Great Quiet Camp

Gone Creek is a nice quiet camp closed to the public and for camper use only. The fact there is no Day Use reduces the people along the water front. Put toilets and water available, I was super impressed with how clean the camp hosts kept the restrooms and how clean they smelled. Activities include swimming, fishing, crawdadding, and hiking. We got dropped off at Little Crater Lake and hiked the 6 miles back to Gone Creek. Once fire season starts, there are no campfires but propane fires are permitted so long at they can be turned off and flames stop immediately.

Campin

Awesome campground on the lake with a biking/hiking trail around the lake and a small boat launch. The bathrooms were very clean and surprisingly smelled great!

Perfect Respite for a Hot Day

Came up here mid week with a reservation for one night. Was lucky that there was a cancelation and got 2 nights.

The first night in site 38. Great site. Lots of shade. Lots of room. Pretty private. No real view of the lake.

Second night in site 41, which was roomy, but the drive was kind of steep. Would be good for a tent. No vehicle longer than mine (20 feet) would really be able to be flat. I had to use my levelers. No privacy and no shade.

But who cares about that? The attraction here is the lake and the lake is amazing. Warm enough for swimming. Despite the full campgrounds all around, it was easy to find a private spot to lounge by the lake for hours.

Smoke from wildfires made it a bit hazy during my visit, but I think there's normally an amazing view of Mt Hood from the lake. Definitely want to come back here again!

Great Timothy Lake Campground

Great campground. Vault toilets, water available and beautiful short hike to the shoreline for all the Lake activities! Only downside is all of the moondust.

Clean, Pristine and Family Friendly

Mom and teen daughter found this to be a great spot to camp together.  PGE  now oversees the campground and they've upgraded the paths, brought in gravel for parking spots (you can see in one of the pics), and maintain the bathroom meticulously.  Tenting in sites in the 20's are winning spots for sure!  Bring your kayak or paddle board.  We loved this place!  Several sites had been combined with others to make bigger spots.  This happened as a result of PGE taking over the management we heard.

Spacious, clean and beautiful!

This is a wonderful spot for camping. The sites are well laid out so that you're not in your neighbor's business, and have plenty of room to make yourself at home in each site. The campground doesn't offer day use, so the small, well laid out boat launch and lake access areas aren't super crowded. The hosts are friendly and everything was VERY clean. Highly recommend.

Loved it!!

I had never been to Timothy Lake before, it was so Gorgeous and so much bigger than I thought it would be. I campground was in a great location and I got a good spot, even thou it wasn’t by the water. Bathroom was Super clean and so were all the sites. I’d definitely come back! The weather was chilly and rainy so it wasn’t busy. (Oh and don’t waste your time going to lil Crater Lake.) PGE runs this campground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Gone Creek Campground located on Timothy Lake?

Gone Creek Campground is situated directly on Timothy Lake, offering exclusive access to the waterfront for registered campers only (no day use allowed). The campground features a small boat launch and dedicated lake access areas that remain relatively uncrowded. A hiking and biking trail circumnavigates the lake, connecting from the campground. The location provides beautiful views of the lake, which is larger than many first-time visitors expect. The setting is peaceful due to the campground's policy of restricting access to registered campers, making it an ideal base for enjoying Timothy Lake's recreational opportunities.

What does Gone Creek Campground look like and what are the site conditions?

Gone Creek Campground offers scenic camping with sites nestled among trees providing good shade coverage. The parking spots are graveled, and campsites are spacious with room to spread out. Site conditions vary slightly—some sites like #38 offer lots of shade and privacy, while others like #41 are roomy but with different driveway configurations. One minor drawback is the presence of "moondust" (fine dust) at some sites. The campground features clean facilities, including well-maintained vault toilets and water access points. Sites in the 20s are particularly recommended for tent camping. Overall, the natural setting provides beautiful views, though not all sites have direct lake visibility.

What do visitors say about their experience at Gone Creek Campground?

Campers consistently praise Gone Creek Campground for its cleanliness, friendly camp hosts, and well-maintained facilities. The vault toilets receive special mention for being exceptionally clean and odor-free. Visitors appreciate the privacy between sites and the ample space provided at each location. The lakeside setting earns high marks for its beauty, with many noting Timothy Lake is larger and more gorgeous than expected. Families find it a great spot for camping together, and the lack of day-use access is highlighted as a positive feature that keeps the lake access areas less crowded than other campgrounds.

What is the layout of Gone Creek Campground and how do I find my way around?

Gone Creek Campground features well-organized camping sites arranged to provide privacy between neighbors. The sites are numbered, with sites in the 20s being particularly good for tenting. The campground has defined paths that have been upgraded with gravel for easier navigation. There's a small boat launch area and lake access points that aren't crowded since the campground doesn't offer day use. Water sources are available throughout, and clean vault toilets are strategically placed for camper convenience. The layout ensures you have enough space at each site to comfortably set up camp without feeling crowded by neighboring campers.
