Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Damon, TX

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Brazos Bend State Park Campground allows dogs throughout its grounds while maintaining multiple trails where alligator sightings are common. Pet owners must keep dogs leashed at all times on the park's hiking and biking paths to protect both wildlife and pets. The campground features spacious sites with water and electric hookups, fire pits, and picnic tables where campers and their pets can relax. Eric and Jay's RV Resort also welcomes pets and provides full hookup sites near a stocked fishing pond. Campsites throughout the Damon area maintain standard pet policies requiring owners to clean up after their animals and prevent excessive barking. Dogs are prohibited from entering park buildings except for service animals. The fully stocked pond for fishing and gas fireplace pit offer evening relaxation spots where leashed pets can join their owners.

Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground offers pet-friendly accommodations with trails suitable for dog walking through hardwood forests. Pets must be attended at all times when outside and should be secured when owners leave the campsite temporarily. Wildlife encounters are common in the area, requiring vigilance when walking dogs, particularly during dawn and dusk hours when animals are most active. Morning trail walks provide cooler temperatures for dogs during summer months when afternoon heat can be dangerous for pets. Multiple campgrounds in the region offer both primitive tent camping and RV sites with hookups where pets are welcome. Pet owners should pack extra water, portable bowls, and waste bags as park facilities may have limited pet-specific amenities. Veterinary services are available in nearby Richmond and Sugar Land for emergency pet care.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

Great rv campground close to airport

Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles, laundry facilities, a small camp store, and pet friendly with two small dog parks. The best thing about the location is that it backs up to Tom Bass park that has wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf. Would definitely be staying here again!

    Serendipity Bay RV Resort

Peaceful but sites too close together

Very well-maintained and pet-friendly RV park with various amenities such as a pool, fishing pier, and dog park. Sites are very close together with little room to set up outside between RVs. Very little room to park vehicle once RV is in place and limited space to back in. Enjoyed the peaceful sunrises and sunsets and the constant breeze was a plus to keep the humidity and heat down. Take plenty of anti-mosquito repellent, as around mid-morning and late afternoon, the mosquitoes come out in force. A good location for those wishing to fish, but not sightseeing. The town has very few amenities and only a couple of restaurants and small stores.

    Traders Village RV Park

Houston, Tx…..Nothing to get excited about

It’s a large campground and spaces are very small. There’s a grass strip between camp sites. No picnic tables or grills. The office gave us a map and showed us how to get to our site but virtually impossible to understand. A very nice gentleman that stayed here took us to our site. He said they have no idea how to do directions and a buddy of his really messed up his camper by trolling around looking for their site. It’s very crowded and no room for awnings or for both campers side by side to put out awnings. There is a pool but it doesn’t look well maintained and there’s absolutely no chairs. Just the pool and it’s small. Laundry room is large. There’s no dog park or anywhere to walk your dog. Signs everywhere that say no pets, yet they are allowed. The flea market is only on the wknd. It’s close to a lot of restaurants and in a nice area.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

    A lot of Amenities

The park is clean, but the sites are tight. The further you get to the front the louder the traffic noise is, but the sites are larger and spaced out more. It is a five and take. It has three locations with washer and dryers, two dog parks, a recreation room and easy access to Tom Bass park.

    Galveston Island KOA Holiday

    Great Beach Camping!

This is a great resort just 20 minutes from the busy Strand and Seawall area. The resort is very nice and extremely clean with ample spots. There is a pool, lazy river, dog park and just a short walk to the beach. The staff was extremely nice and helpful and there is nice area to purchase drinks and snacks and relax near the pool. We will definitely be going back!

    Galveston Island KOA Holiday

    Amazing week by the beach!!

What a great park!! We had been there a couple years ago, before it was a KOA and glad it still had the same feel!! We LOVED it!! The weather was perfect, the beach is accross the highway (easy to walk to) and there are multiple beaches along the island that you can drive to and some, even drive on!! The park had a pool, lazy river, dog park, cabins, nice laundryroom and adult beverages served at the office as well as available in their store. The staff was awesome and they keep you informed by text about goings on in the park. We booked again for next year!

Guide to Damon

Campgrounds near Damon, Texas offer diverse outdoor experiences within the coastal prairie landscape. The area sits at a relatively low elevation of 55 feet above sea level with a humid subtropical climate featuring mild winters and hot summers. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while spring and fall months provide more comfortable camping conditions with temperatures between 65-85°F.

