    Palo Duro Canyon Lookout

    the views were incredible

I recently visited Palo Duro Canyon Lookout, and wow, the views were incredible! The rugged terrain and unique rock formations make it feel like you’re in another world. I went in the summer, and it got pretty hot with temperatures in the 90s°F, so bring plenty of water. I can imagine winter would be chilly, down to the 30s°F, so dress accordingly. The lookout is really close to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, which has some amazing hiking trails if you want to explore more. Definitely worth a visit if you love nature and breathtaking scenery!

    Waylon Jennings RV Park

    Awesome overnight!

There are full hook up sites (back in) that were crowded when I was there but there is another lot with water / electric with a dump station if you want more privacy. Some full timers in the full hook up spots.

SH 207 Palo Duro Canyon Overlook

This spot really surprised me in the best way

This spot really surprised me in the best way. The overlook gives you incredible panoramic views of Palo Duro Canyon— especially during sunset, when the colors light up the entire sky. I car-camped here for a night, and even without water or bathrooms, it felt like the perfect escape from city life. The picnic tables were super handy for dinner, and even though it got windy at night, it was manageable. Stargazing was the highlight— I saw more stars than I’ve ever seen in my life. Just make poor bunny sure to pack your own water, snacks, and warm layers if you're staying overnight. If you’re road-tripping through Texas, this is a stop worth making.

The Retreat RV and Camping Resort

    Very nice but lacking

We had to check in after hours and finding our spot was easy and the map helpful. The site is very nice and the camper spots that are covered have me jealous we are pulling a car trailer and opted for the pull through. The grounds are very clean and the bathhouse looked nice…….unfortunately with the time we pulled in all we were able to do was look at them. Once we went back to got our shower supplies they were closed. I understand quiet hours but I can’t understand why you would lock them up at 9 on a Saturday.

Also, the entrance from the hwy is pretty steep and it was impossible to not rub our trailer. (Per the info there is another entrance but it’s only available during certain hours)

The Retreat RV and Camping Resort

    Comfortable RV Park in Lubbock

The park has all the amenities you need for a pretty reasonable price. You can hear the sounds of the freeway from the east side of the park, but if you don’t mind that, it’s a pretty nice spot. Staff are helpful and friendly and the facilities are well maintained.

South Prong Primitive Camping Area — Caprock Canyons State Park

    Close, but no cigar

The park itself is great, and there are great trails to be done. The campsite is a walk from the parking area, I guess we were told that, anyway - that made things a bit tricky. There are about 8 spots along the trail with shade and pits and tables. The restroom is out the backside of the campground and to the right, a bit of a hike. The sites are spacious but the only view from ours was the night sky. We were treated to Mariachi music from across the water until about 10 PM, could have done with out so much of that.

    Palo Duro Canyon Lookout

Great Overnight Spot with Awesome Views

No amenities, but good boondocking spot for the night. Got lucky with cooler overnight temps in June.
