Best RV Parks & Resorts near Summerton, SC

Palmetto Shores RV Resort near Summerton provides full hookup sites with 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections for recreational vehicles. Several miles east, RV's Acres offers more limited amenities with 30-amp electric and water hookups but no sewer connections at its two available sites. Hill's Landing & RV Park maintains 60 RV sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, though some sites have tight spacing between units. Johnston Landing Campground accommodates larger motorhomes with pull-through sites and full hookup capabilities. "Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible," noted one visitor about a nearby RV park.

Throughout the region, RV travelers should note varying cell service quality, with most parks reporting adequate Verizon coverage but spotty service from other carriers. Dump stations are available at Palmetto Shores and several state parks within driving distance. Many campgrounds remain open year-round, though summer humidity makes spring and fall more comfortable for RV camping. According to one camper, "The plumbing at each site is housed in whiskey barrels which we thought was a clever idea. Most sites had sewer as well." Big rig access requires careful navigation on some secondary roads leading to campgrounds, particularly after heavy rainfall when gravel access roads may develop washouts or soft spots.

    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Nice sites!

Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible. Very open and quiet. Several long-term residents.

    Tiny Town RV Campground

    Nice Campground, Great Location

Family owned RV campground with full hook-ups and a food truck on the property! We were there on a Thursday evening and had delicious chicken street tacos. Easy to get in and out of the campground with our 28 foot travel trailer. Pull thru, level sites. Peaceful location surrounded by trees. You can hear the birds chirping and the neighbor's rooster while you sit outside enjoying the morning sun. All the sites have 20, 30 and 50 amp power, and a water hook up. The plumbing at each site is housed in whiskey barrels which we thought was a clever idea. Most sites had sewer as well. We had a picnic table and fire ring at our site also. Our Verizon phones worked fine with 4G, two bars. The campground is new, and small(16 sites) which we liked. The owners have plans to add activities and events in the near future but it currently has everything an RV camper would need. They were working on an axe throwing building and an activity area for kids when we were there. It's in a great location for exploring Summerville or Charleston, or for spending the day at one of the many nearby beaches. They offer a discount if staying a week which is wonderful since there is so much to do in the nearby towns.

    Eagle's RV Campground

    Ranger Review: Eagle’s RV Campground

We called to reserve a week long stay and were told they had sites available, which turned out was only one. The campground is definitely a “no frills” park and mostly used by long term/permanent residents. The host/owner had us pull right next to his own rig, it was a tight fit and we had zero privacy. He then proceeded to sit on his RV stairs and smoke and stare at us both when we were outside and when we were in our rig. We could smell the smoke which isn’t ok with us. We didn’t even bother to put the slides out. When we set up the electricity we had fire ants attack us. We decided quickly that we’d only stay the night and we’d leave first thing in the morning. Across the street is a nice state park and campground (Colleton State Park) but they unfortunately didn’t have any sites open big enough for our 30 ft class A. I’d recommend staying there over this campground if you want to be in this exact area. We luckily found another campground closer to Charleston to stay at.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    We will be back!

Even though we had a few rainy days we could see the beauty of this park. Clean heated restrooms in Winter is a bonus. Lots of things to do for all ages. Helpful and friendly staff.

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Colleton State Park Campground

Really well-kept quiet little state park

This one one of the cutest, most well-maintained State Park Campgrounds we’ve been to. The groundskeeper Larry is the nicest man and was so welcoming from booking to departure. You can tell he takes pride in caring for his site. There’s a nice big field for the dogs to play in and we were able to rent kayaks from the outfitter across the creek to explore the Edisto River. There’s a good burger place 3 miles down the road (Lee’s) too. The cell and WiFi worked great for full time remote work and locationally Colleton is about 1 hour between Charleston, Savannah, and Congaree National Park. I think this is also the smallest state park in South Carolina.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Needs improvements

Not a big rig friendly area. Our site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side. Had I known this ahead of time, I could have maybe pulled in another way. The service from another site was less than 3 feet from my power inlet to the camper. I called to make sure it would be ok to plug in there and they said no, even though no one used that site. The bathhouse was well below standards and really just unusable. I’ll pick another place if I’m ever in the area again.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Cypress View Campground

