Best RV Parks & Resorts near Fair Haven, VT

RV parks around Fair Haven include Brookwood RV Resort, Dorset RV Park, and Lake George Escape Campground offering varied site options for motorhomes and travel trailers. Brookwood RV Resort provides full hookup sites with 50-amp electrical service, gravel pads, and level spaces suitable for larger RVs. Dorset RV Park features pull-through and back-in sites with full hookups, though the terrain can be challenging for some rigs with gravel roads and tight turns due to mature trees. Lake George Escape Campground accommodates RVs of various sizes with electric, water, and sewer connections, operating from May through mid-October. "Some sites in the older section have sand/dirt patios and sandy roads which makes it very dusty. The new area has crushed gravel and lots more room and some pull-thru sites."

Between Lake George and Fair Haven, most RV parks require advance reservations during peak summer and fall foliage seasons. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with several reviews noting poor connectivity at more remote locations. Many parks offer cable TV hookups to compensate for satellite limitations caused by tree coverage. Dump stations are available at most full-service RV parks, though some visitors report challenges with site leveling on gravel pads. According to a review, "We tried about every way to sit our rig in there to level, but we ended up driving our front tires up on leveling blocks and went up with the jacks as much as we safely could." Most parks accommodate pets with designated dog areas, though some impose restrictions or additional fees. Propane fill services are limited, requiring travelers to plan refills at larger towns.

    Abel Mountain Campground

    Great Mid Week Adventure

My husband and I are seniors and spent 3 nights, Tuesday to Friday in June on site 51. Abel Mtn. Campground was easy enough to find. We have a 21' travel trailer and took advantage of the full hookups that most of the sites provide, including our first time using cable TV. As everyone else who reviews this place said, the owners are the first pleasure you find there. There's a heated pool, strong WiFi at your site, tons of clean river sites, immaculate rest rooms with an accessible ramp and lots of showers. For activities, you can hike on trails across the foot bridge and fish in many places along the river. They recycle everything possible and even provide composting of plant based waste. We have rarely found a returnable bottles and cans container so finding that and even composting is a notch well above the competition. Being the middle of June, there were no kids around but the photos and the two playgrounds tell us kids must love the place. Sites are back-in and very level on gravel pads. We highly recommend the place. Oh and a word to the wise, you will hear a train go by somewhere and the whistle will wake you up but no worries, it's all part of the ambiance.

    Lake George Riverview Campground

    Great River Access

This campground sits on the Schroon River just a few miles north of downtown Lake George and is very easy to access from I-87. They can accommodate any size camper from the 45’ motorhome with 50 amp service to a tent just wanting electric and water. All sites have cable TV hookup and free WiFi at their site along with a picnic table and fire rings. The park is not huge and it was pretty full so it felt a little cramped for us. There were quite a few seasonal people. Some sites back up to the river so you have a nice view. When the park if full, it can be a little cramped for big-rigs to back into some sites, especially the river ones. There are trees to navigate and some of the spots are tight.

Apparently, it is under new management and there are lots of changes that the new owners are proud of. But that also means there is a lot of on-going construction happening in the campground which was pretty annoying. Lots of dust and loud equipment certainly interrupted the thought of a peaceful afternoon outside. Many of the sites in the older section have sand/dirt patios and sandy roads which makes it very dusty. The new area has crushed gravel and lots more room and some pull-thru sites. They have the typical campground amenities like horseshoe pit, pavilion, playground, pool, and camp store. We typically don’t use any of those and they were closed anyway due to Covid-19 safety precautions. Had we stayed longer, we would have taken advantage of the river access and paddled. There is a little beach area and launching paddleboards, canoes, or kayaks would be very easy.  (They also have watercraft available to rent.)  We were more focused on hiking and enjoying the woods.(Recommend the short hike to the“Bear Slide.”)

