Best Campgrounds near Stafford, TX

Stafford, Texas provides convenient access to a mix of urban and suburban camping options, primarily in the form of RV resorts and established campgrounds. Most facilities are situated within 20 miles of Stafford, with options like Lakeview RV Resort and Highway 6 RV Resort offering full hookup sites for recreational vehicles alongside cabin accommodations. While tent camping is available at select locations such as Brazos Bend State Park Campground (approximately 25 miles southwest of Stafford), the region predominantly caters to RV travelers with paved sites and resort-style amenities.

Access to these mixed-use campgrounds typically requires advance reservations, particularly during peak travel periods and medical tourism seasons. "This property is well maintained by a caring and professional management staff," noted one visitor about AllStar RV Resort, highlighting the professional operations common in the area. Many RV parks in the Houston metro area provide shuttle service to the Texas Medical Center, making them popular with patients seeking treatment. The climate remains mild during winter months but summer heat and humidity can be extreme, with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F from June through September. Most campgrounds feature gated access with security measures in place, reflecting their urban setting.

Campers report high satisfaction with amenities at the RV resorts near Stafford, with multiple reviews mentioning clean facilities, swimming pools, and fitness centers. A visitor at Highway 6 RV Resort commented, "They have 2 dog runs, one of them being the largest dog run we've seen at a campground so our mali really got to sprint it out." Sites are generally level with concrete pads and full hookups, though limited shade is a common concern during summer months. While these camping areas lack the wilderness experience found in more remote locations, they serve as convenient bases for exploring the greater Houston area. Traffic noise can be noticeable at properties adjacent to major highways, and several reviewers recommend requesting sites farther from road corridors for a quieter experience.

    Stella Mare RV Resort

    Three Day Stay in Galveston

Very nice RV park. Friendly staff, very clean and well kept. Nice, clean bathrooms, showers and laundry (husband said the men’s facilities were not so nice). Beautiful pool area. Although it was short, we enjoyed our time there and would recommend it.

    Eric & Jay’s RV Resort

    Stay away from here

With nearly 20 years in asset management overseeing multi-million-dollar properties, I can confidently say this situation reflects a serious operational failure. The park manager, Tina, removed us from the system and reassigned our PAID and ACTIVE RV site while we were temporarily away at the Houston Rodeo trail ride. Her explanation? An email was allegedly sent, and because there was no reply, she assumed we had moved out. Silence is not confirmation. In professional property management, an unanswered email does not justify removing paying guests from occupancy records. You verify departure. You call. You document confirmation. You do not displace active guests based on assumption. We check our email regularly. There was no email. Even if there had been, failure to respond does not authorize forfeiture of a paid site. We returned to find ourselves displaced. The most concerning part was the lack of accountability. Instead of acknowledging a management error, the justification was treated as sufficient. When occupancy control is this loose, it raises serious concerns about operational standards and guest security. We will not return.

    Beach camping

    Clean and well maintained beach.

Great beach camping. From the east edge of Surfside Beach city limits up the coast about 6-7 miles is all open beach with Great hard pack for driving any vehicle on. Free. 14 day limit. Trash cans at each beach entrance. Please help keep the beach clean and free. Parks & Rec teams do a fantastic job of keeping the beach clean and maintained. They drove by several times each day. I was here for 2 weeks in February. Good verizon signal. No skeeters until the last few days when it got into the upper 70s and was very humid.

    Galveston Island State Park Campground

Very large RV Pads, short walk to sunrise!

The pad had 50 Amp and Water, there is a dump station as you come in or leave. The pictures on their website don’t show how large and nicely paved the area is. The table is under a large covering and you have plenty of space to enjoy the ocean breeze!
The beach is very nice and quiet (in February) and we enjoyed wonderful sunrises and walking/beach combing. There were a few mosquitos at dusk…but the seems to disappear. The walkway to beach is very smooth and accessible. There are other RV parks in the area that you have to cross the road to get to the beach, we appreciated that it was on the beach! Bath houses were nice. Seemed pretty well kept and recently built. (A couple years maybe?)

    Follett’s Island Beach

    Very peaceful, primitive camping!

We stayed for 6 nights. Don’t be intimidated by staying on the beach! As others have suggested, the sand is packed more like dirt on this beach, which made it very comfortable to drive in. Our truck and trailer were safe throughout the week. We lucked out with good weather.

Things to note: there are trash cans right near the entrance of the beach only. No water near the beach, but if you drive to San Luis Pass County Park, ask the parks staff you’re staying on the beach and hopefully they’ll let you fill up (they let us!). Otherwise, gas stations nearby are good options. This was something that may be obvious to many, but we were very surprised by the moisture on this beach. Everything was totally soaked by dusk each day, and remained wet through night due to dew/ humidity. Recommend a car/rig self-wash right as you leave at TJ’s in Clute/Freeport. As others have noted, just watch the tide predictions, and you should be good. The tide never reached us, not even close.

During the weekdays, we were sometimes the only folks we could see anywhere on the beach, which was cool. It felt nice when other campers showed up at night, tho. They mostly kept a nice distance, so it felt nice and private. It was very often patrolled by parks staff. Highly recommend if you have off-grid power capabilities and don’t mind the humidity. Enjoy!

Great campground for an extended stay

Stayed one week during the Freeze of Winter 2026! They communicated via email very well on the status of water. The facilities are very nice! The spots are tightly spaced together but there's plenty of room still to spread out.

