Enjoy the natural beauty of Virginia's Eastern Shore and the family-friendly fun of Chincoteague Island camping at our waterfront campground. We have a place for every type of camper to call home. You can get back to basics on a primitive tent site, sleep above the ground in a tree tent, try it before you buy it in an RV Rental, add a little luxury to your RVing with a deluxe patio site, sleep like an adventurer in a safari tent or get the ultimate glamping experience in one of our deluxe cabins or Island Bungalows. There are tons of amenities to keep you busy during your stay on Chincoteague Island. Take a dip in our pool, let the kids burn off some energy on our jump pillow or at our playground, take your pup to the dog park, or get in on the fun at the activities center. We also have a full slate of events and themed weekends, so there's never a dull moment. We're located in the heart of Chincoteague, so everything is at your fingertips. We're just one mile from the sandy beaches and wild ponies of Assateague Island National Seashore and great restaurants and shopping are just a short drive away. One of the island's premier attractions is just steps from the campground. At Maui Jack's Waterpark, you can cool off and relax in the lazy river or get your adrenaline pumping on twisting water slides. There's an area just for kids with fountains, tipping buckets and waterfalls and adults can lounge in a cabana or grab a cocktail and a snack from Keko's Bar and Grill.

The mainland portion of the park offers over 100 campsites, 49 of which are equipped with electrical hook-ups to accommodate tent or vehicle campers.

Each site is equipped with a camping pad, picnic table, fire ring and lantern post.

Three centrally located bath houses have hot water showers and flush toilets.

Campers must arrive and check-in before quiet hours start at 10:00 PM. Campers who arrive after 10:00 PM will not be allowed into the park and will have to find other accommodations for the night.

Backcountry Campsites and Permits The primitive backcountry campsites are equipped with tent platforms and boat landings. Campers at these environmentally sensitive sites must obtain a permit from the park and strictly follow Leave No Trace principles. Call the park at 410-968-1565 for more information about backcountry permits.

Youth Group Camping The park offers a 30 person youth group site, featuring a shaded but open area with a stone fire pit, group grill and picnic tables.

Full Service Cabins Four rustic waterfront cabins are available for rent year round. Each sleeps six persons and is equipped with three bedrooms, a common area, kitchen, bathroom, a screened porch with picnic table, air conditioning, heat, gas log fireplaces (available seasonally), an outdoor fire ring with a grill, a picnic table and ample parking. Cabin kitchens are equipped with an oven, stove, refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave, basic cooking utensils and service for six. Renters must provide their own towels and bedding (linens, pillows and blankets).

Camper Cabins Four waterfront camper cabins that sleep four are available during the camping season. Each has a capacity of four persons and is equipped with air conditioning and heat, electric, a table and chairs, either two sets of bunk beds or a double bed and a set of bunk beds, ceiling fan, a picnic table and fire ring. The island portion of the park – Janes Island – includes over 2,900 acres of saltmarsh, over 30 miles of water trails and miles of isolated pristine beaches. Although people have harvested the resources of the island for thousands of years, today the island is wild and seemingly untouched. A haven for birds, fish, crabs and other saltmarsh dwellers, Janes Island provides visitors a tranquil setting to explore the wildlife of the bay while enjoying the expansive vistas and stunningly beautiful sunsets. Whether fishing or crabbing, motor boating, paddling or simply relaxing, visitors to Janes Island will experience a world still ruled by the weather, the tides and the wildlife that first drew people to this very special place.

    Delmar, Delaware

Just an hour’s drive south of Dover, Trap Pond State Park is a 3600-acre recreation area that features a freshwater wetland that supports one of the last natural stands of baldcypress trees. The pond was created in the 1700s when it was dammed to provide power for the local sawmills that were harvesting the area’s old-growth timber. Once the trees were gone, the area was used as a drainage for the surrounding farmlands. Finally, in the 1930s, the state acquired the land and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) rehabilitated Trap Pond and surrounding woodland as a nature preserve and recreation space. This created Delaware’s first state park. It has since become a haven for herons, owls, woodpeckers and eagles, and a place where campers and recreationists can enjoy some outdoor time.

