Silver Falls State Park Campground offers cabin camping options 8 miles from Scotts Mills with electricity and heating for year-round comfort. The cabins accommodate families with two bedrooms, providing a convenient alternative to tent camping during Oregon's rainy seasons. Campers at Silver Falls can access the famous Trail of Ten Falls directly from the campground, with additional glamping facilities at nearby Camp Dakota.
What to do
Hike behind waterfalls: At Silver Falls State Park Campground, visitors can explore the 7.2-mile Trail of Ten Falls loop. "The hike is amazing and beautiful though most of the trails are closed to dogs," notes Krystle K. Some waterfall trails involve challenging terrain: "BEWARE: It's WET, so bring your wet weather gear, and good, sturdy hiking shoes for slippery terrain," advises Melissa L.
Try disc golf: Milo McIver State Park Campground features two competition-quality disc golf courses. "Home of the annual Beaver State Fling, a PDGA sanctioned National Tour event, Milo McIver is an excellent host for the international players that come to the Pacific Northwest," explains Steve C. The park also offers river access with two boat launches for fishing and water activities.
Adventure activities: Camp Dakota provides numerous structured activities beyond the standard glamping experience. "We enjoyed disc golf, archery, axe throwing, a fun general store and an escape room," shares Bjorn S. The camp also features treetop canopy obstacles and ziplines that make it worth the price: "We came in thinking it was a little on the spendy side, to ending up thinking it was a bargain."
What campers like
Creek access: Metzler Park offers sites along Clear Creek where campers can enjoy natural water features. "Metzler Park offered beautiful, shaded campsites along Clear Creek. My site was just above the creek and I fell asleep to its calming sound," writes Maureen H. The park includes a swimming hole and suspension bridge that adds recreational options beyond hiking.
Heated yurts: Glamping close to Scotts Mills, Oregon includes comfortable yurt options at Champoeg State Heritage Area Campground. "The yurts are heated, and a couple of them are pet friendly, which is great for us! There is a small table in each yurt," explains Lana N., who adds that the sleeping arrangements include "a couch and a bunk bed for sleeping arrangements, with the lower bunk larger than the top bunk."
Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the layout and privacy at various campgrounds. "The campground is well laid out and there are plenty of hiking and biking trails right from your campsite," reports Thamar D. about Champoeg State Park. At Metzler Park, Jill R. notes, "This county park has it all. Big sites for RV's or tents, beautiful creek, swimming hole, suspension bridge and lots of options for kids."
What you should know
Seasonal operations: Some campgrounds have limited seasonal availability. Milo McIver State Park operates from March 15 to October 31, while Promontory Park is only open from Memorial Day to September 30. Water activities are also seasonal - the kids' fishing pond at Promontory Park is stocked only from October to April since "the fish can't survive once the water temperature rises too high."
