    Mustang Run RV Park

    Great for an overnight stay

Mustang run isn’t to far from Oklahoma City off I-40 and is locally owned. Also close to State fair. It is at the end of a lane next to a hotel. You can hear lots of traffic from the interstate. It has 2 dog runs, storm shelters, pool, playground, laundry, and nice clubhouse. So everything you might need. There are pull through sites and back in. The sites are concrete so level. They are full hook ups with cable and wi-fi. There are no tent sites here. The nightly rate is $49 but they do except Good Sam discount. They also have weekly and monthly rates.

Turkey Pass — Lake Thunderbird State Park

    Great spot

50 amp, water, sewer dump station on the way out, concrete pad, picnic table under the shade tree, fire pit, 5g T-Mobile cell service. Trees need to be trimed from the campground, you will get your rig scratched. We have a 40 foot fifthwheel and was able to find several sites that would work fot sat dish. Sites are not on top of each other. Lots of places for walks and the boat launch is just down the hill. We will stay here again, just hope they trim the trees.

    Lake Carl Blackwell

    Relaxing time

We reserve two sites side by side in the beaver cove campground. The sites are on a slight decline but pull through and we were able to make them level with our blocks. The sides have enough room for the grandkids to roam around it besides for electric and water only but offered a view of the lake and we're close by a swim area. The trees at the sides provided adequate shade for the afternoon sun and the campground offered boat ramps couple of swim areas and on-site store for gas and supplies including and after hours vending machine with propane tanks and charcoal and s'mores supplies. The dump station provided slots for three RVs at one time and well thought out. The crap ground offers hiking bicycle and horse trails that cover a large area. Wildlife was abundant with plenty of deer and Canadian geese and squirrels. The campgrounds offer some annual sites for long-term visits but there is a waiting list to be on that.

    Tallgrass RV Park, Guthrie, Oklahoma

For RVs - Clean, Friendly, Easy Access

I made this reservation with Travis over the phone and he was there to check us in at the entrance office when we arrived. So the park offers great service. It is easy to find with easy access of of I35. GPS navigation is accurate, but at the time of this review google provides only satellite and street images of an empty field. They did offer military discount on their rates. The pull through concrete pads are level and offer full utilities at all sites, which are new and well located. The roads are gravel, but are being maintained. There are several extended/long term RVs, but everyone appears to be keeping things well maintained and the park is very quiet. If you are outside, there is a bit of road noise, but it is minimal. The laundry room is very nice and prices are good. The club house is very nice and there is a TV, pool table and shuffleboard. The bathroom/shower areas are new and nicely kept. Verizon signal bounced from good LTE to 5G with consistent signal and we just used the hotspot, so I have no comment on park wifi. We were here for only one night and did not unhook, but we will definitely stop here again when it fits into our travels.

    Twin Fountains RV Park

Great Base to Explore Oklahoma City

Twin Fountains is right off where I-35 and I-44 meet in Oklahoma City so it's fairly easy to get to this campground (CG). We were immediately met by staff, handed our info package and escorted to pull through site P-1 with FHUs. Actually, this site is right in front of the main building and on the twin fountains pond. There are utilities on both sides of this site so you can pull in either direction. We went across the street and turned around in the health department parking lot so we could have our door on the pond side. If you arrive during main business hours and there are a lot of cars in the parking lot across the street, larger rigs will do a couple of small curb jumps. The tiny patio with the picnic table on P-1 is right outside your door with the fire pit right beside it and you are sharing your yard with pond visitors. There is no cable TV here but lots of OTA channels. There are a lot of trees in the central CG area so satellite might be iffy. Their WiFi was spotty and poor during our 5 nights stay. There is a lot of road noise no matter where you stay in the CG, and this park packs them in with both full timers and transits. Upside is the park is clean, there’s laundry, pool, putt putt golf, and little restaurant/bar. Due to the CG’s location this is an excellent place to stay to explore OKC. There are two fenced dog runs, one is tiny and the main one is longer, but very narrow. However, across the street from the entrance/exit, there are several sidewalk style walking trails. We routinely visit OKC to visit family and thought we’d give this park a try. Overall, this is a nice park, but it just isn't our style. We prefer state/county parks and so, we'll opt for another location next time we're in town.