The campground at Trap Pond features 142 sites for tent and RV campers. Sites are set in five wooded loops: A, B, and C Loops have back-in sites with full hookups; D Loop has pull-through sites with full hookups; E Loop has primitive, walk-in tent sites. Each site is equipped with picnic tables and fire rings with grills. All camp loops have access to bathhouses with showers, restrooms, laundry facilities, and trash and recycling receptacles; a dump station is available near the campground entrance. The campground also has a picnic pavilion and kids’ playground between A and B Loops. The park also offers several rustic cabins and a couple yurts. Dogs are permitted, but must remain leashed. Campsite rates are $15–$25; cabin and yurt rates are $40–$52; reservations accepted.

The nature center at Trap Pond is a good place to start a visit to the park. Interpretive exhibits and nature programs provide information about the history of the wetlands, as well as its flora and fauna. Once acquainted with the park, it’s time to hit the trails and water to discover more and enjoy the natural setting. More than 10 miles of multi-use trails invite hikers, bikers and horseback riders to explore the woods and wetlands. Paddlers can take to the ponds and explore 2.5 miles of water trails. Boat rentals are available in the park, as well as launches and docks for small watercraft. For anglers, common catches in the ponds include pickerel, crappie, bluegill, and largemouth bass. Visitors can also play at the sports courts or disc golf course, or take in bird-watching for waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors.

    Lovely but crowded

This is a well kept, up-to-date campground with lots of variety for places to stay. However, the RV sites are very close, it was packed, noisy, and full of kids and barking dogs. Not quite the nature experience I was hoping for. Bath houses are clean and renovated and nice. Location is just across the bridge from Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge which was awesome.

Not a bad place for the family.

Very clean camp with all the amenities! Friendly and knowledgeable staff and plenty to do in the area!

This camp offers sites for everyone! There is Cabins, Spots for Tents, xxl RV’s, and more. Close to Ocean City, Assateague and the coolest little town Berlin!

There is a big pond to fish there with bass and bluegill lurking inside and a little camp store for all your basic needs!

Not a bad place for a family getaway or a stop along the way! Prices have gone up but that’s expected with glamping spots.

Found the Love of Camping at Castaways

We started camping for the first time in 2020 and were extremely new.  We jumped right into the Class A and went to Castaways for the first trip.  While there we had many problems with the Class A.  Not mechanical problems but "never having camped" problems.  The staff at Castaways bent over backwards to help us out the entire weekend.  Never did I see a frown or " here they go again" face but always asking if there is anything else they could do for us.  Because of them we have fallen in love with camping or glamping as we know it.  We made several trips to Castaways last year and in 2021 our first inaugural trip was there again. We had no problems this year but it is very reassuring to know that if we need help we can ask.  The staff remembered us from last year (hopefully that is a good thing) and we will definitely go back.  Thank you Castaways for giving us the "Love of Camping" .

    Trap Pond State Park Campground

    Beautiful as always

Just wow. We made an impromptu visit and camping trip. The walk-in tent sites are BEAUTIFUL!! It’s really great to be able to set up camp and be in nature without the sound of someone charging their phone or blowing up their mattress in the site next to you. All the wall in tent sites on loop E are HUGE!! You can easily fit two tents plus all the glamping extras! The bathrooms are short walk away and are lovely. Clean and big with free showers. The wheelbarrows provided are great for the drop off of equipment. The first night it rained (literal buckets). The site was under 3 inches of water within a half hour!! Once the rain stopped though the puddles were gone just as fast! The hiking is always beautiful and easy to access. The flat trails are wide and loop across to the national park side. The camp store is also a huge plus! They have everything you need for emergency’s and then some! The bikes, ice, and firewood are easy to access. The only complaint is that although there is boating a place to cool off was missed greatly. A pool or splash pad would make a great addition to an almost perfect campground! An added note, during the storm a branch from a tree became loose and we went to the check in to let them know. They gave us expedited care. The checked out the tree and decided for our safety we needed to change sites. They were able to give us a new site right away and even offered to help move us!! Customer camper care is definitely number 1!

    Trap Pond State Park Campground

    Beautiful views and quiet campground

For this visit, I stayed in one of their two yurts. The views were just gorgeous.

