    River Trail Crossing

    Nice little campground

River Trail Crossing is privately owned, small campground (which we like) but nice and quiet. Sites include tents, small rigs and large pull through sites for big rigs. Sites located on the river are water and electric. Sites off the river have 50 amp and 30 amp. State route 95 runs to the right of the campsite so if you reserve any sites on the river (right side) you will have some traffic noise from the bridge. We reserved spot 32, farthest site to the right on the river. We loved it. The river was only about knee to hip deep. Most family’s floated with tubes and saw some kayaks. Not much for fishing at this particular section of the river. There is a paved bike/walking trail behind the campground - B&O trail. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. They do have 2 dumpsites available. We really enjoyed this campground, owners were very friendly and offer firewood and propane if needed. Mohican state park is only 10-15 minutes away which is really nice for hiking and fishing as well. We will be back!

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Delaware State Park Campground

    Nice Ohio State Park

This state park spans over 2,000 acres and is just north of the cute Ohio town of Delaware. We stayed here for two nights while visiting friends in the area but wished we would have stayed to enjoy all that the park had to offer. The campground was really nice and quiet when we stayed there which was during the week and in the spring and not very crowded. We can imagine that this park is pretty full in the summer with all their amenities and close proximity to major Ohio cities.

The 'pod' layout of the campground made for large campsites (some sites are over 90 feet in length and well suited for large RV’s) with good separation between sites. There are 212 sites that have 50 amp electric. The campground also has yurts for rent (May through October) that are furnished with beds, table and chairs, a cooler, ceiling fan, outdoor charcoal grill and a picnic table with canopy. This is a great option for those wanting to stay in something more than a tent but don’t have an RV.

There is no sewer or water at individual sites but there is a dump station and water fill station near the park entrance. Roads and campsites are paved with grassy patios that feature picnic tables and fire pits. The park does not provide wifi but our Verizon hotspot and 4G phone worked well. There are centrally located bath/shower houses with coin-operated laundry facilities.

The park is open year-round and great for outdoor activities; especially, those that are water-related. There are numerous boat launches, fully equipped marina, and swimming area. We launched our kayaks and had a great time paddling around the lake.  Be aware that there is no horsepower limits for boats on the lake and weekends are very popular for anglers in high-powered bass boats. The northern portion of the lake is a “no wake zone” which makes for a more pleasant paddling environment.  If you don’t have a boat, boat rentals are available at the marina.

For those wanting to hike there are plenty of hiking/biking trails for you to get out and explore the park.  Many of the trails link together so you can decide how long you want to hike. The Lakeview Trail was perfect for us as our dog loved jumping in the water during our hike. Other amenities in the park include a nature center, 18-hole disk golf, hunting, archery, volleyball, horse shoe pits, picnic areas, and an 800-foot designated swimming area.  At the camp store/office you can rent bikes as well as other sporting equipment.

If you decide to venture out of the park you are only about 40 miles from downtown Columbus and less than 20 miles to the world-renowned Columbus Zoo (which is definitely worth a visit). The nearby town of Delaware is really nice with downtown shopping, restaurants, a historic theater and brewery (Stass Brewing Company has great Belgian-style beer with a fun atmosphere).

Would definitely camp here again if we were in the area.

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Winter Time But No Snow

We stayed on a full hook up site (turned off for the season) that had a nice concrete level pad. There was also a nice side pad that kept our chairs clean. A little further back in the campground to be close to the shower house that was open. Then found out that comfort station next to us was open - nice! Also close the water which was full and rushing all weekend.

The camp store was open on the weekend and the staff was nice to chat with. They had wood, but it was slab cut which doesn’t burn very well. We decided against it. Lots of snacks and other items still available.

Some sites were really close to the water, almost too close as the water flooded a few spots. The campground is nice to walk if you like to get in a little workout. They also have small camper cabins and them much bigger cabins which a few are pet friendly.

We went on a hike by the covered bridge to one of the waterfalls. Lots of trials to choose from.

Guide to Waynesburg

Campgrounds near Waynesburg, Ohio offer a range of experiences from quiet lakeside tent camping to full-service RV accommodations. The region features several small lakes and waterways where seasonal camping runs primarily from May through mid-October. Water depth at swimming areas typically ranges from 3-4 feet, making them suitable for families with children of various ages.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Arrowhead Lake RV Park & Campground, campers can access two distinct ponds. "They have two ponds, one for fishing and one for swimming. The swimming one has a dock kids jump off but it only goes to about 3.5-4 feet deep at the deepest point," notes one visitor.

Kayaking on local waters: The lakes and rivers provide calm waters for paddling. At Kokosing River Campground, "Kayaking on the lake is great. Camp staff very friendly and helpful," according to a Labor Day weekend camper.

Bike trail access: Some campgrounds connect directly to paved recreational trails. At River Trail Crossing, "Bike trail access right from the campground. Golf nearby, Amish shops, canoeing. Great area to visit," reports one reviewer who stayed at a riverfront site.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain well-kept restrooms and shower areas. At Cedarlane RV Resort, "The pools and bathrooms were clean. The water pressure in the shower house was lacking but I've realized that seems to be at every campground we've stayed at," notes a summer visitor.

Riverside sites: Waterfront camping spots remain popular despite occasional challenges. "We reserved spot 32, farthest site to the right on the river. We loved it. The river was only about knee to hip deep. Most family's floated with tubes and saw some kayaks," reports a visitor to River Trail Crossing.

Quiet atmosphere: Smaller, less crowded campgrounds appeal to those seeking peaceful settings. A Kokosing River visitor described it as a "Nice, small, shaded, well maintained campground. Wasn't crowded when we visited in Sep. but I can imagine when it's full it's a little crowded. Beautiful lake, nice a quiet. Lots of waterfowl."

What you should know

Seasonal variations: Most campgrounds around Waynesburg operate on limited schedules. "We stayed till weds and the rest of the time was very nice. The pools and bathrooms were clean," notes a summer visitor to Cedarlane, highlighting how weekday stays often mean fewer crowds.

Site layout challenges: Some rv parks in Waynesburg and surrounding areas have tight spacing between camping spots. At Sandusky Milan RV Park, "Sites are good size in length, but pretty close to your neighbor. Enough space to sit, but not much room."

Recent improvements: Several campgrounds have undergone renovations. Sandusky Milan RV Park has "been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking!"

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Cedarlane RV Resort offers multiple water features for children. "They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids. A gem mine. Horseshoes, basketball court and lots of kids activities," reports a summer visitor.

Weekend activities: Some campgrounds program family events during peak periods. At Fort Firelands RV Park, one visitor appreciated the "large grassy area right on the lagoon," though noted a "large flock of geese that stayed near the lagoon which meant goose poop around our site."

Weekday advantages: For quieter family camping near Waynesburg, Ohio, consider non-weekend stays. At Arrowhead Lake, a camper found "Sites are large for the weekend campers. The seasonal ones all have back in and the weekends are pull through which is kinda nice."

Tips from RVers

Electrical connections: When staying at RV parks around Waynesburg, bring adaptors for various power configurations. At Fort Firelands, "They have connectors you can use for a $25 deposit and then get your money back when you return the cord. They accept check and cash, no credit cards."

Site leveling: Prepare for potentially uneven grounds at some locations. Arrowhead Lake received positive comments for site preparation: "The sites are large for the weekend campers" and "it was only $45 a night," making it an economical choice among rv parks near Waynesburg.

Dump station logistics: Many campgrounds provide on-site waste disposal. At Camp Perry, "Sewer hook up is flush to the ground with a manhole cover over it. Won't drive over it & break it," demonstrating thoughtful design for RV needs.
