the campground and a full area by the water for walk in tent camping. Boat ramp for anyone wanting to kayak and a big beach area to play in the water so perfect for my dog and kid. No one was around so we had the place to ourselves but each area is well spaced.

    Babcock State Park Campground

All the Amenities and then some!

We truly enjoyed our stay at this park. Its peacefully serene setting was exactly what we needed after a weekend long festival. Ya just can’t beat a free hot shower with great water pressure and affordable laundry facilities! Ya know?! Nice trails to forage and nearby Gristmill to top it all off. If we’d had the time, we would’ve stayed an extra night.

Creekside Campground — Hungry Mother State Park

    Great Spot!

Sites are a little close and sharp turns coming in. Pads are level, bathrooms are clean. Everything is kinda spread out as far as bathrooms houses or playgrounds for the kids. Really nice and quiet tho.

    Arrowhead Bike Farm

Great spot for National Park Access

Great campground adjacent to New River Gorge National Park. Within a short walk/bike to multiple biking and hiking trailheads. Close enough to bike into Fayetteville (a cool little town). Onsite bike shop with rentals and repairs, restaurant, and bar. A handful of full hookup sites and open field camping for rv/van/car/tents. $11 for the field and $50 for hookup when I was here last n September 2025. Easy online or in person booking and checkin. Friendly, helpful staff. Peaceful place to stay a few nights if you want to hike or bike in the park or check out Fayetteville.

Royal Oak Campground — Hungry Mother State Park

    Beautiful campground in the woods

We camped here over the weekend with our dogs. The campground was fantastic. All campsites are on platforms, which makes it very nice to set up your stuff. The sites have the usual amenities like a picnic bench and table, a firepit, and a lantern pole. The bathhouse was very clean and taken care of. There are several spigots with drinking water through the campground. The bathhouse also has a dishwasher station. There are multiple trails within walking distance. The park is very well maintained and clean. You can hike, swim, or rent a canoe.
We would camp here anytime again.