Some of the things we didn’t like was the sandy/dirt which was a mess when it rained. You are supposed to leave your trash at the front of your site but sometimes it was not picked up until late in the day.  We found the bugs to be very pesky in the evening and didn't want to sit outside. Things we liked it the surrounding location and access to hiking trails and the river. Once the construction is complete and grass takes hold in some areas it will be really nice. Downtown Lake George is only about 4-5 miles away.

    Lake Bomoseen KOA

Fun, crowded, and running out of steam

This is a solid, family-friendly campground. It has the standard amenities plus some fun extras (arcade, mini-golf, boat rentals, etc.). However, all amenities are in worn shape. The playground is approaching dangerous, for instance (metal pipe sticking out of sandbox?) and the arcade was largely broken (ate a lot of quarters). Granted we were there for the last weekend of the camping season, but these appear to be longer term issues.

The camp store was great. Service was helpful and friendly.

Odd $10 CASH deposit for gate key that no one asked for. No ATM on site to get cash…

The sites are spacious enough, but are very close to each other. Zero buffer between neighboring sites means encroaching slide outs.

Cell services on ATT and TMobile were nonexistent. Campground WiFi is a joke (less than 1mbps).

Beautiful views of lake down by the dock, but campsites have no view.

Easy access to several great hikes and local restaurants.

    Lake George Riverview Campground

    Lots to do

Stayed 1 night passing thru. Mike and vicki were friendly. Electric and water hookups. WiFi was great. Cable tv hookups, also. Dump station on site was convenient. Also, they had propane there, so I topped off. Beautiful campground. They’ve clearly been upgrading. Roads have fresh gravel. Sites are level and clean. Bathrooms are clean. Get a site on the river 👌🏻. Very close to Lake George activities and attractions.

    Dorset RV Park

Decent campground in a good location

We thought this park was o.k.– nothing special but nothing bad but we really wanted to see the area since we were told the town of Dorset was so pretty. When we checked in, there was a sign that personnel were working in the park and there was a phone number for us to call. They responded right away and met us at the office and showed us where our site was.

The campground was clean and tidy with nice tall trees. The roads and campsites are gravel and a little tight to get around because of all the trees but we were able to manage in our 45’ motorhome. There were a scattering of amenities like a rec room with games, shuffleboard, playground, volleyball, horseshoes, laundry, and showers. There are community activities like bonfires, bingo, pot luck dinners, and complementary donuts& coffee every Sunday morning.

Our site was level but some definitely were not. We got twenty or so television channels with the cable hookup. The hookups were all well-placed and we didn’t have any issues with the electric and the wifi at our site worked well. We had a picnic table and fire pit. The sites next to us were not occupied which was nice because otherwise it would have felt a little tight. We did notice a bit of road noise when sitting outside. There are some really nice tent sites set away from the RV sites that sit under large trees and have nice space. The only drawback is they are farther away from the bathrooms.

Loved the area, the Green Mountains are beautiful so there is plenty of sightseeing to do. Dorset is a cute tiny town that is beautiful in the fall. The nearby town of Manchester is home to Orvis and there is an interesting fly fishing museum next door. Overall, the park was fine for us and we would stay again if we were in the area. We paid ($47/night) for our full hookup, 50-amp site.

    Lake Bomoseen KOA

    Many Features But Road Noise

The Campground has a nice staff, a very well appointed general store, laundry, arcade, marina with boat rentals, mini theater, and indoor mini put. Most of the sites are wooded and nice. Somehow we managed to get the one pull through spot that was at the end and harder to get in. I was surprised how much road noise we heard inside of our trailer. The internet speed fluxuates and was slow to unusable our last day. I could not get the cable TV working. All in all it is a nice Campground and most of it (the back in spaces) look nice and wooded. I would stay here again despite the small inconveniences but I would definately pick a different camp site. Again, you will hear some road noise.

