Wadsworth, Ohio camping areas cluster around the rolling hills and small waterways of northeast Ohio, where elevations range from 900 to 1,200 feet above sea level. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer highs averaging in the low 80s and winter temperatures frequently dropping below freezing. Many campgrounds in this area remain operational from May through October, with limited winter camping options.
What to do
Hiking trails access: Near West Branch State Park Campground, wooded paths connect directly to shoreline fishing spots. "There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd," notes reviewer Alisa G., who appreciates the park's natural amenities.
Fishing opportunities: Mogadore Reservoir offers multiple access points for anglers. At Countryside Campground, "There is a nice path through the woods down to the reservoir, where you can fish and kayak," according to Kathryn P., highlighting the easy water access.
Disc golf courses: Punderson State Park Campground features an on-site course as part of its recreational offerings. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," states Rebecca G. in her review of the park's diverse activities.
Winter activities: Evergreen Park RV Resort operates year-round for cold-weather camping enthusiasts. "We camped here the second weekend in December and had the park mostly to ourselves. The park is in Amish areas so there is plenty of shopping to do," writes Andrea F., describing winter recreation options.
What campers like
Spacious tent sites: Countryside Campground offers generous spaces for tent campers. "The 9 tent sites are very large and spacious. It is mostly an established RV Park," explains Tommy K., who visited with family and pets.
Clean facilities: American Wilderness Campground maintains well-kept bathhouses. "The bathrooms were clean as well as clean shower house was a plus," notes Luis G., who found the campground "nice and quiet."
Water recreation: West Branch State Park Campground features multiple water access points. "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site. Beach is right next door too! Great trails, clean facilities, no complaints," shares Rino S., describing his lakefront camping experience.
Fall seasonal events: Rivers Edge Camping Area provides a base camp for autumn activities. "When we arrived the porta potty was very big, clean and had hand sanitizer! In the morning there were many runners in the park but they stayed away from the camping area," writes Rebecca K. about her experience at this free campsite.
What you should know
Site selection considerations: Punderson State Park Campground requires careful site research. "The sites greatly vary on size and flatness so make sure you look at the pictures of the site before you book some are basically the parking pad and a fire ring, some are big and flat some are on an incline," advises Joe I.
Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds in the area close for winter. Mohican State Park maintains limited winter facilities: "One heated bathroom with a shower is open in the winter. Beautiful area to see in the winter & not as busy. You will mainly see people fishing for trout," according to Renée C.
Price considerations: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA offers varying price points. "We were in the area for medical visits in Cleveland. This spot was convenient and a great location to do a little sightseeing. Sites were gravel and level. We enjoyed full hookups," shares Sharon J., noting the KOA's practical advantages.
Cell service limitations: Mohican State Park Campground lacks connectivity in some areas. "No cell service with Verizon at this park," warns Andrea F., highlighting a practical consideration for those needing to stay connected.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: American Wilderness Campground offers children's recreation areas. "We had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," reports Jessica J. about family amenities.
Swimming options: Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA provides pool facilities with limited hours. "The pool was so nice it wasn't too crowded and the view over looking the 'lake' was so pretty," states Traci F., though she notes the pool hours could be longer.
Wildlife encounters: Prepare for local fauna at several campgrounds. "Every night we were visited by raccoons, they stole our trash on the first night but the other nights we kept everything out of their reach. There were fun little raccoon hand prints all over though," warns Traci F. about the nocturnal visitors at Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA.
Halloween camping: Countryside Campground hosts seasonal activities for children. "We stayed here in a 29'Tt, 3 kids, 2 dogs. Well kept smaller campground. Kids trick or treated and all campers were very friendly. The small putt putt course was still open for kids to play. Playground was a hit for our 8yr and under kids," shares Joe F.
Tips from RVers
Leveling challenges: Mohican State Park Campground requires preparation for uneven terrain. "On first impression we were not impressed with this park. First the water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full," explains Andrea F., highlighting infrastructure issues affecting RV setup.
Electric service specifications: Punderson State Park has limited electrical capacity. "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level," cautions Coy, noting potential challenges for larger RVs.
Full hookup availability: Evergreen Park RV Resort offers comprehensive RV connections. "Every site is full hookup," confirms Scott B., making this resort appealing for those seeking complete services.
Winter camping options: Few locations near Wadsworth offer year-round RV camping. "The camp is beautiful. Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf. Showerheads were too low for anyone over 5'7", and only a few sites were full hookup," notes Rebecca G. about Punderson State Park.