The yurts have a bunk bed with a queen mattress on the bottom and a twin on top, as well as a futon that folds out into a queen. The bunks were very comfortable, but the futon was so hard we didn't even use it to sit on. The yurts also have electricity, heat and air, and are well equipped with other items such as: a trash can, broom and dustpan, standing lamp, two chairs, two small tables, a fire extinguisher, and two fly swatters.

The views should be the huge selling point of this campground. When you walk out of the yurt, you walk onto your own raised wooden deck to beautiful views of Trap Pond. There are plenty of trees around for shade, but not so many that you can't enjoy the view. The trees also seclude you somewhat from your neighbors in the cabins, but you could interact if you wish.

The closest restrooms to the cabin and yurt area are port-a-potties but they are currently prepping to build a bath house in this area.

The cabins and yurts are walk up and wheelbarrows are provided. The walk is also pretty close. There is no running water, but there is a centrally located water pump.

The campground offers a lot to do and quite a bit of it is free: free bike rentals, free horseshoes and ladder ball, two huge playground area and a nature center. They also have boat rentals and a boat tour available.

We will definitely be visiting again!

    Yurt getaway!!

We were able to get a yurt as a walk up after the office closed thanks to the help of a kind staff member. The yurt was cozy and had a waterfront view of the pond. They fit up to 5 people and are air conditioned, but you’ll need your own sheets, pillow, & blankets! The campground was well kept with some trails, views of the pond all around, a small play ground, several bath houses, and an activity spot with cornhole and ladder ball set up. Pets are allowed except in the cabins and yurts.

If you like privacy the cabins and yurts provide plenty of it, and they do offer secluded island tent spots as well. The Reginald spots were a bit open and close to gether but they had electric and non electric available. There were canoe and kayak rentals for $10 an hour. Overall a fun place for the family. The only reason I gave it a 4 outta 5 is the fact that the bathrooms and showers were a bit dirty but other than that it was a great stay!!!

    Shad Landing Campground

    Best camping near the beach

Open from April to September (except Waters Edge and Robins Nest loops which are open year round) the tent sites here can be a little close together. Particularly the sites at Waters Edge. The camp sites , which are up to 200 or so are just large enough for a 6 person tent. Larger sites at the Fox Den loop can accommodate larger tents for larger families. Each site has a fire ring and table. Most have a lantern pole.all sites have access to water and all but Waters Edge have shower and bathrooms. ( Waters Edge bathrooms are under the camp store which is next door, but can be a long walk in the middle of the night). Shad landing offers good fishing, boat rental, and in season a well maintained pool. The camp store is not only well stocked, it offers a lunch and dinner menu, which the kids love as they’ll eat pizza whenever. Firewood is available for purchase. What is truly great about Shad Landing is it’s location. Want to go to the beach? Assateague Island is 30 minutes away, Ocean City 40 minutes. Chincoteague just shy of an hour. Wanna try local food? Pokomoke City, Berlin, OC, and several other place can help out. Just outside of Chincoteague is Wallops Island- a NASA launch and testing center. The science center is a huge hit with the kids. Assateague and Chincoteague both offer National Park activities. Chincoteague also has a wildlife area that is astounding to view ( as well as lighthouse tours and another science center. ) We’ve come here regularly for years and have never had what would be considered even a mediocre day.

    Excellent Time

Stayed in Yurt 1 waterfront. It may be the most beautiful campsite I’ve had the pleasure of staying at. Stayed in early June. There was plenty of tree cover, and the breeze coming off the pond was wonderful. It was such a lovely surprise. The Yurt had electric and AC! Big cozy inside with a small table and two beds. There is water Spickets close by and the bathrooms are close as well. It’s nice that the cabin area is walk-in only so no worries about loud trucks all times of day. The bathrooms are shared individual and free clean showers!! There is a park and boat launches everywhere. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THE HIKING! Such beautiful trails all over. Could spend a whole weekend doing a separate trail each day. Long and short ones.

    Jellystone Park™ Chincoteague Island

    Location trumps privacy

We don’t always pick campgrounds for their spacious sites and scenic views. BUT we do pick them based on the outdoor activities we can do from the campground itself via bike riding or walking. Since we don’t bring a car location is very important to us.

This private campground is in a fantastic location. Waking distance to stores, water slide park, kayaking, fishing/crabbing from bridges and Biking distance to Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge & Assateague Island National Seashore . There is even a complimentary trolley that will take you to the beach during the “in season”.

