    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Amish Country Campsites

    Amish campsite

Very small campgrounds literally next to if not part of a corn field extremely cramped back if our camper was 2ft from the camper behind us and 15 ft from the campers left to right. When we left we had to knock on camper doors to ask folks to move their cars so we could pull out of out parking spot. The other campers were very nice lots of local folks they were fun to talk to. The camp site did have clean showers. Hot water. And. Clean restroom facilities. The dump station isn’t the best it is on a hill so dumping ones waste tanks completely could be a challenge The owners were polite but short The sites aren’t the best the electric is only 30 amp. And very dated they did have water hookups at each site. I didn’t take any pictures as there wasn’t anything to see at the campground other than campers packed in like sardines It is close to town and the shops. Everything closed at 5:00 including gas stations As they say any port in a storm. So as a last resort I guess it’s is okay. Just don’t plan to leave after 5:00 pm unless you have a full tank of gas. No ada camp sites. They are pet friendly

    Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake

Great spacious park with 2 lakes!

Kenisee Lake RV Resort Thousand Trails in Jefferson, Ohio is a another great Thousand Trails park! This park is very large and has a park-like setting with 2 lakes. There is fishing on the lakes and the campground has rowboats available to use. They have all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more! The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Kenisee Lake has 30 and 50 amp FHU back-in and pull-through sites. The only downside is the internet which is lacking in this area. We have really enjoyed our stay here and will be returning! 👍🏻😬

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Quiet park with nice amenities

3 Immaculate bath houses all with laundry facilities, all sites have electric (no f-ing generators) and many have have water and sewer hook ups. There is no WiFi and barely one bar of cell service; your best internet access is at the nice public library 7 miles away in Ravenna Sand beach is an easy walk from all camp sites and boat trailers can be parked on your camp site Boat launch has a big trailer parking lot, too. There are hiking, equestrian and mountain biking trails in the park and launching off paddle boards is ok at the boat launch or the nearby beach Friendly staff and camp hosts!

    Geneva State Park Campground

    Monster Campsites!

This park has huge campsites ! The pads are paved and they left a section of trees/woods behind each site to provide some privacy between neighbors. The bathrooms are very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The park is directly across the road from the paved bike trail which leads to the beach, marina, lodge and strip area. The trail is dog friendly but the beach is not. The campground is also pet friendly.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

Guide to Ravenna

Campgrounds near Ravenna, Ohio are primarily situated in the upper Appalachian foothills, with elevations ranging from 1,050 to 1,200 feet above sea level. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F, while spring and fall range from 50-70°F. Most local campgrounds lie within 30 minutes of the Cuyahoga Valley, providing convenient access to both natural areas and small towns.

What to do

Lake activities at Woodside Lake Park: The swimming pond features inflatables and boat rentals for summer recreation. "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," reports one camper who stays multiple times per year.

Hiking at Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park: Explore trails of various difficulty levels through unique rock formations just 15 miles from Ravenna. "There are numerous trails for different skill levels and tons of caves to explore. Also the view at the end is fantastic and is a great place to relax and read for the day," notes a visitor.

Fishing opportunities at Kool Lakes Family RV Park: The park's fishing lakes provide ample catch-and-release opportunities for families. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," shares one family camper.

What campers like

Clean facilities at Countryside Campground: Campers consistently mention the well-maintained grounds and facilities. "This is easily one of the most beautiful and well kept campgrounds we've stayed at. The bathrooms were clean, the showers were nice and the pool was well kept. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition."

Access to reservoir activities: A walking path connects Countryside Campground to Mogadore Reservoir. "There is a nice path through the woods down to the reservoir, where you can fish and kayak," notes one reviewer who found the site peaceful despite close proximity to neighbors.

Family-friendly atmosphere at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground: Located 40 minutes from Ravenna, this campground provides open spaces and activities for families. "Our family really enjoyed staying here, and our kids especially loved swimming and fishing in the lake. In the evening, we bought some firewood from the campground owners for our bonfire."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Some RV sites near Ravenna, Ohio require additional leveling preparation. At Woodside Lake Park, one camper observed, "They had apparently received a lot of rain because they had recently added large stones to define the RV site area. It was not ideal but seemed to work ok."

Water quality varies by campground: Be prepared for potential water quality issues at some locations. A visitor to Woodside Lake Park noted, "Site pads are rip rap 1" to 4" size rock with no fine rock coverings, or in some areas smoother rock and dirt but nowhere close to flat or level. Water drainage when its raining is deplorable."

Winter travel options limited: Most campgrounds close seasonally, with Brady's Leap Ohio Turnpike RV Lot being one of the few year-round options within 15 miles of Ravenna. At Evergreen Park RV Resort, 45 minutes from Ravenna, a winter camper reported, "We camped here the second weekend in December and had the park mostly to ourselves. There were only 3 other campers there."

Tips for camping with families

Plan for playground time: Multiple campgrounds feature playgrounds for younger children. "Countryside has all the amenities a family could want such as swimming pool, playground, mini-golf, and more," notes a satisfied visitor.

Check scheduled activities: Many campgrounds organize regular family-oriented events. At Woodside Lake Park, a visitor mentioned, "The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!"

Consider off-peak stays for quieter experience: Families seeking less crowded conditions should consider weekday or shoulder season visits. At Kenisee's Grand River Campground, a camper noted, "Great RV spot for a girls weekend. Entertainment provided during the summer time. Several lakes for swimming and fishing."

Tips from RVers

Plan for variable site sizes: RV sites near Ravenna vary significantly in size and hookup options. A visitor to Chestnut Ridge noted, "The park is largely seasonal but has several spots for drop-in RVs and tents. Big rig accessible. We reserved for 2 nights, stayed 3 and would return."

Verify water hookup locations: Hookup positioning can be important for planning your setup. "When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections," reported one RVer at Chestnut Ridge.

Check cellular connectivity for remote work: Signal strength varies across campgrounds in the area. At Thousand Trails Kenisee Lake, approximately 50 miles from Ravenna, a remote worker advised, "Kenisee Lake RV Campground is a wonderful place to work from remotely if you have an external antenna to cellular internet."
