Phoenix, Oregon provides multiple camping options within easy reach of I-5, with several established campgrounds situated in the surrounding Rogue Valley region. Holiday RV Park, located directly in Phoenix, offers 100 RV sites with full hookups and amenities like a swimming pool and picnic tables along a scenic creek. Most campgrounds in the Phoenix area remain open year-round, benefiting from the relatively mild climate of southern Oregon's valley floor. Several sites require reservations, particularly during summer months when outdoor activities peak. Holiday RV Park features pull-through sites that accommodate large vehicles, making it convenient for travelers along the I-5 corridor. Jackson Wellsprings, located just north of Ashland, combines camping options with access to mineral hot springs and offers a unique camping experience with tent areas in open meadows and some vehicle camping. A camper noted, "The hot springs are a fun and relaxing place and the prices for campground are very reasonable."

Many developed campgrounds near Phoenix provide amenities that enhance the camping experience, including electric hookups, showers, and drinking water. The natural setting along Bear Creek creates a peaceful environment despite proximity to highways. Several visitors mentioned water features as highlights of their stays. "There's a creek running along side the park and a nice grassy area for pets. The sites are pull thru, making it easy," wrote one Holiday RV Park visitor. For those seeking more nature-focused experiences, Mount Ashland Campground offers free primitive camping at higher elevations. Proximity to Ashland's cultural attractions, including the Shakespeare Festival, makes this area particularly appealing for campers looking to combine outdoor experiences with cultural activities.

Jackson Campground On The Applegate River

    Bad vibes

Tried to stay here this weekend, but the host was super creepy and demanded cash (we were going to drop a check in the payment envelope as one does at literally every other campground). We decided to leave. Turns out the Applegate National Forest sites are all closed right now - not sure if that will change or if it's a government thing. Ended up getting a site on HipCamp.

    Rogue Elk County Park

    Nice park road noise

Nice campsites. No water at sites or showers due to water shortage. Only one other camper while we were there. We stayed in camper and had earplugs so noise didn't bother us too much. Would highly recommend earplugs if you stay. Pretty spot on the Rogue to fishm

BLM - Free Dirt Camp on Buck Divide Rd

    Beautiful, quiet

This is a flat-ish area, right on the lake. The road is very close, depending on where you set up, but is very low traffic. Very quiet at night.

Not paved. Can be muddy. A little bumpy. Made it just fine in my 03 astro and a 20 ft trailer.

There are not marked sites. I was the only one here that I saw. Found some shotgun shells, probably from duck/goose/ season (idk man I'm not a hunter.)

    Wolf Creek Park

    Early spring 26

Very quite with occasional wildlife passing through. Such as deer and wild turkey. Lots of old growth forest that feels mystical and magical. The camp hosts are friendly and informative. Bathrooms are clean. Creek with the swimming hole looks so inviting for hot summer days. Just stopped in for future references but plan to return!

    Beaver Creek Campground

    Secluded & Free

Nice campground in remote location 4 miles north of Hwy 96. Limited amenities: campground has one vault toilet, with a picnic table, and fire ring at most of the campsites. No fee to camp here.

My campsite was located at the far end of the campground, quite a ways from the others and offered a lot of privacy, right along the creek. It was a beautiful setting for a relaxing visit.

There is a small RV park with a general store less than a mile to the west of where Beaver Creek Road intersects with Hwy 96. They have a great deli with made to order sandwiches, and fresh baked goods.

Canyon Gulch by Eight Dollar Moutain

    Quiet even with some traffic

Drove around a bit, found a nice flat site, there are several. Road is rough in a couple spots however I did fine in minivan for what I needed to camp. No amenities. There are rabbits hopping around. Established firepits. Evidence of recent clearing of encampment, most debris is gone. Always pack out more than you've packed in. Every piece picked up helps 🙏 Safe travels EDIT: I've had great TMobile signal most of time here (4+ nights)

    Sunny Valley Campground

    Ms Hana

This is such a unique campground with RV sites with full or partial hookups, tent spots and many renovation’d cabins all spread out so no one is on top of each other. There are even 2 rustic wagons available during season.