You can rent kayaks and bikes from this resort. There is a pool, jumping pillow, and playground. The water park adjacent cost an additional fee. They have 3 day passes and after 3pm packages. (You May also get a discount from KOA front desk)

The campground- tight and efficient with a lot of options for staying here from little cabins safari style tent cabins, rental Rv’s, grassy tent area to full hook up rv sites. We had a premium RV site and since we were here off season in late April- the campground was not super busy. Just expect that you will be in very close proximity of your neighbors and it will be loud and boisterous in the evening. Our solution?? Hike and Bike all day so you are exhausted. That way after dinner and a couple of glasses of wine... you really don’t care.

We came here specifically to experience the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague Island VA National Seashore and the parks did not disappoint. We biked and hiked the the parks but you can easily enjoy a lot of the sites via car. Just know that pets are NOT allowed. There are Ubers in this area. Here is a link to the trail and park map.
    https://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/Region_5/NWRS/South_Zone/Chincoteague_Complex/Chincoteague/Chincoteague%20Refuge%20Trail%20Map%20(1).pdf

There is a fee of $10 per car for 7 day pass. Bikers and Pedestrians get in free. (The fee gets you into both parks).

    Happy Camping! Pamela and Keith

It had rained just before getting there. A few sites were flooded but most were okay. We stayed on Acorn loop. The bath house was nice and staff were awesome. We did a day trip to Chincoteague and there were a ton of mosquitos.

    Beautiful time

Had an amazing time at this KOA in Chincoteague Island. Only one mile from the beach where the horses roam. Maui Water park was so fun, my kids loved it. The staff here was very kind and courteous. The KOA store was great as well. We will definitely book again for next year.

Super Friendly Staff. Great Quiet Campground.

The owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Nice quiet campground. Make sure you go down and visit their black swans. Like love to come over and talk to you.

Overall, we lived our time there. Good rates. Just a bike ride from the main street in Chincoteague. Pet friendly. We will definitely go back.

    Pocomoke River State Park Campground

Great quiet spot with lots to do

We stayed here 3 nights over Labor Day weekend. The sites are very level and spaced out well for privacy. The bathhouse was simple but clean, lit, and serviceable. There is a lot to do here: between the river, nature center, and pool, this place offers a lot. Plus it’s close to historic Snow Hill and Pocomoke City. A short day trip will take you to Chincoteague or Assateague Islands or Ocean City. We would definitely go back!

    Pine Grove Campground

    Best affordable campground on Chincoteague

We love it hear. Come back year after year. Large sites. Staff bends over backwards (let us borrow a length of water hose when ours was too short by a couple feet). They make you feel like family. Campground is also bird sanctuary which adds a bonus to kids.

    Pool is older but ok.

Bathhouses are also older but generally clean.

    Seasonals are friendly.

Great access to heart of Chincoteague and easily 30-50% cheaper than big name parks on island.

    Great

Close to Chincoteague and Assateague if you're there to see the wild ponies. The tent sites weren't so much as individual sites so much as you just set up somewhere in the huge grass field. Close to a lighthouse and I believe it made a sound occasionally but I camped here a few years ago now so I can remember. Realized I missed reviewing this place when I went on this road trip for some reason and wanted to add my review.

    Remote, beautiful, bay view

We loved this campground. We were in site 317 with full hookups. We missed the shade a lot, but the evening breeze off the bay made up for it. The sunset over the old pier is breathtaking. I hope they rebuild the pier. My kids loved catching tiny crabs in the mud every night.

Customer service is amazing. They even warned us about a thunderstorm.

Easy access to Cape Charles and Chincoteague/Assateague. We will be back.

    Trap Pond State Park Campground

    A Hidden Delaware Gem

I’ve only ever camped here in the spring. Summertime will be extra buggy so bring spray. If you own a kayak  or a canoe you have to bring it. Getting out on the pond and being one with the  bald cypress is amazing! You can roll in with your RV, tent camp, or rent  a cabin or a yurt. Our last visit here we stayed in a cabin and it was so much fun. It’s a little on the small side and the mattress was less than stellar, but we didn’t mind at all. It’s a perfect little shelter for when you’re not outside enjoying all the beautiful nature. I highly recommend checking it out.

