Best RV Parks & Resorts near Steilacoom, WA

Several RV parks provide full hookup options in and around Steilacoom. Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor features 102 sites with 30/50-amp electrical, sewer, and water connections, operating year-round with gravel pads that accommodate large motorhomes. "The spaces are very close together, but there are a lot of trees and it's very well kept," noted one camper about the resort's layout. Washington Land Yacht Harbor in nearby Olympia offers back-in sites with 30-amp hookups, full sewer connections, and is open throughout the year, though some visitors report the hookups appear outdated and require extra hose length. Little Creek Casino Resort RV Park provides 50-amp service and full hookup sites designed for big rigs, with level concrete pads but no picnic tables.

Advance reservations are essential for most parks in the region, particularly during summer months. Several facilities like Angle Lake RV Park include amenities tailored for extended stays such as laundry facilities, propane filling stations, and sanitary dump stations. Cell service varies significantly between locations—Dash Point State Park campers report limited to no cellular coverage despite proximity to urban areas. Pet policies differ across facilities, with most allowing dogs but restricting them to designated areas. Winter RV camping remains viable as many parks maintain year-round operations, though some seasonal facilities like Cove RV Park operate only from April through October. Leveling equipment is necessary at several locations, with one traveler noting they "had to go find more leveling blocks to lift the trailer 5-6 inches" due to significant site grades.

    North Sound Recreational Vehicle Park

    Simple Urban RV Park

This is very much an RV park and not really a campground. Seems like a clean little park, but right in the middle of Lynnwood, so if you are looking for a rural setting this isn't for you.

They offer weekly and monthly rentals, so this is more of a long-term sort of place.

    Website: Northsound RV Park

    Requirements from their site:

    • Your travel trailer must be year 2005 or newer
    • Pet friendly(limit 2) not to exceed 25 lbs. Aggressive breed restrictions apply.
    • No conversion vehicles - sorry van and bus life people
    • No trailers larger than 35' long, ideally.

    Ike Kinswa State Park Campground

    Camping amongst the tall trees

This campground is on Mayfield Lake where the Cowlitz River flows into the lake. We were in loop D, which was the only open loop along with the cabins (cabins are loop C and attached to loop D). This is a partial hook-up loop. Full hook-ups are in loop A. The campground is heavily wooded which is really nice for shade, though it can make it tricky to get into a spot if you have slide outs. As we were on the outer part of the loop in a pull-through site, we had a view of the woods and quite a bit of space between neighboring sites. We could not see either of the neighboring sites while sitting by our campfire. There was a trail to the trash compactor next to our site, but it did not seem to be heavily used. The trash compactor is probably a good 1/4 mile down this trail by the dump station. It was very quiet at night, which was fantastic! Very good Verizon cell service. The day use area is out of the campground and across the main road. There is a playground and beach area. It would have been nice if there was a playground on the campground side of the park.

Cougar Rock Campground — Mount Rainier National Park

    Nice place

Nice campground on the SW corner of Mt Rainier NP. We were here in the off season, meaning that reservations are not taken and everything is FCFS. You stop at the ranger office at the campground entrance and you’re given a campsite. $20/night. Zero cell service in this whole area (but there was good cell reception and wifi at Paradise, and free wifi at the museum 2 miles down at Longmire).

There are water spigots at this campground, flush toilets, no showers, trash dumpsters, and glass, plastic, and aluminum recycling. Each site has a picnic table, bear box, and fire pit. The dump station has been non operational for several years and the ranger said she doesn’t think it’ll ever be fixed.

The length limit here is 35 ft for a motorhome, and us at 28 ft head to toe felt very big here. The Wonderland Trail hike can be accessed from this campground, just across the road. Lots of trees in this campground, and we struggled to keep our batteries charged via solar, though there looked to be enough open sky for starlink (we don’t have starlink so I can’t say). All the loops here in this campground are pretty similar in layout and landscape.

    Blue Sky RV Park

    Awesome park

We reserved a space for 1 night the day before. Great communication with Brett, everything went really smooth. The facilities are great and very clean, the park very quiet. There are a lot of big rigs parked there, some of the pm long-term as it seems. We enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again.

    Cedar Glen RV Park

great long-term or quick on the way

There are several long term campers here. The grounds are kept immaculate and they regularly update the sites.  They hang wreaths for the winter holidays. Lawns mowed weekly.

All are level gravel. All have grass area, some with patio pad. There is a dog walk area and they are currently creating a dog fenced area at the end orf the two rows.

