Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Telegraph, TX

South Llano River State Park Campground offers established water and electric hookups for campers with pets. The park allows dogs throughout the developed areas with standard leash requirements. Both tent campers and RV owners can enjoy pet-friendly accommodations, with covered picnic tables at each site providing shade during hot summer days. North Llano River RV Park and Tree Cabins RV Resort near Junction also welcome pets with various accommodation options including cabins and glamping sites. During cooler months, pets need adequate warmth as temperatures can drop significantly—one visitor reported experiencing 23 degrees overnight in December. The campground features numerous wildlife viewing opportunities where leashed pets must be controlled.

The park's extensive trail system provides multiple pet exercise options with varying difficulty levels. Several hiking paths wind through the park's natural areas where dogs can join their owners on leashed walks. The Llano River offers water access for pets, with multiple designated swimming and wading spots throughout the park. Hikers frequently encounter wildlife including deer, armadillos, and occasionally wild hogs, so pets should be kept secure and monitored. The park office sells basic supplies, though no specific pet provisions were mentioned in reviews. Primitive campsites require a 1.5-mile hike to reach, which reviewers found manageable even with children, though carrying extra water is necessary for both humans and pets. The park's stargazing opportunities as an International Dark Sky designation provide evening entertainment for campers after pets have settled for the night.

    Buckhorn Lake Resort

Amazing resort with lots of amenities

We stayed one night, but we plan to come back and stay a week later this year.

    Pros:

    • Long pull through sites.
    • They have several types of sites: back-in, pull through, head in.
    • Two pools, one is adults only.
    • Super large dog park, if you have dogs (we have a cat).

    Cons:

    • A little on the spendy side, but proximity to San Antonio and Fredericksburg, as well as amenities, are likely reasons.

    • Wifi was spotty, but it is also not guaranteed. If Internet is important, bring a hotspot or use cel phone.

    Buckhorn Lake Resort

    Beautiful Park

We found this park as we were traveling and they were very helpful over the phone. Great staff and friendly! All sights are concrete and very clean and beautiful park. Close to the highway but couldn’t hear any traffic at our sight. We were behind the office overlooking the gazebo. Beautiful landscaping! Would like to have seen more planned events. There is a creek to fish in and a great dog park. There is an adult section at back but limited on fifth wheel sights there. It was evident that it was originally for coaches. Great little store at office was fun. We had to move towards end of stay to the sight next to us, as someone had reserved the sight we were in. Overall our stay was good! Cell phone use: Verizon had one bar and AT&T had all four. We have both carriers and we’re able to just use AT&T until you leave and get across the highway then Verizon works.

Lost Maples State Natural Area Campground

    Love it

Short trip for weekend stay for us. Close to the river. Nice spaces with covered tables and scattered trees. Hiking, pet friendly. Showers were clean and well kept. No sewer hook up but dump station is right off the road. Plenty of open space to see the Texas skies and right there at the Frio River. One of our go to spots.

Johnson Creek RV Resort & Park

    One of Our Favorite Campgrounds!

We took our kids for a fun NYE trip in the camper and loved this campground. Staff super friendly and really spacious. If you have pets getting a back-in site may give you more room to let them move around if tethered to your camper during some outside time. There are goats and mini horses you can feed so our kids loved that. Fun playground for kids, too! We’ll definitely be going back.

    Pecan Valley RV Park

    Great place

What an amazing experience to camp at this beautiful park. The owners or camp hosts will greet you at the entrance (no need to leave your vehicle to check-in) and take you straight to your site. Very natural setting, free range chickens have the run of the park, goats baby ducks can be seen and petted as you stroll the 100 yards to the river. Quiet at night and very little light pollution allows for peaceful star gazing. A must stay!

    Texas Hill Country Resort

    Great Biker Resort

2019 Ok, first the good. Large RV spots with full hookups. You won’t feel crowded when your parked beside your neighbor. The park has an awesome walking trail. If you want a good workout walk up to the Texas flag observation point. Folks mostly use the lower trail which is about half a mile trek. Up at the Flag you’ll see a beautiful scenic shot of the valley. The Wi-Fi was good at spot where we stayed, but there’s no phone service in the entire park. I understand that RVC Inc. bought the park a couple years ago. I noticed a few things already going downhill. for instance the Hot tub next to the pool is heated but no jets are working. I hope RVC Inc spends the money to fix this, otherwise it’s just a bathtub. They have a garden hose dribbling water into the hot tub 24/7. The Pool is not heated, so useless for winter Texans. but I’ll bet it’s just great in the summertime. See pics) Many of the lights on top of the electric posts were not working, so it’s dark out when you take your dog for that last walk before bedtime. They have a great Office/Store and a restaurant (closed during winter months) They have a pool and shuffleboard tables and outdoor dining tables. Great Biker stop to cool down with a cold one. RVC inc does require a background check ($40) for each person planning on an extended stay. We did a month

Perfect overnight location for I-10 travelers

A very pleasant park with pull through locations along a river. Not very big, estimate room for 8-10 RVs. I drive a campervan and fit in between two Class As very nicely. Scenic views of the river, a dam, and the surrounding Texas hill country. I pulled in around 7, strong AT&T signal, very quiet all night. And it's free!

    HTR TX Hill Country

    Awesome

It is August in Texas, very hot, we have to have shade and water to camp. This has it all. Our site had lovely cottonwood trees and right on the small branch of the river. Walk across small rapids and crystal clear water to another side of the park with access to the main river for canoeing, kayaking, you name it.
There are several small walking trails. Three separate sections... rv full service, rv water/elec., tents. All lovely. Don’t like river water... check out the pool ❤️. Also lots of birds! All the sights and sounds of Texas camping. We watched the ducks fly in every evening, along with a lovely blue heron. Turtles have their own little island. We watched the bats swarm the evening sky eating their fill. Then we were visited by lightning bugs. The frogs will sing to you all night. Suggest a prime spot... slightly more but larger and lots of room to spread out! Lovely people, very attentive, very very clean! We will return!
