    Wine Country RV Park

    Quiet Overnight in Wine Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as an “along the way” stay — grounds that you seek out for a night or two as a place to simply stay the night along your journey to regroup and get some sleep. Ratings for this category are based on: Cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, level ground, accessibility): 4 Noise: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Layout: 4 Customer Service: 5

We only stayed at Wine Country RV Park as an overnight along our way, however, this could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area and this park is in the midst of them all.

The staff is quite friendly and they offer tastings from local wineries in their community room frequently. It’s worth mentioning that mask-wearing seems to be finished here. To each their own, but I know it’s still very important to some.

The grounds are mostly well-kept though we did see some dog poop as we were walking around and some long term residents that took up more than their own space. The grounds are big-rig friendly and there is some grass between spaces. Premium sites have concrete pads while the lower cost sites are just gravel. The pads are mostly level, but slope upwards in some spots so unhitching can be just a little tricky. There is no privacy between sites, but the sites are wide enough for slide outs and chairs. Hookups were good, wifi was good enough for streaming (the park was only about 1/4 full while we were there). There is a pool and hot tub, both of which were closed for winter, and a small playground and basketball hoop for kids.

Price is reasonable, if a little high, for being in the middle of a bunch of wineries, and they take Good Sam and other membership discounts. The area is quaint with lots of farms (and some of the smells that go along with it). There is a cute bakery just over the bridge in the historic area of town called Jade’s. Give them a visit! Also, for runners/walkers/bikers... there is a very long path system that goes from Prosser and along the highway for miles into Sunnyside! It’s accessible about 1/2 mile from the park. Also walking distance is Vintner’s Village with a series of tasting rooms to visit.

A nice find for both passing through or staying a while longer if you’re into wines!

Good stop for a long drive - very friendly and helpful staff

We stayed here for one night on July 26, 2018.

The park is tight with very narrow spaces but well maintained. We were only stopping for one night on the way home and having a level, nice pull-through site, with hookups was nice. We never even unhooked the trailer but was spot on level. The park is pretty packed with many long-term residents visible through more permanent porches, 100 gallon propane hook up, and lots of potted plants.  Since we were traveling and the park was so clean, it didn't bother me at all but others have made note of that.

There is both dumpsters onsite but also site pickup of garbage by the park. That’s a nice unexpected service. The pool and laundry closes at 8pm but the showers are open 24 hours. The greeter was very nice and helpful, couldn't ask for any more.

    RV Resort Four Seasons

    Lots of hookups

This site was right next to Fort Walla Walla, with a park and dog park. Not much else here but weird animal statues and long-term RVers. Lots of hookups for RV and trailers. No tent or car camping. The bathrooms were still closed June 2021, need to use your own hookups.

    Boardman Marina Park

    Beautiful spot on the Columbia

Campsites are large. And level. There’s lots of grass picnic tables fire pit. there’s a walking trail along the river and it’s close to town. There are clean restrooms with free showers and paid laundry facility. Seems to work pretty well.

Great place even though in town

Although you can hear the traffic going by still a nice park. This is the trade off with being close to town but being close to civilization allowed us to go get items we needed and not have to rely on the usually overpriced camp stores. Enjoyed the pool and event centers. ALOT of full timers which doesn't bother me - not sure if we bothered them. No firepits but we knew that before going - brought a propane fire pit with us. Wifi was being upgraded but cell service with Verizon wasn't an issue. Will go back.

    Pasco Tri-Cities KOA

    Good 2nt wtop

    KOA Pasco/Tri Cities

    Pasco, WA

    #221, New section

    Gravel, easily leveled,  pull Through

Grass area between sites with picnic table.

Plenty long enough, did not have to disconnect

WIFI.... there but not very strong

    V 4g/3b, ATT 4g/2b ( no booster)

2nt stop to visit a friend in Walla Walla, which was busy with their Fall Fair and had no RV spots open.

Escorted to our sight. Nick was very helpful with local info on where to find what.

There is some road noise. We didn't hear it in our rig with the AC on, but you will hear it if outside.

Nice pool area,  playground for the kids.

Laundry is a little small for a park this size,  but it wasn't busy and we didn't have to wait.

Did not use the new bathrooms.

Access from the highway was good, and new section roads are easily navigable in a larger rig.

They do water at night, so don't leave anything out that can't get wet.

We would stay here again when in the area.

    Fishhook Park

Remote CoE Campground on Lake Sacajawea

General: 41 RV sites with water and electric plus 11 tent sites in a grassy common area.

Site Quality: Reasonable separation between the sites. The back-in sites are wide enough to comfortably fit a TT, 5th wheel or RV and your toad or other vehicle side-by-side. The pull-through sites are very large. All sites have gravel camper pads and most appeared very level or had a level area. Our site, along with several others, had a nice view of Lake Sacajawea.

Bath/Shower house: Clean even if a little dated. Didn’t use the shower so cannot comment on that except that the hooks are located outside of the shower stalls so even though there is a swinging door to the shower area, privacy is compromised a bit by this design.

Activities: Unless you have a boat (there is a boat launch and dock), not too much to do here except relax. There is a small swimming area but no beach to speak of (grassy and pebbly area). There is a playground and horseshoe pits but no hiking trails that I could see.

