Colorado Parks & Wildlife operates Elk Ridge Campground with 88 sites offering electric hookups and access to full amenities including showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station. The forested campground sits within Ridgway State Park at elevations that bring cool nights even during summer months.
Most sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, though campers with larger rigs should note the pull-through sites curve sharply with trees on both sides. "Most of the pull through sites weren't long, were only about a 'lane' wide, and curved pretty sharply," reports Kevin G., who ended up backing in his fifth wheel instead. Water spigots sit adjacent to select sites marked with asterisks on park maps, eliminating the need to move your rig for tank filling.
Tree coverage varies significantly between loops, with the E loop providing the most shade according to multiple reviews. Walk-in tent sites along the reservoir edge offer direct water views, though campers must haul gear roughly 50 yards from parking areas using provided wheelbarrows. A cell tower positioned within the campground ensures reliable Verizon coverage throughout the area.
The reservoir provides swimming, fishing, and paddleboard rentals, while paved trails connect to downtown Ridgway four miles south. "Sites are small and fairly close together but it was a quiet campground," notes Matt B.. Morning traffic noise from Highway 550 reaches some sites, particularly those closer to the road.
Reservations cost $28-$36 per night and can be made year-round, though summer fills quickly. For additional camping options in the area, consider campgrounds around Ridgway or the nearby Dakota Terraces Campground — Ridgway State Park.
