    Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

    Pros:

    ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

    ·        Close to interstate for easy access

    ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

    ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

    ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

    Cons:

    ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

    ·        No trees for shade or privacy

    ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

    ·        Many campers are long-term

    ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

    Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA

    Small basic campground near Toledo

Our site was $59.95 a night.

We were in Site# 504. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level. We were charged $25 additional for my jeep since we were towing the trailer. We also were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. They sell wood for $6 a bundle.

There is free WiFi, although not strong. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily before noon.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool but it is currently closed due to maintenance (although it just looked closed- no signs of maintenance being done).

There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes, corn hole, giant jinga.

They have a basic general store. There are not scheduled activities for kids.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes. This is an RV park with tent camping and cabins to rent.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $2.50 to dry a load.

They have a small fenced in dog park.

There isn’t tons to doin the actual city of Perryville. But Toledo is a 20 minute drive.

    Travel Trailers

This park will accommodate any size travel trailer? Fifth wheel camper of any kind, the pull throughs are huge. The park is enormous with lots of fishing activities. Great water, the only downfall is there's no shade. Showers and restrooms are updated and always clean.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

    Ted Ranch Campground

No thrills, largely rustic, family oriented, friendly

This campground is pretty rustic with water and electricity at some sites, no showers or restrooms, a dump station for one at a time, Porta potties scattered around, small beach, small boat launch, mostly appears to be seasonal sites without sewer or rustic sites. Some but not a lot of shade, rolling fields being made into smaller sized sites. Dogs and dogs pens are allowed, and they do not appear to have parents who are attentive or keep them from barking. Friendly staff and family of four owners.

Crystal Rock Campground - Sandusky, OH

    Clean & cute

This campground was family friendly, dog friendly, and very clean. About 30 minutes from cedar point. Our only complaint and the reason we’re docking a star is because our site was right next to a giant generator that seems to run 24/7 and sites seemed a little tight. Otherwise we enjoyed this campground very much.

Spring camping brings temperatures from 45-65°F with occasional rain, while summer temperatures typically range from 70-85°F with higher humidity levels. What to do

Swimming and fishing opportunities: Big Sandy Campground features two lakes – one designated for swimming and a separate area for fishing. The property offers "[a] great little lake to swim [and] another area to fish," according to a camper who notes the campground also hosts "great fireworks and simple outdoor fun."

Hiking nearby trails: White Oak Campground provides direct access to the 15.5-mile Scout Trail loop that runs through Oak Openings. As one visitor mentions, "I was able to park my car here in the morning, hop on the trail (which runs right through the campground), and return later in the day." The same reviewer notes that Oak Openings offers "everything from pine tree forests to sand dunes."

Recreational activities: Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe, Michigan offers numerous recreational facilities. One camper reports, "This campground has everything! Go carts, playground, disc golf, pool, ext... Just a one night stay to visit A friend. If you have kids it is perfect!"

Family entertainment options: Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA provides seasonal activities, especially during holidays. A visitor shared, "We've been here a few times. Very close to our house just a nice little getaway. We enjoyed the Halloween weekends. We decorate big and enjoyed other decorations as well!"

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention facility cleanliness as a highlight at various parks. One visitor to Camp Lord Willing RV Park & Campground stated, "This is a very clean and beautiful campground. The employees are very friendly and helpful."

Friendly staff assistance: Staff helpfulness stands out in several reviews. A guest at Harbortown RV Resort shared, "My boyfriend & I were passing through the area and stopped here for 2 days without reservations. They were very accommodating and since we arrived after 7:30 pm, the office was closed but they insured us to pick a spot and we could get checked in the next morning."

Free firewood: White Oak Campground offers complimentary firewood, a rare perk. As one camper noted, "The sites are inexpensive and come with free firewood, the restroom is cleaned regularly and maintained well, and it is relatively peaceful overall." Another visitor confirmed, "The firewood is free, which is amazing."

What you should know

Site spacing varies widely: Space between campsites differs significantly between parks. At Cedarlane RV Resort, a visitor observed, "The sites are not huge and a little close together but very nice and well maintained."

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby transportation. At White Oak Campground, a camper reported, "It falls short of 5 stars as there was still a bit of road noise from the state highway a couple hundred yards away, as well as the large airplane taking off early in the morning at the nearby Toledo airport which woke us."

Late arrival protocols: Many parks accommodate after-hours check-ins. One visitor to Camp Lord Willing RV Park shared, "We couldn't find any available campsites at any other campgrounds in the area. We usually don't consider KOA because they are generally too expensive for what we need them for but this KOA has water/electric sites for $30."

Campground rules enforcement: Enforcement of rules varies by location. A camper at Harbortown RV Resort noted, "This is a nice campground. Relaxing and quiet. There are paths to ride your bike or just walk. The issue that I do have is the rules seem to try to scare. I am all about rules but too many rules that are insignificant and not enforced are rules for the Sake of rules."

Tips for camping with families

Splash pads and wading pools: Cedarlane RV Resort offers water features specifically designed for children. A camper reported, "They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids. There is a new Tiki Hut to get adult drinks. A gem mine. Horseshoes, basketball court and lots of kids activities."

Activities during holiday weekends: Holiday periods feature special events at many rv parks near Ottawa Hills. According to one Big Sandy Campground visitor, "They had great fireworks and simple outdoor fun. We've been back about 4-5 times and will be back in a week for our longest trip ever - 11 days."

Recreational opportunities beyond the campground: Some parks offer proximity to additional activities. As noted by a Harbortown RV Resort visitor, "Right next to camping is go karts, putt putt and arcade. We had a blast!"

Swimming conditions: Water quality in natural swimming areas can change throughout the season. A repeat visitor to Big Sandy Campground mentioned, "The kids said the lake was getting a little more fishy and less swim friendly but I wasn't in it this time to verify."

Tips from RVers

Electric hookup options: Most rv parks around Ottawa Hills offer 50-amp service. A visitor to Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot noted, "Free overnight stay allowed and for extra $20 you can get electricity (rows of hookups in the back of the parking lot). There was at least 10 other campers there. And no need to travel far to get back on the highway."

Site surface types: Surface materials impact comfort and cleanliness. A visitor to Harbortown RV Resort commented, "All concrete roads and pads. Basketball court, sand volleyball, playground, dog run, batting cages and go karts within walking distance."

Adapters for electric service: Some parks require adaptors for certain hookups. One camper at Military Park Camp Perry advised, "They only had 50w outlets, but will lend you a converter for $15.00, which is refundable upon leaving."

Cash requirements: Some campgrounds have limited payment options. A visitor to Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot warned, "You need cash to pay for the electric at a machine and then you get a ticket to display in the dash. The machine didn't take cards."
