Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

    Bad experience

Stayed here on Saturday night of July 4th weekend. Arrived after hours without a reservation. No information on how to self register or which campsites were available even though some sites are first come first served. Found an open site, set up and went to bed. There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn’t mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party. At 12:30am we moved campsites because we couldn’t sleep. We saw sheriff patrolling the campground - don’t know why they didn’t quiet the offenders.

The campground is large with many sites so the probability of inconsiderate people is higher. I won’t be returning.

    Charles Mill Lake Park Campground

    mixed feelings 😕

Upon arrival friendly staff greeted us. Bath houses are clean and well maintained.  Our site was not clean and ready.  Picnic table looked like it was not cleaned since last season and the fire pit was full of rubbish.  Had campers behind us who played music so loud we couldn't hear each other talk.  I asked the gentleman to please turn it down and they did slightly. Another camper also asked them to turn it down and again it was very slight.  Well after midnight music continued.  No park ranger made rounds until Saturday morning and throughout the day.

The lake is gorgeous this weekend and we enjoyed riding bikes and walking the park.

May be back to try again.

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Busy, but not too bad :)

Stayed a night here near the end of June after a rainstorm. A few quick highlights:

    1. Because there are a ton of sites, you can expect one thing: variety. There are plenty of aluminum Airstream, Winnebago, fifth wheels, pull behind, and tents. You can expect to find a little bit of everything here.

    2. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, Mill Creek might not be for you. Most of the sites seem to be typically pretty packed. Generally, people respect quiet hours, but with sites so close to each other, noise is a factor.

    3. The surrounding area seems to be pretty spartan. There’s a grocery store about 10 minutes up the road, a bait shop about three minutes away, and a drive-through (with some light groceries and drinks) about two away. Nice enough folks in all three :) Super helpful and accommodating.

    4. Berlin lake seems to be the big draw. Plenty of boats, jet ski‘s, kayaks, and swimming opportunities. If that’s your thing, plan accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Overall, Mill Creek is a pretty solid site within driving distance of Akron / Canton. I’ll be back, with adjusted expectations.

Quick tip: My particular site was pretty muddy upon arrival. Granted, that was after a bit of rain. But it wouldn’t hurt to bring an extra pair of shoes ;-)

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Good location but expensive for what you get

Pros: closest camping to Cuyahoga National Park, safe, professional (labeled envelopes with information at check-in and wood delivery) Cons: bathrooms weren’t cleaned or restocked as frequently as necessary (overflowing trash cans, TP empty by 5 pm), shower curtains/showers had mildew, truly dirty bathroom floors, had to drive 1/4 mile to the one trash dumpster, unlevel sites

One more thing: there’s a significant raccoon and skunk problem along the section with water/electric back-in spots. We got to know our neighbors very well over two nights as we helped each other fend off multiple raids by entire families of raccoons and one very large, very bold skunk. We lost two camping chairs to the skunks because there was no way to fight them off once they moved into our shelter and, even without spraying, skunks tend to leave a scent behind on anything that’s fabric.

The price is okay in that it is the closest to the national park and the next closest campgrounds are the state park campgrounds (West Branch and Mosquito Lake), but the state park grounds are MUCH nicer and about $15 less per night. If you have the time to drive and can plan your trip months in advance to get reservations, West Branch is a better alternative.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    A ++

Always a great time at West Branch. The staff are very friendly and care a great deal about the quality of everyone's experience - they inspect and clean each site after the sites are vacated. The quiet hours are truly quiet, the bathrooms are very clean and fresh. Decided to rent a pontoon for the day - the boats were also very clean and well kept - they also have the option of an inner tube or jet skis if you want to rent those as well!

    Pleasant Hill Lake Park Campground

Nice Quiet Campground with a lot to Offer

We arrived Friday late afternoon and set up in the rain. Didn’t see much of the park on Friday,  but Saturday we went exploring and saw the marina, beach, horse camp area, and walked some of the bridle trails. They also have playgrounds that are open and some food trucks in case you don’t want to cook.