All the different styles of camping come with picnic table and fire pit with wood available to purchase or wander around and the many trees offer up kindling and branches to keep the fire lit during my stay. One of the most serene and peaceful camping experiences I’ve enjoy’d this year. The staff is helpful and the renovations are in full swing during these off season months. There’s an off leash doggie zone that we’ll maintain’d with parent benches made from logs for the adults to rest on whilest their puppys run n play amongst the trees

I highly recommend Sunny Valley Campground located right off I-5 with highway rumbling being the only downside all the other amenities certain overide this single flaw.

Guide to Phoenix

Near Phoenix, Oregon, campsite options extend beyond just RV facilities to include unique camping environments at different elevations. The region enjoys relatively mild year-round temperatures with summer averages in the 80s F and winter lows rarely dipping below freezing. Southern Oregon's camping areas offer proximity to both mountain and valley experiences within a 20-minute drive radius.

What to do

Fishing at Emigrant Lake: The recreation area features a fishing spot with options for both shoreline and boat fishing. "There is a nice sized, fenced dog area as well. Full hookups at a good price," notes a visitor to Southern Oregon RV Park.

Hiking near Mount Ashland: The Pacific Crest Trail runs near the campground at higher elevations. "The PCT runs near here so it is a place for thru hikers to stay," explains a camper at Mount Ashland Campground.

Day trips to cultural centers: Ashland's theaters and festivals are accessible from most area campsites. "We stayed for 4 days while attending some Shakespeare plays in Ashland. Be aware the wind picks up in the afternoon but tends to die down after sundown," reports a visitor at Emigrant Lake Point Park.

What campers like

Mineral pools and soaking: Natural hot springs offer healing waters at certain locations. "An amazing peaceful place to be just outside of Ashland. On site showers and bathrooms. Developed hot pool for day use, with a discount of you are staying there overnight," shares a guest at Jackson Wellsprings.

Affordable camping with amenities: Many sites offer good value compared to urban accommodations. "The hot springs are a fun and relaxing place and the prices for campground are very reasonable. I liked how the campgrounds weren't in the middle of town and the surrounding area is quite pretty," comments another Jackson Wellsprings visitor.

River and creek access: Multiple sites feature waterfront placement with easy water access. "There's a creek running alongside the park and a nice grassy area for pets. The sites are pull thru, making it easy. Right off of I-5 so easy to find," notes a camper at Holiday RV Park.

What you should know

Varying water levels: Emigrant Lake's water level fluctuates seasonally affecting swimming and boat launches. "The lake was ALWAYS PACKED growing up between 1999-2010 and then the lake dried up almost completely. As of July 2022 it's about 50% full, which you are able to dock a boat and enjoy the lake at that point," shares a visitor to Emigrant Lake Recreation Area.

Freeway noise considerations: Some campgrounds have traffic noise due to proximity to I-5. "Recommend a spot away from the freeway, but the noise did not bother us too much. Hiking path behind the park that connects several towns."

Limited summer availability: Popular sites fill quickly during peak months. "We visited during the week in August and got the very last campsite available."

Tips for camping with families

Water play options: Several campgrounds offer water recreation beyond swimming. "A huge playground for the kids too! Beautiful place for a day trip for a picnic and to swim, lots of good places to BBQ all around the lake!"

Kid-friendly amenities: Playground equipment and recreation areas are available. "There are showers and on-site laundry. This place sometimes can be busy, so don't expect to have the place to yourself."

Nature learning opportunities: Wildlife viewing provides educational experiences. "Had deer running around while I was setting up the tent. Pit toilets, hiking close by, accessible in any vehicle," reports a visitor at Mount Ashland Campground.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Full-service sites often require advance booking. "Stayed for 1 night en route south on I-5. Easy to book. Nice little camp store. Clean showers and bath. Didn't use other amenities," notes a visitor to Medford-Gold Hill KOA.

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain. "The whole campground is on a hill so the higher sites just look down on the lower sites. Most sites are visible from any other site. The sites were not very level and they were narrow."

Pull-through site limitations: Length restrictions may apply at certain locations. "Pull thru sites are short my 35 footer and car just fit. Multiple sites cars were sticking into the road making it a little close pulling out in the morning."
