"Every night, my husband and I would walk to the wildlife viewing platform to see lots of birds, or walk down by the river and see lots of elk and bald eagles," explains Amy & Stu B.
Hiking trails: Explore interconnected forest paths at multiple parks. Most cabin and glamping sites provide direct trail access. "There are several hiking trail loops but the most appropriate for us was the beach trail which is maybe 2 miles to the beach and back," shares Michael B. about trails at Dosewallips State Park.

"This campground is remarkable in the privacy between each of the camping spots, the bird life, the wild and deep forest vibes, and the walking trails," reports Brittany D. Year-round availability: Many glamping options remain open through winter. Even during colder months, facilities maintain services. "The only campground open in the winter at Deception Pass State Park is the Quarry Pond area. And even though the weather was wet and cold the campground was far from empty during our stay," writes Erica G.
Multi-use facilities: Kitsap Memorial State Park Campground provides event spaces alongside camping. "Very nice park for playground and a very nice venue building. A lot of picnic tables in the open and in the shade of trees," reports K D., highlighting the versatility of the facilities.
What you should know
Utility limitations: Many sites have partial hookups only. Electric and water are standard, but sewer connections are rare. "No sewer connections which can be a bummer, but the nice bathrooms make up for it imo," explains Brodie D. about Tall Chief Campground.
Noise considerations: Military operations may affect certain areas. Naval air bases create periodic disruptions. "Definitely worth a stay with its proximity to the beach, stargazing, hiking. The whole area feels magical... The only downside is the noise from the naval base nearby. You'll hear jets overhead on a regular basis," warns Will L.
Cell reception variability: Forest coverage affects connectivity. Plan for potential communication limitations. "Another thing that can be annoying is trying to find a site with good cell reception due to all the trees. They definitely have a few, but I would say arrive early so you can drive by all the sites while checking to make sure you have good reception if you need it," advises Brodie D.

Playgrounds: Select parks with dedicated children's areas. Multiple glamping locations feature kid-friendly installations. "Amazing kids area pirate ship. Great beach walk and good camp sites," shares Tanya B. about Fay Bainbridge Park.
Water safety: Deception Pass State Park Campground offers designated swimming areas suitable for younger children. "Cranberry Lake has a designated swimming area where the water is super shallow and just perfect for the kiddos," reports Travis D.
Group accommodations: Reserve large gathering spaces for multi-family outings. Some parks offer separated group sites. "Stayed in the group site with my daughter's American Heritage Girls troop. We had 22 girls and there was plenty of room. This is a huge group site. Has running water, a couple fire pits and a bunch of picnic tables," describes Bridget S.
Tips from RVers
Site selection: Request specific sites based on access needs. Backing into spaces can be challenging at certain locations. "RV sites 1, 2, 4, 9, and 11 will be easier to back in to. The other full hook up sites are 90° approaches," advises K D. about Kitsap Memorial State Park.
Power limitations: Prepare for potential electrical constraints. Many glamping options near Kenmore offer only 30-amp service. "Knocking another star as the majority of the sites are only 30 amp with antiquated posts. There are a few 50 amp sites but from what I saw they were all taken by RVers that are there on a more permanent basis," notes Derek & Alex W.