    Trap Pond State Park Campground

State Park, multiple types of campsites/hook ups.

One of our go-to camping sites near Laurel, DE. Situated on Trap Pond and an old cypress swamp. Multiple sites a short distance to the pond and most have at least a view of the water. Sites are water and electric. Some loops have 50 amp service, so check the reservation system for your specific needs. Some pull through sites, tent hike-in area and yurts available. Small camp store at the check-in cabin. Small boat launch area also for canoeing and kayaks. Believe there is a group camping area as well and a group picnic pavilion.

Have been there for several July 4th's and they had an Elvis impersonator in concert across the pond at the swimming/picnic area!

    Shad Landing Campground

Great park, close to many MD Eastern shore attractions

Stayed in a cabin for one night, to scope out location for a longer future stay. Very nice, well-maintained park on the beautiful Pocomoke River. Swimming pool; large marina with café, supplies, canoe and kayak rentals; nature center; boat launch; and more. Shad Landing is the larger, "main" portion of the park, with many camping loops, and all the main amenities. Sites over here are more private than the Milburn area (across the river, about a 25 min drive), but I understand they are renovating several bathhouses this summer, so read the website alerts and choose your loop carefully! Will be returning next month and camping in the Milburn section during our family reunion, and can't wait to write a review for that area!

This park is within an hour's drive (or less) to Ocean City, Historic Berlin, Chincoteague, Assateague, Wallops Island, and many other popular destinations.

    Shad Landing Campground

    Near enough to the ocean

Shad Landing ( and it’s parter site Milburn Landing) offer enough for you to spend a week close enough to the beaches of Assateague, Ocean City, and Chincoteague to smell the ocean. Sites are medium to large. There is one pet loop that is popular with the RV crowd. The park offers a warm shower, clean restrooms, a camp store that houses a small kitchen(pizza, sandwiches, ice cream) and canoeing through a pretty decent water trail. When not blocked by pandemic proposals, the nature center is a hub of educational activity and some great ranger programs. The park can get crowded fast. The eastern shore gets busy quick, even on the weekdays. When open, there is Assateague National Park, Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge, Wallops Island NASA center, and the fun of Ocean City- all within an hour drive. The towns of OC, Pocomoke City, and Berlin all have enough food to satisfy. The waterfront loop has no attached bathroom/showers, but instead uses the facilities under the camp store- a long walk in the middle of the night. There is water available. There is a washer/dryer available as well. Cabins are also available for rent. The one big problem with both Shad and Milburn are the bugs. It gets insanely humid here, and the mosquitoes, flies, and ticks take full advantage- especially if you decide to hike through the nearby State Forest. As of this writing, both the pool and the nature center is closed due to COVID. As well as the Marina and the Camp Store, which we found out on arrival. Wal-mart and Dollar General are just eight miles from the park. As we had already booked the week, we stayed- but without the pool at least and without the presence of the staff and the camp store ( and the boat rental as well) the experience was not as good as it was in the past. Until the COVID restrictions are relaxed and the park gets its amenities back, I cannot recommend staying here as much as I have in the past. The bathrooms in the fox den loop need updated as well- I noticed the doors are rusted and the stalls are very small.

    Trap Pond State Park Campground

Lovely, well run, affordable state park campground.

Trap Pond is wonderful, we camp there a lot. It's great for kayaking and canoeing, freshwater fishing, birding, biking and hiking. There are miles of well maintained trails for bicycles, and free bike rentals from the campground bike shed. There are also loads of well marked water trails, one of which leads to a really nice cypress swamp with active beaver dam. Pontoon boat tours and kayak and canoe rentals are available for a reasonable fee. There is a nice play area for children in the campground that's just been upgraded, and a larger one across the pond in the public area. A lovely nature center is available for visiting during the day at no charge. It's fairly quiet and great for families and children.

Campsites are wooded and well kept, with fire rings and picnic tables at each, and there are a range of scheduled activities for all ages from free to a small fee. Staff and volunteer hosts are friendly and courteous, and there is a camp store and laundry facilities. Bath houses, while a bit dated, are kept clean and neat. Pets are welcome. Cabins and Yurts are available, (And adorable).