This is one of the two campgrounds at Santee State Park, and it is as different from the other as night and day. Unlike the dirt roads at Lakeshore Campground(the other campground in the park) the roads in Cypress View are paved. The sites are gravel, and many of them are pull-through sites. Although tent camping is allowed in Cypress View, I would feel out of place since most of the campers are RVs. However, our teardrop camper fits right in. Cypress View is a much smaller campground than Lakeshore Campground, but the amenities are the same. Every campsite is a short walk from the lake, and the campground is closer to the store than Lakeshore Campground. Unlike Lakeshore Campground, Cypress View Campground’s sites are much closer together, so there is not as much privacy. The campground is quiet, other than the noise from the highway.   That may be one reason to be in an RV or a travel trailer--to cut out some of the noise at night.

Close to the campground, there is a tennis court, a boat launch, Fisheagle Tours, a picnic shelter, kayak rentals, hiking trails, and more. It is conveniently located to most of the state park’s attractions without having to drive so far. Cypress View Campground is also close to the main office and the boat dock.

If you had rather stay in a cabin, there are cabin rentals on the water. They are accessed by way of a boardwalk across the water. The bath house is modern and has hot showers. It is centrally located so that it isn’t that far of a walk from any of the campsites.

Overall, I do recommend this campground, especially if you are in a travel trailer or an RV. If you are tent camper, you would probably better enjoy being at the other campground in the park.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

Nice Park. Not great for large RV’s

It’s a nice park with great amenities. The splash pad up front is awesome for kids.

Our only complaint is that most sites are very uneven. If you have a large camper/RV it may be tough to get your rig level. That being said site #21 worked well for our 40 foot fifth wheel. We had to use some blocks and a few attempts, but were able to make it happen.

Also, if your camper is over 25 feet I wouldn’t even bother booking a site on the second loop. It is pretty tight back there.

Guide to Summerton

RV camping near Summerton, South Carolina centers around Lakes Marion and Moultrie, with both bodies of water connected by the Diversion Canal. The region maintains average summer temperatures between 75-90°F from May through September, while winter nights can drop to 30-40°F. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though spring and fall offer the most comfortable camping conditions with lower humidity levels.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie provide excellent fishing locations for striped bass, channel catfish, and bream. At Hill's Landing & RV Park, which sits between both lakes, visitors appreciate the "beautiful, clean" environment that's "highly recommend for fishing!" according to Cathy P.

Boating access: Many campgrounds offer boat rentals for exploring the waterways. Stuart K. notes that at Johnston Landing Campground & Cabins, "the good people here have you covered as they offer a paddle boat, kayaks and a row boat for rent," making water activities accessible even if you don't bring your own vessel.

Hiking trails: The Palmetto Trail lies approximately 5 miles from some lakeside campgrounds and features sunken giant cypress trees. A visitor describes it as "one of the best hikes in all of South Carolina" where "you'll be able to witness first hand the sunken giant Cypress trees, amazing bird watching (Ospreys and Herons in particular)."

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds provide generous spacing between RV sites. At Palmetto Shores RV Resort, Douglas T. mentions, "We both really enjoyed our stay. The dogs loved the dog park and I appreciated having bags to pick up after them... Big park with a nice views of the water."

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting attracts various wildlife species. Mark B. at RV's Acres reports, "The last time I was here (4 days ago) 2 does & a fawn came lopping/walking through the property. There is a beautiful private pond on property and the owner does allow catch/release."

Peaceful settings: Campers consistently mention the quiet atmosphere. At Black Pearl Farms, John B. describes the camping experience as "Beautiful, well maintained site beside the Edisto river, just as advertised! Private, peaceful, just what we were looking for."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: While most RV sites near Summerton, South Carolina operate year-round, certain attractions have peak seasons. At Black Pearl Farms, Robert G. simply recommends visitors "Come in May" for "Fresh blueberries!"

Access challenges: Some campgrounds require careful navigation on secondary roads. Kathleen R. warns about finding Black Pearl Farms: "CAUTION: The directions provided by The Dyrt to this location are incorrect. It is not located on Sand Hill. So please use Google Maps to find the location or you will be down a long dirt road with no place to turn around."

Advance booking: During peak seasons, reservations are recommended. At Big Rig Friendly RV Resort, Lisa E. shares, "We were able to reserve online and even pick our camping spot. It has full hookups and we were able to find the spot easily even in the dark."