    Mt. Kenyon Campground - CLOSED

Good central location to visit the ADK

Although the campground was right off the road, it's still in a forest with big pine trees and mossy boulders. It was easy to access from 87. Given the proximity to the road, there is road noise, so that doesn't allow for that super outdoorsy experience you might desire. At night though it would get very dark and quiet - there weren't a lot of campers there during our stay. The camphost lives in a home onsite and was mostly helpful. Be sure to mention the 5 nights for 4 deal on their website upfront, otherwise she won't reimburse. Upon working with her to extend our stay, she said people were scheduled to come into our spot. We moved and no one arrived, so that was a bit annoying.

To get to the sites, we had to take it a bit slow because there are some low hanging trees and a turn, but made it fine. Our first site, 22, was a back-in, 30 amp, full hook-up. It was a long site with plenty of room for our RV and SUV. We had to back it up to the very end to find the flattest option to level. With the way they have their sites set up, you need a 50 ft hose for water. This site was close to the showerhouse but next to a longterm trailer with crap everywhere and we weren't super thrilled that was our view from our windows in our living area. Our second site, 50, was also a back-in, 30 amp, full hookup. It was very pretty but hard to level. The site slopes up, so the backend was high. We tried about every way to sit our rig in there to level, but we ended up driving our front tires up on some leveling blocks and went up with the jacks as much as we safely could. We didn't get a perfect level, but we decided it was ok since we only had 2 days left. We had to wiggle our SUV in kind of sideways, but it worked.

There were some "residents" there in tents, which was interesting and a couple longterm trailers (with the typical cluttered lots you see at campgrounds that offer longterm stays). The campground is clean and the shower houses were faithfully cleaned everyday around 11a. Showerhouses were dated, but had super hot water for showers.

A few miles further down the road is the town of Lake Luzerne. We visited their small grocery which had the basics and we ate at one of the restaurants which had a view of the water (Upriver Cafe). The campground was in a perfect location to visit Lake George and surrounding area (Six Flags, outlet shops, putt-putt, restaurants etc). If you're wanting to explore even more you're only 1.5 hrs to Lake Placid and the Green Mountain National Forest.

Work was difficult with my husband dependent on AT&T. The Weboost got Verizon working fine, but AT&T was spotty. We had some issues with our RV that we were trying to get fixed locally which extended our stay, otherwise we would have left earlier due to this. The camphost told us that they had invested in some sort of mini Verizon tower for their personal use, so that was what was helping the Verizon signal. The campground offers wifi at the office/pool/rec room area, but when the "residents" come down, it brings it to a snails pace. My husband would go down there in the morning to work and had to go to Starbucks in Lake George at times when all the kids at camp decided to be on their devices at the same time.

Pool is not heated, so not many people were using it. They charge $2 per garbage bag to be put in their dumpster. They sell a few necessities in their office and firewood. They have laundry with 1 working residential washer $1 and 1 residential dryer $.75 and 1 industrial sized dryer $1. We did a couple loads with no issue. They are outside in a patio area.

Bring the bug spray. The mosquitos were as big as birds and tenacious!

Guide to Fair Haven

Camping opportunities around Fair Haven, Vermont include sites spanning from the western Adirondacks to Vermont's Green Mountain region. The area sits at the southern end of Lake Champlain at elevations ranging from 400 to 2,000 feet, creating varied camping environments. Summer temperatures typically range from 60-85°F with cooler nights in forested campgrounds.

What to do

Swimming at natural quarries: Near Dorset RV Park, visitors can access a unique swimming experience. "Great location near a fantastic quarry, country store, and Manchester shopping. The camp grounds were family friendly and quiet. They even had rabbits and chickens for the kids to enjoy," notes Rachelle S.

Seasonal water activities: Lake George Escape Campground offers numerous water-based recreation options. "There are SO MANY activities in this area. Archery was awesome!" writes Kimberly S. The campground provides a range of summer water activities, including "sliding down the water slide, taking a dip in the pools, playing at the arcade or doing some shopping in the area," according to Meag F.