    7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort

    Great amenities

For the most part, we love it here. There are two big fishing ponds, some beautiful bridges and walkways. There’s some swings adult swings out by the pond. There’s a pool a Jacuzzi. Our favorite part is feeding the fish. There is food down there to feed the catfish in the ponds and we love to do that that is makes our visit so much nicer here. I love the outdoors and I love wild animals and so I’m very comfortable. We’ve only met one of our neighbors. He seems to be nice enough. The ladies in the front are excellent. They have helped us and they have been very helpful and we don’t have many complaints. The only thing we could complain about is the Internet, but the price is great and the park is nice.

Guide to Stafford

Camping sites near Stafford, Texas primarily consist of developed RV parks and resorts within a 20-30 mile radius, with Brazos Bend State Park offering the closest natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts. Daytime temperatures in summer often reach 95°F with high humidity, while winter months provide milder conditions with occasional cold fronts dropping temperatures into the 40s. Most campgrounds remain open year-round due to the region's generally temperate climate.

What to do

Wildlife viewing at Brazos Bend State Park: Located about 25 miles southwest of Stafford, this park offers exceptional alligator viewing opportunities. "Brazos Bend is know as the Alligator Park…and for good reason! Of you go on a moderate temperature day (this is the key. If it is too hot or cold you won't see Gators) you can see literally dozens of massive alligators. We are talking 6 feet long and right on the pathway," notes camper Ashley C. at Brazos Bend State Park Campground.

Stargazing at the George Observatory: The observatory within Brazos Bend State Park hosts special events throughout the year. "The best part of this park is the observatory, which has special events and regular weekend hours pretty much all year. It's absolutely worth staying up late for this!" shares Kim B. The facility operates primarily on weekends and requires separate admission from the park entrance fee.

Walking and biking trails: Many camping areas near Stafford connect to community walking paths. At Highway 6 RV Resort, visitors appreciate the proximity to outdoor recreation areas. "Across the street is a county park with asphalt walking/running/biking paths around the large lake," explains Ben W., highlighting the convenient access to exercise options despite the urban setting.

What campers like

Clean, secure facilities: Camping options near Stafford prioritize maintenance and security. "This property is spotless and clean. The outdoor fire place with swings and nice seating area are an beautiful extra," notes Carola M. about Eric & Jay's RV Resort. Most campgrounds feature gated access and regularly maintained common areas.

Dog-friendly amenities: Several RV parks offer dedicated pet areas beyond standard pet policies. "They have 2 dog runs, one of them being the largest dog run we've seen at a campground so our mali really got to sprint it out. They also had a free dog wash!" reports Marie B. about Highway 6 RV Resort. Pet wash stations and dedicated exercise areas provide added convenience for travelers with animals.

Pool facilities: Swimming pools are standard at most Stafford-area RV resorts and provide relief from summer heat. "The pool is clean, bathrooms are clean, laundry room clean and looked like all the machines worked. Level concrete pads," reports Al09 S. at Eric & Jay's RV Resort, highlighting the consistency of amenities across these facilities.

What you should know

Medical center proximity: Several campgrounds specifically cater to patients seeking treatment at Houston medical facilities. Medical Center RV Resort offers "Shuttle to medical center for free," according to Jason S., making it convenient for those with healthcare appointments. Extended-stay options are available at many parks with medical center shuttles.

Highway noise levels: Traffic noise varies significantly between campgrounds and even between sites within the same facility. "The front and the back of the RV Park seem to be two different experiences," explains Erika P. about an RV resort near Stafford. Sites further from major roadways typically provide quieter settings, though complete silence is rare in this urban area.

Reservation requirements: Advance booking is essential, particularly during winter months when seasonal visitors occupy many sites. Most parks require credit card reservations and collect deposits for longer stays. Some parks also implement minimum stay requirements during peak periods from November through March.

Tips for camping with families

Observatory programs: The George Observatory at Brazos Bend offers educational night sky viewing appropriate for school-age children. "There are so many friendly astronomy enthusiasts who are willing to share a peek through their telescope (pre-covid) and share their knowledge. Be sure to help keep light pollution down in that area so everyone can enjoy the stars (no flashlights or phones out)," recommends Candy P. from Brazos Bend State Park Campground.

Park playgrounds: Most campgrounds feature playground areas for children. "Nice bathrooms and playground area. My dogs have enjoyed walking the big loops. Have also seen lots of alligators, as advertised, which has been pretty cool!" reports Jules S. about Brazos Bend State Park, noting the combination of amenities and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Weekend markets: Traders Village RV Park provides direct access to one of the area's largest flea markets. "Perfect with families with kids to wake up and go shopping and cheap all day pass rides!! This place is a Must go!!!" shares Roxanne G. about Traders Village RV Park, which offers weekend shopping and entertainment adjacent to the camping area.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: Late afternoon arrivals can be challenging due to Houston traffic patterns. Many campers recommend arriving before 3:00 PM to avoid rush hour congestion on major highways surrounding Stafford, particularly I-69 and Highway 6.

Site selection: When making reservations, request specific site information to ensure compatibility with your equipment. "The caravan parks have been spacious and well maintained, and the facilities provided were first-class," notes Stef H. about Highway 6 RV Resort, though site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds and even within the same facility.

Leveling considerations: Prepare with leveling blocks even when booking concrete pad sites. "Just a one night stay, friendly seasonals, older place that seen it's better days," reports Al M. about USA RV Park, indicating variation in pad quality among different facilities in the area.