What to do

Stargazing at observatory: Brazos Bend State Park features an impressive astronomy program with regular weekend events. "The best part of this park is the observatory, which has special events and regular weekend hours pretty much all year. It's absolutely worth staying up late for this!" notes Kim B. about Brazos Bend State Park Campground.

Wildlife photography trails: The park's trail system offers excellent opportunities to photograph native wildlife. "If you want to see alligators in their natural habitat this is the park for you. There were so many. We even came across one on the trail eating a snake," reports Rebecca about Brazos Bend State Park Campground.

Fishing in stocked ponds: Several campgrounds maintain fishing areas for guests. At Eric and Jays RV Resort, "There is a fully stocked pond for fishing and a gas fireplace pit to sit around in the evenings," according to Carlyne F.

Nature center educational programs: Brazos Bend offers hands-on wildlife education. "There is a small nature centre where you can pet baby Gators and learn about them. Lots of pretty trails and look outs," shares Ashley C.

What campers like

Level, spacious campsites: Campers appreciate the well-maintained sites at area parks. "In my opinion, the camper pads are really nice. Long and wide can accommodate small or large campers and motorhomes," notes Red S. about Brazos Bend State Park Campground.

Shaded campsites: Tree cover provides welcome relief from the Texas heat. Jim P. reports about Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground: "While we were there we saw an abundance of deer and bunnies, plus we were able to listen in on a conversation between a very large owl who had taken up residence in one of the trees by our site."

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards. "VERY clean campground. Very happy with the tidiness and keep up of it. The staff were great at check in. Sites are far enough away that you have privacy," writes Jules S. about Brazos Bend.

Modern amenities: Some resorts offer unexpected extras. At Brazoria Lakes RV Resort, "Beautiful resort! Stocked fishing lake, swimming pool, game room, gym. Beautiful outdoor kitchens w/tv's," according to Rachel L.

What you should know

Wildlife awareness: Alligator encounters require vigilance. "Brazos Bend is know as the Alligator Park…and for good reason! Of you go on a moderate temperature day (this is the key. If it is too hot or cold you won't see Gators) you can see literally dozens of massive alligators," advises Ashley C.

Mosquito preparation: Insect protection is essential in this humid area. "If you go in the summer you need to watch out for mosquitoes," warns Joseph P. about Brazos Bend.

Construction impacts access: Road construction can complicate arrivals. Napunani warns about Stephen F. Austin State Park: "Due to Interstate 10 construction, the eastbound exit for San Felipe is closed so the navigation system took us further East and then backtracked on some horrible condition rural roads."

Seasonal crowds: Houston residents frequently visit these parks. "Nice trails but very busy on weekends as Houstonians escape the city for some country fun!" notes Napunani about Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Short trail options: Multiple parks offer family-friendly hiking. "Most of the trails were short (less than a mile), so if you are looking for a place for moderate or extreme hiking, it is not here, but for the kids, these were perfect!" explains Brittany S. about Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Pet-friendly policies: Dog friendly campgrounds near Damon typically allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. "The sites come with full hook ups, but are slightly uneven. There was a busy road behind us that could be loud at times, but other than that we were quite happy with the park," reports Carlyne F. about Eric and Jays RV Resort, which welcomes pets.

Educational opportunities: Wildlife viewing provides learning experiences. "We loved seeing the gators, especially when the babies were hatching (spot dozens of babies in the photos)," shares Candy P. about Brazos Bend.

Evening activities: Several campgrounds offer community areas. "We had live music and food trucks available," mentions Ethan B. about Eric and Jays RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Many campgrounds offer comprehensive services. "Full hookups with 30 amps. Semi circle drive thru that fit my 44 ft motorhome and towed Jeep," notes James R. about Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Leveling requirements: Sites may need adjustment for comfort. "The site required leveling side-to-side," reports Napunani about Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Pull-through access: Some parks accommodate larger rigs. "Aside from the fact that the park is very well maintained and there is an abundance of wildlife, you get pull through sites with full hook ups on the cheap!" enthuses Jim P. about Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Quiet location options: For peaceful camping near Damon, TX, certain parks offer tranquility. "Only spent a night here, but it was VERY quiet, completely dead-flat level site, with electric (30 amp). Beware of fire ants," shares Mark M. about Shiloh RV Park, a dog-friendly camping option.