Hiking to waterfalls: Vermont's Jamaica State Park Campground provides access to scenic waterfall trails. "Hike the scenic trail and take a right upward to Hamilton Falls, a gorgeous waterfall!! But heed the warning sign, people really have died at this waterfall," cautions Jaime R. The park also features "a boat dock to kayak" and is located near "Bromli Mnt. With fun activities to do in the summer or winter!" says Meike W.

What campers like

Quiet atmosphere: Brookwood RV Resort earns praise for its peaceful environment. "This RV park on the outskirts of Ticonderoga offers full hookups and can also accommodate tents. Seasonal sites are largely separate from short-term campers and they are clean and well-kept," says Jean C. The campground provides a quiet atmosphere with "level, shaded site" according to Beth R.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention the cleanliness of facilities at rv campgrounds near Fair Haven. "Beautiful campground. Very Clean," reports Dawn D. about Lake George RV Park. Similar comments come from Ledgeview Village RV Park visitors: "Bathrooms very clean. Pool was nice. Campground nice for younger families," notes Lauren.

River access: Several campgrounds feature river access that campers particularly enjoy. "We had a nice spot on the lake and were able to fish from our spot," reports a visitor to Alpine Lake RV Resort. At Jamaica State Park, "the campsites were beautiful with the river behind us. Not to many people there so we're got the best spot," according to Meike W.

What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Many campgrounds have inconsistent site quality. "Sites are pretty inconsistent– meaning some are long and wide with good privacy but others are not. With over 400 campsites there are a lot to chose from and hard to know which is best for you unless you have been there before," writes Nancy W. about Lake George Escape Campground.

Reservation timing: For the best sites in popular campgrounds, book early, especially for waterfront access. "Book your site early to get a lean-to or a site near the river...it's stunning in the morning with the mountain mist rolling through!!" advises Jaime R. about Jamaica State Park.

Weather impacts: The region experiences varied weather conditions that can affect camping experiences. "We unfortunately got hit with some pretty bad weather so we couldn't enjoy the grounds as much as we would have liked to," explains Christina M. Local flooding can also be a concern during heavy rain periods, with some campgrounds having emergency relocation plans.

Cell service limitations: Ledgeview Village RV Park and other campgrounds in more wooded areas have spotty connectivity. WiFi availability varies significantly between parks, with some offering reliable service while others struggle to maintain connections.

Tips for camping with families

Structured activities: Some campgrounds offer organized programs for different age groups. "There are tons of activities, lots of families and 'stuff' going on all the time," notes one reviewer. At Lake George Escape, "teen nights, family days and everything in between" are available according to Michelle D.

Playground options: Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks features family-friendly amenities. "The kids loved the gem mining and train rides!! We enjoyed the water view and the staff was so nice to us!" shares Gayle S. Multiple campgrounds offer "clean and updated facilities" with playground equipment suitable for various ages.

Pet considerations: Many rv campgrounds around Fair Haven, Vermont welcome pets, but have different policies. "While the campground is pet friendly, a warning about free roaming chickens would have been nice. I would not have brought my (prey driven) dogs if I had known there were free roaming chickens," cautions one Dorset RV Park visitor.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many RVers note challenges with uneven sites. "Our site was level but some definitely were not," reports Nancy W. about Dorset RV Park. Come prepared with leveling blocks, especially for gravel sites that may settle differently throughout the camping season.

Navigation within campgrounds: Narrow roads and tight turns can create challenges for larger RVs. "Tree placement and a pretty sharp 110+ degree turn makes it challenging to maneuver," notes Katie E. about Dorset RV Park. Additionally, "Roads in the park are confusing because none are parallel or perpendicular so we had to go slow just to make sure we didn't miss a turn in the RV," explains another camper.

Hookup placement: RVers should check the location of utilities before parking. "The hookups were all well-placed and we didn't have any issues with the electric and the wifi at our site worked well," shares Nancy W. However, at some rv campgrounds in the Fair Haven region, "sewer lines were a bit close to you and your picnic table in the loop."
