Camping facilities around Hermiston remain accessible year-round due to the region's relatively mild desert climate, though summer temperatures frequently climb above 90°F. "The park is well maintained and it's all gravel. However, the sites are all flat and easy to pull into," noted one visitor about Umatilla Marina & RV Park. Winter stays are possible at most developed campgrounds, but visitors should prepare for occasional freezing temperatures and potential wind along the Columbia River corridor. Most RV parks in the area require reservations during peak summer season, particularly for weekend stays. Cell coverage is generally reliable throughout the region, with the exception of some more remote areas along the river.

The Columbia River serves as the defining feature for most camping experiences near Hermiston. Campers at Umatilla Marina & RV Park highlight the waterfront location as a major attraction. A visitor mentioned, "Right on the River! Little bit of freeway noise, but otherwise very quiet and peaceful." Several campgrounds in the area feature boat launches and fishing access, making them popular with anglers and water sports enthusiasts. The proximity to Interstate 84 means some highway noise affects certain campgrounds, particularly those closest to bridges and major crossings. Plymouth Park Campground across the river in Washington receives positive reviews for its grassy areas and playground, though several visitors mention issues with yellow jackets and other insects during warmer months.

    Threemile Canyon Park

    Convenient Camping Off I-84

This spot was great for an overnight stay! Gravel lot and some small pull outs with plenty of space for multiple rigs. There was a vault toilet available for use, which was pretty clean. This is a pack it in, pack it out area, so be prepared to take your trash with you! No fires allowed! We pulled in around 9:00 PM and there were maybe 5 others there set up. It was pretty quiet, but there was some road noise, and you could hear the train when it went by, but we didn’t think it was bad at all. We also woke to gunshots in the distance early in the morning due to some others hunting, didn’t bother us at all though. Definitely a great spot if you want to do some fishing, as there is access to a boat ramp/dock and the lot is adjacent to the water… Overall we thought it was a pretty great spot for a free overnight stay and it comes with a nice view!

    Plymouth Park Campground

    Nice for a day

The sites are level and paved, easy for any size rig. But there is little to no shade, and the sites have no space between or privacy.

Lawns are irrigated and green so that is a nice touch. Host is sweet and seems to be on top of things

    Crow Butte Park

    clean and enjoyable

A big shout out to Wayne, the camp host. He was such a life saver. The in-line water filter in our fifth wheel blew apart so we were checking to find the nearest RV parts place, on a Saturday evening. Wayne had a spare! He let us borrow his spare water filter for the duration of our stay, which saved us a 2-hour round-trip drive to Prosser.  While the camp hosts are around, visible, and staying busy, they let the campers be campers to enjoy their time.

The water was super calm, so kayaking was very enjoyable. The grounds were clean and green.

    RV Resort Four Seasons

    Very comfortable

I called from 40 miles out on a Friday night on the 22 nd of August. High summer season. They were nearly full. They held a spot. Grass pad full hook up. Most of the sites are shaded by trees due to my starlink sat needs a clear shot at the sky I took a space in the sun. I was just traveling thru if I was staying longer go for shade. Its 85-90 this time of year. The people who run the place were very nice and the grounds are very well kept.

I recommend it anytime of year!

Guide to Hermiston

The Columbia River corridor near Hermiston spans elevations from 300 to 400 feet with a high desert climate. Summers reach 90-100°F with very low humidity, while winters bring occasional freezing temperatures. What campers like

Clean facilities: Plymouth Park Campground across the river in Washington maintains well-kept restrooms and grounds. "Clean area with grass and playground. Dumpster and restroom available. Sights are on paved roadway with firepits and picnic tables," reports Katherine K.

Level sites: Many campgrounds in the area feature flat, accessible camping spots. "The sites are level and paved, easy for any size rig. Lawns are irrigated and green so that is a nice touch," describes Jessie L. about Plymouth Park Campground.

River views: Umatilla Marina & RV Park provides waterfront camping with Columbia River vistas. "Just a half mile from I-84, you'll get a little truck noise but was worth the $34 for an overnight stay," says Ray V., who appreciated the convenient location and riverside setting.

What you should know

Highway noise: Most campgrounds in the Hermiston area experience some traffic noise. "If you need an easy place to pull in for the night, this works. If you think you're camping on the Columbia River, you're not. It's close, but you can't get there from here—walking anyways," notes C S. about Plymouth Park.

Seasonal insect concerns: Yellow jackets can become problematic during summer months. "When you arrive a sweet lady warns you about the snakes. But what she failed to warn us about is the swarming yellow jackets," reports Courtney Z., who experienced insect issues during her stay.

Limited privacy: Many sites offer convenience but minimal seclusion. "It's a cute spot if you don't mind sharing right spaces and zero privacy. The spots are basically pull outs off the camp roadway," explains Nicole L. about the setup at Plymouth Park Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Hood Park offers dedicated play areas for children. "This campground offers developed sites with hookups for campers. There is a playground and interpretive events for kids in the evenings. They even had some movies on the weekends," shares Chris A.

Movie nights: Some campgrounds host outdoor films during summer months. "The field next to the campground set up a outdoor movie night with free popcorn. The kids loved it and it was a great memory maker," reports Agnes B. about her experience at Umatilla Marina RV Park.

Swimming safety: When camping with children, check water conditions before swimming. "We were here on a hot day, lots of families with kids using the beach and swimming area," observes a reviewer at Sand Station Recreation Area, noting the popularity of the swimming beach during summer.

Tips from RVers

Dump station logistics: Consider the location of sanitary facilities when selecting a site. "In site 45, I think the dump ended up being almost uphill from my trailer, so it was an interesting challenge to get my tanks emptied," advises Jay K. about his experience at Boardman Marina Park.

Seasonal hookup changes: Winter campers should confirm available services. "Be advised that if you go in the off-season the spots are first come first served. We were disappointed to find there was no water hookup as they had already winterized," warns Lisa about Boardman Marina Park.

Payment options: Pioneer RV Park in Hermiston offers different payment arrangements. "Pay in cash and get a good deal. Nice RV park with amenities close by," suggests Bradee A., highlighting potential savings for budget-conscious travelers.