Little Axe — Lake Thunderbird State Park

    Great State Park in Oklahoma

We had a great stay in Lake Thunderbird State Park near Norman Oklahoma. The park has 11 campground areas situated around the 6000 acre centerpiece lake with many tent, RV sites and some of those have full hook up; our choice was the Little Ax campground on the southern end just off Oklahoma 9. In addition to water activities the park offers hunting, horse rental and boarding, equestrian trails, hiking, mountain biking, nature trails, a nature center, and an archery range. Our lakefront site#37 was nice and shaded with a gentle lake breeze offering a concrete pad, water, 30/15 amp electric, concrete table, lantern holder, fire ring and grill at site. The campground has an entry station, camp host, picnic shelters, playground, bathhouse and laundry, beach area, common fire pit, Verizon 4 bars, dump station, trash receptacles, interior roads are paved, with many sites waterfront. RV sites are close quarters. Tent sites are amazing...pads, concrete table, fire ring, grill, water spigot dispersed, waterfront sites. The town of Norman has all the amenities: shopping, dining, groceries, fuel and yes, Walmart. The area is home to local wineries and breweries and also the hometown to actor James Garner. WARNING: Oklahoma State Parks charge a daily parking fee per vehicle of$10 in addition to the camping fee and they enforce it...just saying from experience...read the information carefully! 13101 Alameda Dr, Norman, OK 73026 GPS- 35.234940,-97.219224 for the Little Ax Campground.

    Oklahoma City East KOA

    Busy campground with excellent management

Beautiful campground with plenty of amenities at a great price. The spaces were a good size to fit our 45’ toyhauler with 2 vehicles (and put the back patio down). There are a fair bit of trees, so big rigs use caution pulling into spaces.

Nice playground for the kids, pool was closed (opens Memorial Day to Labor Day), dog park is large and very well shaded. Laundry room is very clean and well kept.

Approximately 20-30 minutes from OKC zoo & science museum.

Overall wonderful stay with no complaints.

Guide to Meeker

Lake Thunderbird State Park near Meeker, Oklahoma sits at 1,100 feet elevation and features red sandstone terrain common to central Oklahoma. Seasonal rainfall patterns create muddy conditions during spring months, while summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F. The region's campgrounds typically experience high winds due to the open terrain.

What to do

Swimming opportunities: Lake Thunderbird offers swimming options within walking distance of camping areas. "When I camped there was clean. We stayed a week in a tent fishing camping swimming had a great time," reports Seama W. from Rose Rock campground, giving the experience five stars.

Mini golf and recreation: Twin Fountains RV Park provides on-site entertainment including mini golf, though some visitors note it needs maintenance. "We all enjoyed fishing the pond and having a fire each night!" shares Meghan P., highlighting additional recreation options beyond golf.

What campers like

Storm shelters: Safety features at RV parks near Meeker include dedicated storm shelters. Roadrunner RV Park offers "lots of grass, concrete pads, and storm shelters," according to Steve H., who cautions about the dangerous turn into the park from the interstate.

Extra amenities: Some parks offer unusual perks. At Rockwell RV Park, guests receive "free coffee and muffins every morning. My youngest did not miss a day," reports Bret N., who appreciated the indoor pool and buffalo enclosure during a Thanksgiving week stay.

Concrete pads and landscaping: Level sites with proper concrete pads make setup easier. "All concrete and level. Lots of grass for the pups," notes Bill B. about Roadrunner RV Park, though mentioning sites are somewhat close for extended stays.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer heat impacts camping comfort throughout the region. "Nice in the fall but summers can be hot," warns Travis M. about Lake Thunderbird, suggesting seasonal planning for your visit.

Ground conditions: The red soil in Oklahoma creates housekeeping challenges. "The only downside is the red dirt that is easy to track into your camper. Its Oklahoma," explains Erich H. from Oak Glen RV & Mobile Home Park.

Site spacing variations: Site density differs between campgrounds. Turkey Pass at Lake Thunderbird offers "spacious camp sites most are pull through," according to Rod A., while other parks place sites closer together.

Wildlife viewing: Rockwell RV Park maintains a buffalo enclosure that appeals to children. "The kids loved the 7 baby Buffalo on the property," reports Lauren W., who found the park "nice, quiet, and clean" during their stay.

Tips from RVers

Satellite dish positioning: For RVers requiring satellite connectivity, site selection matters. "We have a 40 foot fifthwheel and was able to find several sites that would work for sat dish," advises Rick V. about Turkey Pass, though he warns about tree scratching issues.

Cell service coverage: Mobile connectivity varies throughout the area. Turkey Pass reports "3 bars of 5G for Verison and T-Mobile" according to Rick, while Love's RV Stop-Choctaw OK 486 offers "easy in and out, with plenty of space and nearby amenities" according to J K.

Overnight convenience: For travelers passing through, Oak Glen RV Park serves practical needs. "Not far from Walmart so it was a good place to restock the fridge!" mentions Seth, who found it "perfect little spot for a nice cheap overnight stay."

Utility hookup positions: Some campgrounds have unusual utility placements. At Roadrunner RV Park, "some sites have sewer hookups toward the far rear with a slight incline, so it may take an extension or 2 pending your rig and some imagination," advises Daniel L.