A caretaker is on site and will often help guide rigs into the sites (all are back-in).

Close to Poulsbo (a cute, Norwegian heritage town), Seattle ferry via Bainbridge Island and just over an hour to the Olympic National Park via the Hood Canal Bridge.

    Lake Sylvia State Park Campground

    Hidden Gem

Set in a former logging camp above the town of Montesano, park life revolves around a large swimming and fishing lake. This site is super family friendly and pet friendly too.

There is a playground on site and TONS of old logging roses turned bike trails.

There are plenty of tent and RV sites and s few primitive sites for campers. There are showers a flushing toilets.

    Riverbend Campground

    Nice campground with friendly staff

Interesting the other review was for a first time out with their travel trailer!  Same for us!

We got site 106 which was the furthest one out, it was right along the river.  The site has a concrete slab and fit our Jayco 174BH perfectly.

This site does is a back in, but the slab is at a 90 degree angle from the drive.  So you will have to back your trailer around a corner if you plan to park it on the slab.  Didn't see other sites like this.

The campground did have a very small selection of items to buy, but mainly snacks.  They do fill propane tanks, but only during week days.

The site had water and electrical, but no sewer connections.  they do have a nice dump station.

The camp ground itself did have at least 2 pet areas neither are fenced so a leash is required, along with a playground for the kids.

We have Verizon and had no issues with cell signal at this campground.

Also, this is a private campground, so they have a guy that stands at the gate to open it when guests come arrive.

    Elkamp Eastcreek

    Best place in Washington state

This is the cleanest, most cared for camping site I have ever been to. The owners Tom and Brian, make your stay very enjoyable. They care about you having a great experience, whether you’re a first time camper or a seasoned camper. They have a great store with snacks, wine, beer, and local sourced goods. They have games you can use while you are there, like corn hole and board and card games, free of charge. Sites are large for travel trailers and motor homes, they also have tent and group sites. Trailer and motor home sites have power and water, there is a dump station you can use on your way home free of charge. The bathrooms are large and very clean, the shower is 4 quarters for 6 minutes, those of us who try to take a 3 minute shower in our rigs so we don’t run through all the hot water so our partner can have a shower without waiting for the water to get hot again it’s a blessing. In the evening Tom or Brian drive through the park seeing if anyone needs ice or firewood, if there’s not a burn ban, bring a propane fire pit for your camping experience. They also sell propane so no fears on running out. The best thing is you are under a large canopy of trees which helps to keep you cool even on the hottest days. There is a small creek to put your chair in and put your feet in the water. Our first year there we brought 4 other people, this year it was 28. We make Elkcamp our yearly get together. Family friendly and a great place to unwind. You’re only a few miles from mineral lake, bring your trunks, inner tube, or your paddle boards. I’d give it a solid 10 out of 10.

    Kanaskat-Palmer State Park

Nice & quick camping option from Seattle

We stayed 1 night here for the maiden voyage of our recently purchased travel trailer, which was nice since it's only about an hour away from our place near Seattle. Arrived Friday early evening and it wasn't busy at all.

The check-in process was easy, even though their reservation system was down at the time. Filled up w/ some fresh water at the dump station, which was clean and well maintained.

Campsites in the RV loop were spaced out enough with vegetation between them so as to provide some privacy. Our site had a pull-through driveway, 30amp hookup, a fire ring and picnic table. Bathrooms in that loop were pretty nice... heated and very clean.

Took a walk down to the day use area by the river, which was easy for us, but some portions of the trails closer to the river were slightly overgrown w/ a few obstacles, which could be problematic for some. Didn't see any kids play structures down there, which would be nice to have for families.

We heard a couple trains while there, but the noise wasn't too loud. Never heard the fire siren that they warned us about. Overall, it was a good camping experience for a quick trip and would return!

Guide to Steilacoom

RV parks near Steilacoom, Washington provide convenient access to Puget Sound waters and nearby attractions while offering varying levels of hookup options. Most campgrounds in the area sit at elevations under 500 feet, with typical summer temperatures reaching 75-85°F and winter lows around 35-45°F. Cell service can be intermittent at forested locations despite proximity to urban centers.

What to do

Waterfront access: From Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor, campers can easily reach waterfront areas. "Waterfront is right down the street. Costco, Home Depot, Albertsons and other shopping close by," notes Jacob P., highlighting the convenient location.

Stadium events: When staying at Enumclaw Expo Center RV Park, be prepared for occasional noise from the neighboring high school stadium. "It is situated next to a H.S. stadium so the game nights get a little bit loud but really not that bad," mentions Marque W. about the otherwise quiet park.

