    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Seneca, South Carolina features several lakefront campgrounds along the shores of Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee, making it a popular destination for water-based camping experiences. South Cove County Park, located directly on Lake Keowee's peninsula, offers water views from nearly every campsite with full hookup options for RVs and limited tent sites. Twin Lakes at Lake Hartwell provides waterfront access with both RV and tent camping opportunities. Other developed facilities in the region include Oconee Point, Mile Creek County Park, and Keowee Falls RV Park, all situated within 15 miles of Seneca's town center. The best Seneca campgrounds combine scenic lakefront locations with convenient access to the town's amenities.

Most campgrounds in the area provide water and electric hookups, with many offering 50-amp service for larger RVs. The campground gates typically lock at night, requiring advance planning for arrivals. According to one visitor, "The campground has a gate that gets locked at 10 pm. You can leave but you can't come back into the campground after the gate gets locked." Seasonal considerations include summer heat that makes waterfront sites without shade challenging, while fall brings cooler temperatures ideal for camping. Winter camping is available but with reduced services at most campgrounds. Most sites require reservations, especially during peak summer months and Clemson University football weekends.

Waterfront camping represents the primary draw for visitors to the Seneca area, with clear views of both Lake Keowee and Lake Hartwell mentioned frequently in reviews. "Beautiful tiered campsites. In the last year there has been many upgrades to the existing sites," noted one camper about South Cove County Park. Sites directly on the water allow for swimming access from campsites at several locations, while designated swimming beaches are available at others. RV sites typically feature gravel pads with water, electric, and often sewer hookups. Tent campers have more limited options, with most designated tent sites located at South Cove and Twin Lakes. Wildlife encounters are common, with several reviews mentioning geese at South Cove and skunks at Twin Lakes that generally don't bother campers but require awareness, especially for those with pets.

Sarah's Creek Campground — Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest

Very remote, with challenging access road.

The campground is VERY remote with challenging access. We have a 4x4 pickup and still not sure how comfortable we would be attempting to take our 21' travel trailer to it.

I'll estimate that the access road is a very rough 4-5 miles and while it starts out as paved the road becomes packed dirt (red clay) and quickly narrows and winds through the hills at a sometimes steep incline. The opportunities to pull over should someone approach from the other direction are few and would mean a lengthy backup for someone. Not sure I would recommend the road in a passenger vehicle.

The campsites we visited were nice and well trimmed, many were creekfront and there were bear-proof trash receptacles and vault toilets. Each site also had a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern pole.

During our visit it was peaceful and mostly empty.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

Beautiful park with plenty to do....but campground had a few shortcomings.

We stayed on site #25 in early August but due to the elevation the weather was mild.

There were plenty of activities to keep us busy at the park and the staff was friendly and helpful.

One thing that surprised us and worth mentioning is that even though the park is massive, the campground appears to have been an afterthought as it, and the sites are generally very small. It would be nice to see them expand it and make the changes to increase the size of sites.

Also, as we have seen at other parks kids on e-bikes is becoming a real problem and safety concern. Young children, many not wearing helmets, continually racing around the campground with no regard for speed limits or traffic signs. It is a recipe for an injury or an unfortunate fatality.

Hopefully parks will begin addressing this issue.

Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground

Natural beauty and friendly professional staff.

We stayed on site 06 and had enjoyed a week of relaxation, adventure, and friendly acquaintances.

Since it was July-August the weather across most of the south was extremely hot, but temps most days at Black Rock were mild in the 70's with cool evenings.

We hiked several of the parks trails which we found strikingly beautiful, and also took the time to visit the Foxfire historical exhibit, well worth the price of admission.

I cannot be more appreciative of the staff, camp hosts and rangers, who were so friendly and to the time to talk to visitors at every opportunity.

One evening during our stay local authorities alerted of the potential danger of a tornado in the area. The hosts and ranger responded politely and professionally visiting every campsite to make sure everyone moved to the bathhouses for safety until the treat had passed.

It was nice to know that during a potentially hazardous situation that they took everyone's safely seriously.

Absolutely love the park and staff !!

      Soggy Boot Campground

      Great secluded spot

The spot I found wasn’t the same site I heard in the reviews. It was a peaceful stay near a creek. It looked like an opening on the other side of the creek if you crossed it but I wasn’t about that life that night lol it was late.

      Lake Rabun Beach Recreation Area

      Wonderful place

We have been here a few times and love it. The hosts are kind and check on everyone throughout the day. There is a lot of room between the camp sites. There is a lot to do in the area. The bathrooms are clean and grounds well maintained.

Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground

      Beautiful park with outstanding staff.

Enjoyed a week long stay in late July, being at a higher elevation the weather was great. Sunny and comfortable during the day and cool crisp evenings in the 60's.

The access road is a bit steep but wasn't too bad for our RAM 4x4 pulling a 21 ft. trailer.

There are some larger sites but many of them are on the short side so be sure to confirm it will be deep enough for your needs before reserving.

I have to give a big kudos for the volunteer camp hosts on site, one night at dark there was a storm/tornada watch issues and the hosts and park ranger went to every site and advised everyone to seek shelter in the bathhouses.

The storm passed in about an hour and everyone was safe, but it is GREAT to know that the staff responded in a professional manner to assure everyone's safety.

Loved our stay, everyone was friendly and pleasant, hope we can get back again soon.

      Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

      Unexpected adventure

Originally intended to do some car camping after a day of hiking but I ended up reserving a camp site and grabbing a tent from a near by Walmart and I enjoyed every minute of it. This may not matter to most but it may matter to some...I am a black male and although I didn't see many people that looked like me, everyone was extremely friendly. Definitely got a lot more attention than I would have liked but at least I knew pple were looking out for me lol. Beautiful scenery, fun trails, fishing, a full outdoor experience.

      Peaceful Cove Campground

      Great little campground!

We rented Andy’s RV and had a great time! Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate until the end of our trip, but the camper was superb. Fully stocked with everything we needed - even the makings for s’mores. If you’re looking for a campground with lots of amenities, this is not for you. If you want a great, peaceful place to stay on the river, it’s perfect. Nearby attractions in Franklin and Cherokee. 5+ stars!!