To get to this campground, you drive past many miles of apple orchards and then suddenly, you see the lake and campground. There are quite a few trees for shade. Surprisingly good cell (Verizon) given the remoteness of the campground. Be aware there are train tracks nearby and you will hear an occasional loud train. It was very quiet on the Wednesday before Labor Day, but we were told it would be completely full on the weekend.

    Horn Rapids RV Resort

    Deluxe Park

OK, I need to be clear this is not really “camping” camping but more like glamping. This RV park is the best maintained park I have ever seen. The lots are not real big, but the landscaping is pristine ( think golf course) and overall the park is meticulously maintained. There is a really nice pool and hot tub, laundry room, showers, and a very nicely stocked store that includes hot food available. (Though we did not take advantage of that). Most of the sites here are taken up by permanent/long-term residents but there is no sense that they are junkie or like some parks like this end up looking, and there are plenty of short term/camper spots. We stayed here two nights visiting relatives who live here permanently.

Guide to Umatilla

RV campgrounds near Umatilla, Oregon provide access to Columbia River recreation and convenient stopovers for travelers. The area sits at approximately 400 feet elevation in the Columbia Basin, characterized by a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. Winter camping remains viable at most Umatilla area campgrounds, though summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, making riverside locations particularly desirable.

What to do

Boating access: At Umatilla Marina & RV Park, the marina features a large parking lot with spots to clean fish, making it convenient for anglers. "The marina has a large parking lot and spots to clean fish. There is a nice park and swimming area for kids," reports one visitor who gave the park a 4-star rating.

Swimming opportunities: During summer months, cooling off in designated swimming areas provides relief from the heat. "It's nice down by the water you can swim or fish. It also has a nice view of the sunset," notes a camper about the Umatilla Marina area, highlighting the recreational versatility of the waterfront location.

Wine tasting excursions: Wine Country RV Park in nearby Prosser serves as an excellent base for exploring local vineyards. "This could be a nice basecamp spot for people who love exploring wineries. The small town of Prosser has almost 30 wineries and tasting rooms in the immediate area and this park is in the midst of them all," explains a visitor who appreciated the convenient location.

What campers like

Shaded spaces: During hot summer days, tree cover provides essential relief. "There were shade trees and a nice lawn area, but the area with hookups was further from the traffic," observes one visitor about their stay at Umatilla Marina & RV Park.

Clean facilities: Horn Rapids RV Resort receives praise for its immaculate facilities. "We had a family emergency and stayed at this RV resort for almost two months. Crista was very accommodating and helpful to find us a monthly spot. The bathrooms are spotless. There's plenty of them too," shares a guest who stayed for an extended period.

Convenient overnight stops: Pilot RV Park offers convenient pull-through spaces for travelers needing a quick stopover. "They took our reservation from the road so we could drive right into our pull-through space. Since we were stopping for a weather delay, we just hooked up electric and used their restroom and shower. To say clean doesn't do them justice; the facilities were immaculate," reports a satisfied traveler.

What you should know

Highway noise levels: Traffic noise affects some campgrounds more than others. At Wildhorse Resort Casino RV Park, one camper noted, "Mostly quiet (except for semi trucks parking for the night on the road near park running their equipment all night)."

Weather considerations: The area experiences temperature extremes. "There were tent sites available for $20 so we checked in at the office to be assigned our spot... During the night, some people camping in their truck would start the engine every hour to keep warm plus the truck traffic over the I-82 bridge was noisy. This was in late October 2020 during a cold snap," recounts a camper who stayed at Umatilla Marina & RV Park during colder weather.

Irrigation schedules: Some parks water their grass during the day. At Horn Rapids RV Resort, a visitor warned, "The only complaint I have is that the sprinklers go on in the middle of the day. So if you are doing anything outside there is a good hour break to avoid the irrigation water."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming areas: Look for campgrounds with designated water access points. "The marina has a large parking lot and spots to clean fish. There is a nice park and swimming area for kids," notes a visitor about Umatilla Marina & RV Park.

Entertainment options: Some resorts offer additional activities. At Columbia Sun RV Resort, "Heated pool and hot tub, game room and more. Excellent bathroom facilities as well," according to one reviewer who found the amenities particularly suitable for family stays.

Movie nights: Check for special events at campgrounds. "The field next to the campground set up an outdoor movie night with free popcorn. The kids loved it and it was a great memory maker," shares a camper about their experience at the Umatilla Marina area.

Tips from RVers

Early reservation benefits: Making advance arrangements ensures better site selection. "Called last minute and was able to get a water and electric only site which is all we needed. The park is well maintained and it's all gravel. However the sites are all flat and easy to pull into," reports an RV owner about their experience at Umatilla Marina & RV Park.

Site levelness: Most RV parks in the region feature level sites for easier setup. "Level gravel sites with grassy area between sites," notes a camper about their experience at Umatilla Marina & RV Park.

Big rig accessibility: Many campgrounds accommodate larger vehicles with pull-through sites. "Pulled in right before 5:00PM on a Sunday and was able to check in before the help went home. I had made previous reservations so checkin was a snap. Have a 28' class C with a toad. The pull-through site was able to accommodate both vehicles without a problem," shares an RV camper about their stay.