Casino entertainment: Little Creek Casino Resort RV Park offers on-site dining options. "Very nice hotel and casino with reasonably priced food at the cafe," reports Allen, while another camper mentions "the best seafood bar in the area" as a key attraction when staying at this location.

Hiking opportunities: Camp near Olympic National Forest for day hikes. "Nice location for hiking or boating in the Hood Canal area," shares a camper about Cove RV Park & Country Store, which provides a convenient base for outdoor activities along Hood Canal.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness varies between rv parks in Steilacoom, Washington and surrounding areas. "Bathrooms are usually found to be immaculate. The main bathrooms have a great 'spa' feeling to their design and make you feel like you are glamping," notes Brodie D. about Tall Chief Campground.

Helpful staff: Many campgrounds have attentive management. "We first arrived with only knowing the basic and Mike the grounds master was more than happy to help us park and hook up. He was super nice and answered all of our questions," shares Matt B. about their experience at Cove RV Park.

Tree coverage: Tall Chief Campground offers shaded sites. "It's super close (like 7 min drive) from one of my favorite coffee shops, Aroma Coffee Co. Try it! You won't be disappointed!" adds Brodie D., who also notes: "We love Tall Chief because it is super close to a lot of great spots around the Seattle region."

Extras and amenities: Some parks provide unexpected perks. "Camp hosts are great and made for a wonderful holiday. Free Saturday night ribs and chicken made a great surprise!" reports a camper about Cove RV Park, highlighting the social atmosphere.

What you should know

Site spacing: Campground layouts vary significantly. "Great camp site for all sizes. Mostly no sewer. But if you enjoy a little distance between sites without sacrificing camp size line up here," explains Richard D. about Tall Chief Campground.

Utility considerations: Many parks require additional equipment. "The sewer and electric, make sure you got enough tubes and extensions. All connections are in the back so imagine hooking up at a parking lot at the concrete stoppers," warns Joe C. about Washington Land Yacht Harbor.

Signal strength: Cell reception varies widely, even within the same campground. "Another thing that can be annoying is trying to find a site with good cell reception due to all the trees. They definitely have a few, but I would say arrive early so you can drive by all the sites while checking to make sure you have good reception if you need it," advises Brodie D.

Pet accommodations: Most parks welcome pets with restrictions. "Pet friendly, but not many attractions for children (no playground, no pool)," notes Joseph I. about Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor, indicating the park's limitations for families with young children.

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Choose parks with recreational facilities. "The pool, miniature golf, playground and basketball were great. Laundry facilities came in handy," shares Isabel G. about Tall Chief Campground's family-friendly amenities.

Space selection: At South Prairie Creek RV Park, site layout affects experience. "Pretty nice park for a quick stopover or base camp. No picnic tables and only a small outdoor area. Almost everyone at this campground just stayed in their campers all day," reports Katie O., suggesting families might prefer more spacious locations.

Age restrictions: Some parks have vehicle age policies. "It looks really nice but they don't allow drop-ins or vehicles older than 20 yrs," notes Madeline W. about Enumclaw Expo Center RV Park's restrictions that might affect families with older RVs.

Site privacy: Privacy varies between sites at the same park. "Very nice small park with basic amenities and large private or cramped sites based on what you choose and pay for. Some have fire rings. All with picnic tables but you will be sitting right next to your neighbors if you choose the sites in middle section of park," advises mary F.

Tips from RVers

Extended stays: For longer visits, inquire about monthly options. "Stayed 3 months for work, perfect beautiful, CHEEP CHEEP, not too good to be true, just right. All hook ups included. (Bring your dump tote!) easy easy easy dump station," shares David O. about Tall Chief Campground.

Parking considerations: Vehicle space varies by site. "Make sure you get a site that is large enough for both the RV and your vehicle as there is no extra parking. We picked a 50 ft site which allowed us to park the RV and still have room for our towed car," advises a camper about Little Creek Casino Resort RV Park.

Reservation requirements: Some parks have changed their policies. "Called and talked to the team at midway today inquiring about guests coming into town. They're a long term only location with 6 months or more as the minimum stay," reports Jennifer H. about Angle Lake RV Park, noting that shorter stays aren't available.

Airport proximity: For travelers flying in or out, certain locations offer convenience. "Close to the airport if you need to leave your RV for a bit and fly out," mentions Jennifer H. about Angle Lake RV Park's strategic location.
