      Clarksville RV Resort by Rjourney

      Okay for a Short Stay

The campground(CG) is easy to get to off I-24. We checked in and proceeded unescorted to site 22 with FHUs. The utilities are centered on the gravel pad and it was nice to have two sewer holes as our rig has two black tanks. We needed to flush each tank well, as we were heading to our home base near St. Louis. The water pressure was good at 50 psi and we got 3 bars 5G. There are a lot of mature trees so satellite may be iffy. We did not put out our Starlink for this one-night stay. Their free WiFi was okay. They accommodate both short stays, transient workers, and permanent parties. Not sure we’d call this place a“resort,” but they do have a small dog park, pool, laundry, dump station, and propane fills. This was our second time overnighting at this park. The first time we were closer to the interstate and this time we were at the front of the CG. It did not matter as this CG has the most interstate noise of any we’ve stayed.

      Buffalo I-40-Exit 143 KOA

      Hurricane Mills, TN…Not for us

Pro: It’s a well maintained resort. Had a decent dog park. Sites were nicely spaced. Check in was a breeze and we were shown to our site by a very nice lady. Lots of trees and flowers and quiet. Easy in and out. Cons: We had a corner site and we were really too long for the site, we’re 42’ long. The electric and water were all in one spot which was at the very end of the camper. We’ve been on this journey for 10 months so not our first rodeo. As the lady left a man rolls up in his cart and informs us that we need to pull up farther because it would be a tight squeeze for anyone to navigate around us. Which he wasn’t wrong but perhaps a more appropriate site could have been given us since we had a reservation for weeks. We told him if we pulled up farther we couldn’t reach the hose connection. He arrogantly told us that we should have a 50’ hose as most people do just for these circumstances. He also said we could buy one in their store. I asked if they possibly had another site that might fit the rig better. He said he thought they were full for the night but I could ask! That pretty much set the tone for the stay and for this review. Not sure if he was the owner or a grounds keeper. The sites were on hills- which it is Tennessee…but we had a difficult time getting our camper level as it went down hill due to the fact we had to pull up so far it set the camper downhill. It has auto leveling and could never get it level where we sat, kept giving us an error code. This system won’t allow you to level manually. We have 4 slides and it was difficult to get them out not being level. The bedroom slide came out enough for us to open the bed out. The fact that the camper was at such a slant it was not good for the slides obviously because it was so un-level that the jacks wouldn’t go down. It was pretty bouncy and you picked up speed walking from one end to the other. We were glad it was just one night.

Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground

      RV Park and RV Repair!

Parker’s Crossroads is located very conveniently off of I-40 and the park is gorgeous! They have some long term campers, storage, and an RV Repair Center on site. The shop inside has more parts then we have ever seen at an RV Park. While here we needed a switch for a water heater, they had it!

The campground had some narrow roads and some less than level sites but they were all doable. They have a nice pool area, spaces for dogs to be walked (on leash), pet waste disposal, cabins, and full hook ups.

The park was very quiet and clean, well kept. They have large mature trees, and great landscaping.

The cellular service for TMobile and AT&T we’re both decent and streaming video was possible each night.

    Guide to Waverly

Montgomery Bell State Park offers both drive-in and hike-in options for campers traveling with dogs, with some sites located directly beside creeks for easy water access. The region experiences moderate rainfall throughout the year, with summer temperatures typically reaching 85-90°F during peak camping season. Winter camping remains popular as temperatures rarely drop below freezing for extended periods in this central Tennessee location.

    What to do

Hiking near waterways: Montgomery Bell State Park provides multiple trail options including creek-side paths. "Great family friendly park with lots of hiking and historical sites. There is a beautiful waterfall and an adorable old church," notes Faith S. The park features a mix of terrain suitable for various skill levels.

Fishing from shore: Birdsong Resort and Marina Lakeside RV and Tent Campground offers easy shore fishing access. "Quiet, near shopping, family oriented, Pet friendly, boat launch, shore fishing, store, pull through sites, friendly helpful staff," reports Cheryl Ann G. The lake provides habitat for bass, crappie, and catfish.

Swimming in natural waters: The Piney River at Piney River Resort provides natural swimming holes. "We swam and waded in the (very clean) river and watched kids jumping off of the rock ledge," according to Susan & Kevin W. The river depth varies, with designated swimming areas marked at most access points.

    What campers like

Quiet atmosphere despite highway proximity: I-40 Hideaway maintains a peaceful environment despite its location. "We thought the traffic noise would be bad being so close to I40 but we didn't even hear it," shares AdventureStang. Many dog friendly campgrounds near Waverly maintain buffer zones between camping areas and roads.

Level sites with hookups: Tanbark Campground provides reasonably level camping spots for RVs and tents. "Pull thru sites. Bathroms were clean and close. There are some fulltime campers but for the price you cant complain," writes Charles M. Most sites include water and electrical hookups with varying amp service.

Bathroom facilities: While amenities vary across campgrounds, several maintain clean facilities. "Bathhouse was really nice, felt new and was very clean. The staff and park rangers were very nice," notes Shana D. about Paris Landing State Park Campground. Most facilities offer shower access for campers.

    What you should know

Varying site sizes: Montgomery Bell State Park campground has limitations during busy periods. "This place is OK when it's not a busy weekend. We stayed on Memorial Day Weekend and it's was completely full. When it's full, it's just TOO full. Too many people, dogs and kids that are too close together," explains Jody A.

Uneven terrain at some locations: Paris Landing State Park Campground has topography challenges. "Most sites are small, but there are a few longer ones. Seems like many are unlevel. Our picnic table was at a very noticeable slant," reports Shana D. Proper leveling equipment is recommended for RVs.

Limited cell service: Connectivity varies between pet-friendly campgrounds. "Only 1 bar of service with AT&T," mentions Shana D. about Paris Landing. Planning for limited connectivity helps prevent frustration during stays.

    Tips for camping with families

Choose creek-side sites for kid entertainment: Montgomery Bell State Park Campground offers water-adjacent camping spots. "We really enjoyed our spot by the creek. Children can wade in the creek all day, why parents enjoy sitting outside under all the shade trees," shares Tammy P. These sites fill quickly during summer months.

Select campgrounds with dedicated play areas: Family-oriented facilities often include recreational spaces. "With a great pavilion, Vb court, ball diamond, and playground, the far side of the camp is perfect for families, groups, and events," states Stæven F. about Montgomery Bell. Most playgrounds welcome leashed dogs nearby but not within play equipment areas.

Pack for variable weather conditions: Tennessee experiences sudden weather changes even in summer. "We were there for an awesome thunderstorm," notes AdventureStang about their stay at I-40 Hideaway. Having shelter options for pets during storms helps maintain a positive camping experience.

    Tips from RVers

Check site orientation before booking: Paris Landing has layout challenges for RVs. "It's a tight fit and our rig is only 22.5' TT. Our back in site was to the left on a one way road that I had to turn around and go opposite way so we could get in," shares Todd M. Many pet-friendly campgrounds near Waverly have similar configuration issues.

Book river-facing sites when available: At Piney River Resort, waterfront locations offer premium experiences. "We are on the river side. Spaces are nicely spaced. Views are perfect. Staff is very nice. The non river side is the same as most rv spots," explains Alanna R. These sites provide easier access for dog walking and water activities.

Consider reservation timing for holiday weekends: Popular dog-friendly campgrounds fill quickly. "Make your reservations early!! Beautiful area lakes, groomed trails, nice hosts - highly recommend," advises Andrea R. about Montgomery Bell State Park. Most campgrounds allow reservations 6-12 months in advance for peak periods.
