What to do
Water sports at Skiatook Lake: Twin Points campground offers direct lake access for boating, fishing, and swimming. "Lots of families camp in this campground. Many people had boats, kayaks, as well as remotely operated toy boats and such. One guy was parasailing in some kind of a rig that had a gas motor," shares Christine N. of COE Lake Skiatook Twin Points.
Fishing opportunities: The area's lakes support multiple fish species including bass, crappie, and catfish. "The views in the area are beautiful, especially from the cliffs. There are multiple areas to hike, kayak, fish, or boat in the area. Not too far from Skiatook if you need to head into a town," notes Vance D. from Tall Chief Cove.
ATV riding: Some campgrounds provide ATV access to designated riding areas. "Weekend it gets full of atv riders due to the huge atv island that sits off the shoreline of the bay," explains Jason about Appalachia Bay. "A great place for people that have atvs," adds Lana T.
Wildlife viewing: Many campsites offer opportunities to spot local wildlife including deer, birds, and occasional bald eagles. "We actually saw a pair of bald eagles and noodlers while out kayaking!" reports Jacquelyn L. about her experience at Heyburn Park.
What campers like
Waterfront sites: Many campgrounds offer direct waterfront access with views. "We love to camp at Tall Chief Cove - Skiatook. We have camped here several times with friends and share the same site, with spots for two campers; right on the lake," writes Liz R.
Spacious campsites: Multiple campgrounds feature well-designed site layouts. "RV spots seem extra big!!" notes Myriah J. about Tall Chief Cove. Similarly, at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, Stanleigh S. mentions, "Spots are relatively spacious and a good amount of shade for most spots."
Clean facilities: Campgrounds with well-maintained bathrooms and showers receive positive feedback. "The bathhouse was updated and clean with individual shower stall in each of the 4 areas," notes Craig E. about Twin Points. "The bathrooms are in excellent shape and a newer build and ALWAYS clean which is a major plus as they really take care of this place," shares Tom K.
Quiet atmosphere: Less developed campgrounds provide peaceful environments. "First time here, absolutely love it! The roads look like they've recently been blacktopped. Very easy to get to. Lots of shade, but there's sun if you want it. Beautiful lake view from my site," Karen T. writes about Bull Creek Peninsula.