    Milburn Landing Campground

    A quiet and small campground

Pocomoke river state park offers two campgrounds smaller of these is Milburn landing which is significantly farther from the coastal attractions then the larger Shad Landing. It offers level sites with gravel pads, picnic table, and lantern stand, and fire ring nestled beneath tall pines; some also offer electric, but not sewer connections. A centrally located bathroom is clean with showers and includes a dishwashing sink. Verizon cell coverage was poor.  There are also a few rustic cabins if you don't have a tent iorwould rather have a more secure place to sleep.

There's a soft launch spot for canoes and kayaks near the cabins, but no swimming due to water hazards. An official boat ramp is down a road across from the campground entrance.

There's no camp store on location, but Pocomoke City, with it's big box stores, is nearby if you've forgotten anything.

It's a quieter experience here with fewer amenities, but nice if you want to get away and boat, fish, or explore. If you're looking to explore Assateague or Chincoteague, you will find the Shad Landing section of Pocomoke River is more convenient.

    Jellystone Park™ Chincoteague Island

    Disappointing

This was the second time we went here. Last year, we really enjoyed our stay. Chincoteague is a beautiful area, with lots to do. This year, the price has more than doubled. Their excuse is that now that they have a Waterpark, they are now a KOA Resort. All well and good if you are looking for that type of thing, but the campground has changed as well. The sites are smaller and closer together. Full hookup only means electric, water and sewer. Although many sites have CATV, not all do. Speaking of sewer, a mild rainstorm during the night caused the septic system to overflow, inundating many of the campsites with black water. When I spoke to one of the camp employees, his reply was that the storm water runs into the septic system, and there isn’t anything they can do about it. I have never experienced this in any other campground. Most of the camp employees are very kind and helpful, but the office staff is indifferent. If you go, check your site before accepting it - most RV/trailer sites are fine unless it storms. There is lots to do in the area, and many great restaurants on the island. Be sure to check out Mr. Whippys! Restrooms and laundry are well maintained.

    Shad Landing Campground

Close to the ocean without the cost of OC

Shad Landing, along with it’s sister park Milburn Landing, make up Pokomoke State Park. It’s just 45 minutes away from the beach at Assateague Island and an hour or so to Ocean City or Chincoteague. The sites are varied- some are more apt to hold smaller tents than larger ones, there are RV sites as well- cabins too. Each loop, with the exception of Waters Edge have full bathrooms with warm showers and flush toilets. Pets are allowed in some loops. The marina/ park office has a well stocked camp store as well as a kitchen that serves pizza and the like. Boat rental are available as well (try the canoe loop trail) There have been years when we stay here instead of hotels at OC- much cheaper and close to more than just commercial crap. Besides the beaches, it’s also close to the truly excellent NASA Wallops Island center that my kids thoroughly enjoy, as well as incredibly awesome food in nearby Berlin and Pocomoke City. Each site provides a picnic table and fire ring. Most have a lantern hook. In season there is a large swimming pool- free for campers. The nature center regularly holds programs and there are a few hiking trails here and in the nearby Pocomoke State Forest.

    Jellystone Park™ Chincoteague Island

Beautiful spot, high prices, disappointing management

We just returned from five nights at the Chincoteague KOA. I got a great deal over black friday weekend for a deluxe cabin but the "normal" prices are highway robbery. We paid $180/night booking months in advance, but even with the limited amenities due to covid the price per night was well over $300.

We ran into a problem on the 4th night of our stay where the propane leak alarm sounded at midnight. We grabbed the kids and drove to the overnight guard who called the local fire department. They came, checked for a leak and over an hour later we were back in our cabin. Our kids didn't sleep much after that and ruined our plans for the following day. And of course on the 5th and final night the alarm sounded at 9:45. Thankfully maintenance was still there and switched out the monitor for one from a newer cabin. Talking to a few "neighbors" this seems to be a common problem that has been going on for over a year! The management didn't call or come by to check on us and apologize once after this happened. To be fair, at checkout my husband spoke to the manager and she gave us a credit of $100. But even with that I am still a little disappointed.

Overall, my kids really enjoy the campground and area so we will probably return. The bathouses are very clean and there are a few to choose from all with laundry. There are kayaks available to rent and a small waterpark that is fun during non covid times.
