    Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

    Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

    Adventure Bound Pleasant View

    Wagner Subscriber Campout

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

    Adventure Bound Pleasant View

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

    Van Buren State Park Campground

    Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

Guide to Archbold

Archbold, Ohio camping offers diverse options from rustic tent sites to full-hookup RV accommodations. The region sits approximately 850 feet above sea level with a continental climate that features warm, occasionally humid summers and cold winters. Most campgrounds remain open from April through October, with a few providing year-round access.

What to do

Hiking trails around lakes: The trails circling Harrison Lake offer walking and biking opportunities, though some sections could use better markings. "We rented a yurt as a local weekend escape. Our kids loved the yurt... The lake is nice for swimming and there are bike rentals which was fun as well," notes Sherrie W. at Harrison Lake State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds provide access to stocked lakes. "The lake is good for fishing, marginal for swimming. Great people at registration. Friendly and helpful host," explains Sue B. about her experience at Harrison Lake State Park.

Exploring historical sites: Visit the historical attractions near Sauder Village Campground, which connects to a living history destination. "There's so much to do at the village! What a wonderful place for history lovers and/or kids. In addition to the village, there is a splash pad, a pool (in the nearby inn), and a couple of hiking trails," says BluePitMom O.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain exceptionally clean bathrooms and showers. "The bathrooms were scrupulously clean and always available without a line," notes Hillary W. about Harrison Lake State Park Campground.

Private sites: Some campgrounds offer secluded spots with natural barriers. At Lake Hudson Recreation Area, "Each site is separated from the next by young forest, so it lends to a very private and secluded atmosphere," according to Meghan R.

Water recreation: Lakes provide swimming, kayaking, and fishing options. "The lake provides excellent opportunities for pets and owners to enjoy water activities together, with canoe, kayak, and paddleboard rentals available," says a visitor to Mary Jane Thurston State Park. "We watching the seagulls play and catch food while great blue herons skimmed that water and fisherman were out fly fishing. It was just a very peaceful setting," writes Andrea F.

What you should know

Site spacing varies significantly: The North and South campgrounds at Harrison Lake offer different experiences. "The North Campground has larger sites spaced a bit apart to afford you some privacy (or at least as much as you can expect at a state park campground)," notes Ari A.

Generators in non-electric sites: At some campgrounds, non-electric sites may have unexpected noise issues. "Some of the non-electric sites were used by RVs running generators all day and night, so that was a bummer for those of us hoping non-electric would mean more quiet," reports a visitor.

Limited water access: At Independence Dam State Park, "There is no direct access to the river in most areas, but there is an opening near the middle of the campsite which allows access, along with access for kayaks, which is pretty cool," explains Andy K.

Dog friendly campgrounds near Archbold: Many campgrounds welcome pets, with some offering special amenities. "We did not use it, but there is a dog beach as well," mentions a visitor to Harrison Lake, one of several pet-friendly campgrounds near Archbold where dogs can swim.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-focused amenities: Some campgrounds offer special features for children. At White Oak Campground, "Brought the kids and had a blast! We loved the hiking, bike trails, playground at Mallard lake area, and the kids liked exploring the sand dune area," shares Kevin K.

Consider yurt options: For families wanting comfort without a full RV, yurts provide a good alternative. "Our kids loved the yurt. It was nice with a little mini fridge and 4 double beds," reports Sherrie W. about Harrison Lake State Park.

Check noise levels: Some campgrounds have road noise that might disturb light sleepers. "There is a two-lane traffic road within 50-100 yards of the campsite, so the sound of vehicle traffic is quite frequent, especially since this road appears to be a favorite of motorcyclists," warns Andy K. about Independence Dam State Park.

Splash pads for summer heat: Some campgrounds include water features specifically for kids. "The fenced in splash pad was our main draw," explains Jocelyn C. about Sauder Village Campground, making it a popular dog friendly campground near Archbold for families with both children and pets.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Check what utilities are available at your site. "The RV sites are long, level, and have either 50 amp full hook-up or water and electric only," notes Nancy W. about Sauder Village Campground, making it one of the more accessible pet-friendly campgrounds in the Archbold area.

Site dimensions for large rigs: Some campgrounds have restrictions or challenges for bigger RVs. "We have a Xtra large 5th wheel and dualy truck. It can be tough to find comfortable campgrounds. My husband parked the 5th wheel fairly easily," shares 5Keplers about their experience at Mary Jane Thurston State Park.

Water access location: Not all campgrounds have water hookups at every site. "There is no water at the camp sites, but water is available," explains Shawn about Mary Jane Thurston State Park.

Electric outlet location: At some campgrounds, you may need extra equipment. "Extension or long electrical cords may be needed, as boxes are at back end and halfway to next site over," advises Cheryl M. about Lake Hudson Recreation Area.
