Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Wadsworth, OH

Maple Lakes Campground accepts pets without additional fees on its spacious grassy sites with good spacing between campsites. Most accommodations throughout the region permit leashed dogs at tent sites, RV spots, and in select cabin rentals. Silver Springs Campground, Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, and Willow Lake Park all maintain pet-friendly policies while offering varied amenities from drinking water to trash facilities. Pets must be kept at your own site at Maple Lakes, which some campers find unusually restrictive compared to other campgrounds. Most campgrounds maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes, vaccination records, and proper waste disposal, though specific rules vary by location.

Trails near Big Bend Trailhead primitive camping area provide excellent dog walking opportunities with convenient access to the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath. Heritage Farms offers tent camping with pet-friendly policies in a more primitive setting without hookups or showers, ideal for those seeking a more natural experience with their dogs. American Wilderness Campground features multiple accommodation types including pet-friendly glamping options alongside traditional tent and RV sites. The primitive camping areas along the Towpath Trail, including Franklin Trailhead, provide free first-come, first-served options for hikers and cyclists with pets, though they lack amenities like picnic tables or fire rings. Seasonal restrictions apply at most locations, with the majority operating from April through October. Water access at several campgrounds allows for dog swimming opportunities during warmer months.

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

Guide to Wadsworth

Wadsworth camping offers access to a mix of terrain across northeast Ohio's glaciated plateau region, with elevations ranging from 900-1,100 feet and approximately 39 inches of annual precipitation. Seasonal camping typically runs April through October, with many locations restricting reservations during the winter months due to weather conditions. Most campgrounds feature wooded sites with varying degrees of privacy between neighbors.

What to do

Fishing options: Multiple campgrounds maintain dedicated fishing areas. American Wilderness Campground provides a stocked fishing pond that consistently attracts anglers. As one visitor noted, "There was a big fishing pond with someone always fishing at it (that's a good thing)."

Water recreation: Swimming areas range from natural to developed. Pier-Lon Park offers both swimming and fishing in their lake. According to a camper, "A nice lake for swimming & catch/release fishing." Some locations maintain separate designated areas for each activity to prevent conflicts.

Trail exploration: Established paths available for hiking and biking. Findley State Park contains extensive trail networks accessible directly from campsites. One visitor described their experience: "There are quite a few trails and a lake with a beach for swimming. The park itself is kept clean and if you avoid the bathrooms in the busiest area then those are pretty clean as well."

Wildlife observation: Multiple camping areas support diverse animal populations. Heritage Farms provides opportunities to observe local wildlife from campsites. A camper mentioned, "Amazing views & abundant wild life" during their stay, making it ideal for nature enthusiasts.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds provide good separation between sites. Willow Lake Park offers well-sized camping areas. A reviewer stated, "Lots were pretty large and well maintained. But this is more of a local hangout with a ton of permanent spots."

Weekend entertainment: Several locations feature scheduled activities. Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provides organized events and amenities particularly appealing to families. A camper shared, "Great amenities for families. Pool. Playground. Dog park. Fishing ponds. Planned activities."

Dog-friendly policies: Accessible options for pet owners near Wadsworth. Silver Springs Campground welcomes pets and features exceptional canine facilities. One visitor enthused, "Fantastic dog park with a swimming beach for dogs only. Fun to watch them play even if you don't have a dog."

Clean facilities: Most locations maintain good hygiene standards. Stow Silver Springs Campground has received positive reviews for their maintenance. A camper noted, "Staff was very friendly as they made their rounds! We checked in late and they came around and gathered our info and told us about the place."

What you should know

Site selection matters: Terrain varies significantly within campgrounds. Findley State Park Campground has notable differences between sites. One reviewer advised, "I would recommend doing some research on campsites as they range from small to large for the same price. The original site I booked was a tent site too small for 2 tents."

Reservation timing: Popular weekends require advance planning. During peak season, securing spots becomes challenging. A camper at Findley State Park noted, "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Water quality concerns: Some locations have issues with water supplies. At Willow Lake Park, a visitor warned, "I'm not sure what's up with the water, but it smells like metal and you're probably better off bringing your own drinking water."

Bathroom facilities: Quality and proximity vary by location. Heritage Farms uses basic facilities that may require walking. As one camper explained, "Bathrooms are port-a-johns back near where the car was parked. So it can be a little bit of a hike if you have a far campsite."

Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Several dog-friendly campgrounds near Wadsworth feature swimming options. Clay's Resort Jellystone Park provides extensive water recreation. A visitor described, "The activities here are endless! Fishing, volleyball, basketball, kayaking, zip lining in water with swimming (15 break every 45 min), mini golf, bounce trampoline pad, cornhole, etc! So much for every age."

Playground availability: Check for age-appropriate equipment. American Wilderness includes play areas alongside their other amenities. One visitor noted the campground has "absolutely stunning beach views at sunset. Also the park has older shower and bathrooms however there always clean and well taken care of."

Noise levels: Some campgrounds maintain stricter quiet policies. Pier-Lon Park enforces family-friendly rules that contribute to a peaceful atmosphere. A camper described it as having a "great family atmosphere" with amenities including "a game room, general store, snacks, and even pot lucks on occasion."

Cabin options: Alternative accommodations for families without camping gear. Several locations offer cabin rentals with varying amenities. Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provides these options along with traditional sites, allowing flexibility for different family preferences and experience levels.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Electric access varies between campgrounds. Silver Springs Campground has limited higher-amp connections. As one RVer noted, "Only 3-30 amp hooks ups, the rest are 20 amp."

Site leveling challenges: Many locations feature uneven terrain. At Findley State Park, a camper warned, "Campsite were nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don't have a well compacted area for your tt/rv."

Dump station access: Not all locations offer full hookups. Willow Lake Park lacks sewer connections despite other amenities. A visitor clarified, "No full hookups as indicated on some search sites" and described issues with the dump station being "clogged and overflowing" during their visit.