This is the second park we have stayed at that is part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District and so far I am impressed. Large landscape sites that are full hookup with large concrete pads. Each with its own picnic table and fire pit. They also have a boat dock for the campers to use.   The lightning bugs even put on a nightly show.

    Wonderfully updated!

This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking! We love camping here every chance we get! It is convenient to the turnpike and Cedar Point is just a few miles away!

Guide to Seville

Camping options surrounding Seville, Ohio offer varied overnight experiences in the gently rolling terrain of northeastern Ohio. Situated at approximately 1,050 feet elevation in the glaciated Allegheny Plateau region, the area features a humid continental climate with distinct seasons. Winter camping requires preparation for temperatures that regularly dip below freezing, while summer months typically see highs in the 80s with moderate humidity.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds provide stocked fishing ponds and lake access. At Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, campers report mixed fishing success. "I tried fishing in the fishing lake and came up empty. At first I thought this was a 'me' problem, but I did not witness anyone catch a fish. I saw one person catch a turtle," notes one visitor.

Hiking trails: The region offers wooded paths ranging from short nature walks to more extensive trail systems. Mohican State Park Campground features multiple trail options with varying terrain. "Beautiful campground with roomy camp sites... and many activities in the area. Hiking, canoeing, biking, etc.," reports a camper.

Water recreation: Several campgrounds offer designated swimming areas during summer months. West Branch State Park Campground provides lake access for boating and swimming. One visitor explains: "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site... Beach is right next door too! Great trails, clean facilities, no complaints."

What campers like

Spacious campsites: Many campgrounds in the Seville area feature larger-than-average sites with good separation. At Countryside Campground, "The 9 tent sites are very large and spacious. It is mostly an established RV Park. The community was very kind. Showers were clean and spacious."

Clean facilities: Consistent maintenance standards are noted across multiple camping areas. At Evergreen Park RV Resort, visitors appreciate the upkeep: "Beautiful, and I mean beautiful park... No mud puddles, not even at water hook up. Dog run is fabulous. Beautiful walking trail. Club house and pool are immaculate, including public restrooms and showers."

Varied accommodation options: From primitive sites to luxury options, the region offers flexibility for different preferences. One visitor to the Rivers Edge Camping Area writes: "The camp site is a short walk and was very nice. The porta potty was very big, clean and had hand sanitizer! In the morning there were many runners in the park but they stayed away from the camping area."

What you should know

Campsite levelness varies: Some locations feature challenging sloped sites requiring significant adjustment. A camper at West Branch State Park notes: "Our site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Reservation requirements: Peak season demand at glamping locations close to Seville, Ohio necessitates planning months ahead. West Branch campers advise: "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!"

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in the area operate with reduced services during winter. Mohican State Park offers limited winter camping where "One heated bathroom with a shower is open in the winter. Absolutely beautiful & great trails. There is nice several mile through trail that goes from the dam area following the river."

Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: Several campgrounds offer swimming pools with family-friendly features. At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, "The pool was so nice it wasn't too crowded and the view over looking the 'lake' was so pretty. My only complaint is they could have used more restrooms and showers but everyone was very courteous and was quick about it."

Wildlife encounters: Be prepared for local wildlife interactions, particularly after dark. One KOA camper reports: "Every night we were visited by raccoons, they stole our trash on the first night but the other nights we kept everything out of their reach. There were fun little raccoon hand prints all over though."

Budget considerations: Luxury glamping near Seville comes with corresponding price points. Campgrounds like Clay's Resort Jellystone Park can be "Way overpriced(like $540 FOR 4 NIGHTS) but we figured we'de try it." Consider value options for more affordable family stays.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Check specific site amenities when booking as services vary widely between locations. At Countryside Campground, "We spent a long weekend in a pull thru site. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition. The pull thru sites were a tad small but nice and long."

Water fill stations: Consider water tank management if camping at locations with limited hookups. West Branch State Park visitors note: "The water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full. This was okay for a short weekend but not good planning from who ever designed the park."

Site navigation: Arrival timing can affect ease of setup at busier locations. At Countryside Campground, campers advise: "Get there early or you'll have many vehicles and campers to watch for as you back in!"
