Shenango Campground's pet-friendly sites offer convenient lake access for dogs and their owners across all accommodation types, including tent camping, RVs, and cabins. Electric and non-electric sites welcome pets throughout the 300+ campsite property on Shenango River Lake. Dogs must remain on leash in all areas of the campground, with several loops offering waterfront access where pets can cool off. Pymatuning State Park Campground, Adventure Bound Shenango Valley, and Chestnut Ridge Park also accommodate pets with spacious sites. The camp hosts at Chestnut Ridge are particularly helpful to pet owners, providing assistance with setup and offering pet-specific information. Many campers note the importance of keeping pets leashed due to local wildlife and the presence of other camping families with small children.

Dog-friendly hiking opportunities surround the Sharpsville area campgrounds, with several trails accessible from both Shenango and Pymatuning sites. The lakefront locations provide excellent swimming opportunities for water-loving dogs during summer months, though owners should check for blue-green algae warnings before allowing pets in the water. Quiet hours from 10 PM to 6 AM are strictly enforced at Shenango Recreation Area, so pets prone to barking may need additional consideration. When visiting with pets, bringing extra towels proves essential as the lake access points can get muddy after rainfall. The area features several veterinary clinics within a 20-minute drive, with the closest emergency animal hospital located in Hermitage. Several camping loops at Shenango provide easy access to water spigots, helpful for refilling dog water bowls during hot summer days.

      Silver Springs Campground

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

      Goddard Park Vacationland Campground

      Near Beautiful Lake Wilhelm

Nice park with very friendly staff. My only complaint is the sites are way too crowded. Also a little uneven. I love that this park is close to Lake Wilhelm & Goddard State Park for fishing and bike riding. 2 pools and a dog park.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

Rose Point Park Cabins & Camping

      Family and pet friendly

OverLl great campground. The sites are a little close together but we still enjoyed our time there. Staff is super friendly and there was plenty for the kids to do, pool, arcade, fishing, and playground. Decent size dog park to let your dogs run and decent trails nearby.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

    Guide to Sharpsville

Shenango River Lake offers prime camping terrain around its 11-mile waterfront, with the lake's 15,000+ acres providing recreation from April through October. Most campgrounds sit at elevations between 900-1,100 feet, creating moderate temperatures that average 71°F in summer. Sites across the region's campgrounds feature a mix of wooded and open terrain, with clay soils that can become muddy after rainfall.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Shenango River Lake supports walleye, muskie, and crappie fishing, particularly in the deeper channels. At RV Village Camping Resort, visitors appreciate the nearby lake access. As one camper notes, "This by far the nicest family campground that we stayed in... We got the greatest spot available for a very reasonable price."

Boating access: Multiple boat launches around the lake accommodate watercraft of various sizes. Shenango Campground has sites where visitors can tie up personal watercraft. According to one visitor, "I love the fact that you can tie your boat or wave runner right at most of the sites."

Playground facilities: Most campgrounds in the area feature playgrounds for children. As one visitor to Pymatuning State Park explains, "If you have younger kids, this site is for you. The playground is right there as is the beach."

    What campers like

Waterfront access: Many sites offer direct lake views and water access for swimming or launching small craft. One camper at Pymatuning State Park Jamestown Campground shares, "We took our bikes to Meadville to do the Ernst bike trail (recommended - a paved, flat, easy 6.3 mile cycling trail through the woods and along the river)."

Wildlife viewing: Bald eagles, blue herons, and various songbirds frequent the lake shores. A visitor mentions, "The bald eagles sit in the trees not at all bothered by us. Amazing."

Quiet atmosphere: Several campgrounds maintain peaceful environments with strictly enforced quiet hours. At Quiet and Secluded, a camper notes, "Beautiful spot. Clean amenities!" highlighting the tranquil setting popular with nature enthusiasts.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds operate from April through October, with limited availability in off-season months. The busiest times are June-August, particularly holiday weekends when advance reservations are essential.

Site spacing variations: Some electric sites are closely positioned, while non-electric sites often provide more privacy. As one camper at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground observed, "Level gravel sites with really great grassy areas... It is beautifully set up with a small lake for swimming, playgrounds, pavillions, games, events, music etc."

Reservation windows: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Sharpsville open reservations 6 months in advance, with holiday weekends filling quickly. Weekdays typically have better availability even during peak season.

Weather considerations: Summer thunderstorms are common, with rapid weather changes. One camper noted, "Started the stay off a little rocky with two big thunderstorms the first two days. Our site had a wash run right through it."

    Tips for camping with families

Beach access planning: The swimming beaches at several pet-friendly campgrounds near Sharpsville have different operating schedules. One camper advises, "After those days it was very nice and we got to enjoy Jamestown beach and playground."

Playground proximities: Choose sites near playgrounds if traveling with young children. One visitor to Pymatuning State Park recommends, "If you have younger kids, this site is for you. The playground is right there as is the beach."

Hiking with children: Several short, kid-friendly trails under 2 miles circle the campgrounds. A visitor recommends bringing bikes as "we were able to bike down to the beach for swimming."

Safety considerations: The lake depth increases quickly in some swimming areas. Parents should note that not all beaches have lifeguards on duty, especially during weekdays.

    Tips from RVers

Dump station timing: Plan dump station use strategically as lines form during peak checkout times. At Shenango Campground, "There's a two-lane dump station located near the entrance but there is no potable water."

Electric options: Electric sites (30/50 amp) are limited and book quickly. One RVer at Shenango notes, "We quickly found out that our 50 AMP connection had issues and after reporting it, a maintenance crew came within 20 minutes and fixed a bad breaker."

Navigation challenges: RV GPS systems may suggest problematic routes to some campgrounds. As one camper warned, "We use both the RV Garmin 890 & RV Trip Wizard and both had us doing some crazy side roads to get into the KOA. Be sure to use the park's directions for an easier drive in."

Site selection for larger rigs: Many campgrounds have both back-in and pull-through sites, with varying degrees of levelness. One RVer recommended, "If we were to stay at this CG again, we'd come during the week and get a dry camping site on the water."
