First Trip Ever

The family and I were on the fence on if we wanted to start camping or not and then we found cape Charles. We rented a camper and headed out. Being that we knew nothing about trailer camping and basically showed up without anything we needed, the staff and community made it one of the greatest…

Beautiful park right on the river

This is a beautiful campground, right on the Chickahominy River. There are several sites right on the river, another bunch along the road, and a large field with more sites. These are in full dun, so they will be hot in summer! Those by the river are very nice, large, mostly lever, snd with full…

Perfect for us!

This place was relaxing and peaceful. It’s located on a peninsula with beautiful bay and creek views. You can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset. There is a little beach down from our site and our dogs enjoyed their first dip in the bay. The camp hosts Pat and Chet were wonderful and suggested a…

Not great for tent camping

The area is beautiful & the bathroom is good. But if you're tent camping, be aware that it is extremely windy here and there is nothing to block the wind so your tent will howl and keep you awake all night.

Great Tent Site

First time camping at this state park. Tent site was spacious and very shaded. We camped on the F loop which is tucked away. Site was a quick walk to the swimming beach and bathhouse. If you don't have bikes/don't ride a bike, location is pretty far from camp store and trail heads.

Loved that…

Beautiful Bwach Front Spacious and Secluded Site

This Campground is beautiful! The sound of the ocean from our site was amazing! We were up against the dunes and had a very private, gorgeous secluded site. Fire and Ice can be purchased on site. Almost all sites we saw offere unique space.

Wonderful getaway

Beach is gorgeous and clean. Sites are easy to back into and connect. Bath houses are clean but could use some bleach. Quiet at night. People were very friendly.
Would definitely visit again.

Comfortable stay next to beautiful beaches!

Loved the location - the beaches were surrounded by pine, wetlands, and tall grasses - it felt remote and not overdeveloped!

This campsite is comfortable! The provided insect screen kept us well protected in mid-sept. The hosts had extra supplies tucked under the table which is always a nice…

Merchant Mill Pond

This is our go-to campground since it’s only a few miles from our house. Great park and nice campground with plenty to do. The only downside is that they don’t have any hook ups and it gets pretty hot in the summer months.

So we arrived pretty late. Around 7pm because we had a late start. Unfortunately we didn't stay because our site was hike in and I thought I did drive in. So we ended up getting a hotel instead. The staff were very nice and very knowledgeable. I wish we could have stayed. Next year we will…

Loved camping right next to the beach

Very relaxing place. Loved camping near the beach. Some people may not like hearing morning music from the military base next door. We loved it. Nice bathrooms, and good showers. Surprising there was no place to put recycling. Check out for camping was 1PM, which is much nicer. Plenty of shade.…
