    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

    The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

    Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

Guide to Farmersville

RV campgrounds near Farmersville, Texas offer visitors convenient access to Lake Lavon and multiple small towns within a 30-minute drive of the eastern Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F from June through September, while winter overnight temperatures can occasionally drop below freezing. Most campgrounds in this region sit on relatively flat terrain with limited natural shade.

What to do

Fishing access points: Lakeland RV Ranch maintains 85 sites with direct proximity to Lake Lavon fishing areas where crappie and bass fishing are popular year-round. The campground provides toilets and picnic tables at each site.

Local markets: North Texas RV Park connects campers to nearby shopping with 74 full-hookup sites. The property offers water, electric, and sewer connections with market access for provisions and supplies.

Day trips: Old Rooster Creek RV Park serves as a convenient base for exploring nearby towns. With 52 sites featuring water and electric hookups, the campground provides shower facilities within walking distance of each site. The property allows both walk-in and drive-in access for travelers.

What campers like

Saltwater pool amenities: Patriot RV Park offers a saltwater swimming pool that campers appreciate during hot summer months. "Stayed for two months for my husband's work. Park manager, Becky, was helpful and nice. They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," notes reviewer Bobbie S.

Budget-friendly pricing: Monthly rates at some parks provide significant savings for longer stays. "The electricity was decently priced. For the month in the Texas heat, our bill was about $75," reports Roy O. about their experience at Dove Hill RV Park, though they noted other drawbacks to the facility.

Ease of access: Several parks feature pull-through sites that eliminate complicated backing maneuvers. "Easy pull through..easy reservation..clean park..new clean laundry..level sites," shares Cris C. about 1770 RV Park, though they mentioned highway noise from nearby I-30.

What you should know

Cell service reliability: Mobile connectivity varies significantly by provider. Lafon's RV Park offers convenient location but variable internet quality. "The Wi-Fi was not good that would be my only complaint...it's quiet. Nice laundry room with everything that works great," reported reviewer Mic R.

Road conditions: Access roads to some RV parks may be unpaved or poorly maintained. "To get there, you travel a rough dirt road that has had some oil put on it near the few houses that are there but that stops about halfway to the site. Otherwise, it is a dusty, rough road," warns a camper about one nearby facility.

Site leveling requirements: Several parks feature uneven terrain requiring additional equipment. "It appeared that the campground doesn't have any sites that approach level. It is covered solidly with rocks, not gravel and some were quite large. A few of the campers had to have their back wheels off the ground in order to get level!"

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly areas: Patriot RV Park includes a dedicated dog exercise area for traveling pets. "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," mentions one reviewer who appreciated the pet amenities during a two-month stay.

Weather considerations: Summer heat requires additional planning for family camping trips. The region regularly exceeds 95°F from June through August, with high humidity levels making afternoon outdoor activities challenging for young children.

Recreational facilities: Some parks provide limited recreational amenities for children. Countryside RV Park maintains 92 sites with electric hookups, though families should note the absence of water hookups at individual sites.

Tips from RVers

Level site selection: Choose sites carefully as terrain varies significantly between parks. At Lafon's RV Park, one camper noted "gravel roads and pads" that provided relatively stable parking for larger vehicles.

Laundry facilities: Several parks offer on-site laundry services. "They have a nice laundry room and mailboxes on site. They offer short or long term living," shares Sonny R. about one rv campground near Farmersville, Texas.

Drainage issues: Heavy rainfall may affect some lower-elevation campsites. "We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet. Have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain. It does go away quickly, but should be aware of this if you have lots of outside things or a pet."
